I go camping with just me and 4 children aged 4,6,7.10 I found this tent is easy to put up by myself with a little help from my 10yr old. I bought it second hand from an older gentleman, who was reluctant to sell it. A fantastic size tent for a family enough room for everything and everyone if you was stuck indoors for long time found that there was loads of room to move around cook, eat and play in.Plenty of room for chairs, tables, cooking equipment ect A Brilliant family tent. I loved the fact you could open up the front porch area sit out and enjoy the evenings.
The sleeping areas are a good size you could get dressed in same room with out any issues and that you could unzip the sleeping compartments so you had one big room. And loved that you could remove the smaller sleeping area if not being used to make even more room for the children.
No issues with leaking seams or doorways. I do find it hard to pack away back in it holdall even now
Our first time using this tent in cornwall 4 years ago, the weather turned for the worse with gale force winds and serve heavy rain. This tent took a terrible battering against the elements, it stood its own ground kept us and our equipment very dry, We did how ever have couple of the poles snapped in few places over the sleeping quarters, which the tent did collapse slightly over the back,we anchored it all down with lots of guide ropes to stop any more damage, whilst waiting for the storm to pass. I have to tell you this though I found this one of the best tents I have every owned to withstand the weather we had for two days WOW it stood up very well could of been a lot worse damage.
Once storm passed I went to local camp shop on bought new poles to replace and used the spares which was in he repair kit provided and taped up any split poles we had, re erected the tent and carried on enjoying for the rest of the two weeks.
Still using this tent to this day 4 years on

I bought this tent last year and used it for the first time this year. I am very pleased with the amount of space inside that there is and although it was windy outside, we stayed fairly warm. We also had a short hail storm and the only water to get in the tent was where we left the door open!
I love this tent and would recommend it although it is no longer made, a few are about used and well worth getting.

Bought this tent second hand in 2009, first time used this month (June 10),love this tent, easy to erect, no problems encountered in all kinds of weather, very airy with the side doors/windows open when hot, snug when raining and battled the winds admirably. Totally hooked on camping again due to this tent, very spacious for our family of four, niece and dog ! used the spare pod as storage, clothes rail etc.

Setting up - My hubby and I are by no means experienced campers and this tent is a beast but we managed to get it up very easily, it is very logical and easy to manage with 2 people, even in a gale! Once up it feels sturdy and looks great, we had no end of comments from other campers and caravan owners so top marks on that front. The built in front extension is fab and with the addition of the extension for the side you really couldn't wish for more space.
Layout- Superb. Very flexible with all the three bedrooms removable. We had the kids room which is lovely and we used the smaller front bedroom for storage which suited us perfectly as we have twins toddlers with very nosey natures and curious fingers! I would say that if you like your space then it would sleep a family of four like us in extreme comfort but I can easily see it living up to it's 8 berth tag although personally I find more than 2 in a room a little cosy! I suppose it depend how close you all are!we found there was plenty of space inside for table and chairs when the weather turned nasty too.
Comfort and performance - We had 2 days of downpours and one more sat in a cloud and although a little condensation did form on the inside roof of the tent it never dripped or leaked in. It also holds its warmth well and with the addition of footprint and carpet I think you would be pushed to find a more comfortable tent. It held up to the wind excellently while other tents around were suffering. I couldnt be more pleased. Also there are so many windows, doors, vents etc that during the day it feels light and airy so it is fab for those hot summer days too.
All in all if you like space and comfort and a large tent that wont take forever to pitch then I would recommend the Sun Valley 100%. The only reason I haven't given it 10/10 is the down to the fact that the extension is a little tough to fit and that I feel you do with more tent pegs with it and the condensation issue.

We love this tent! It has seen us through 2 touring holidays in France and several short breaks in the UK. It has been pitched in an old quarry near Paris and at around 1500 feet in the Midi-Pyrenees. It has provided shelter from 40C sunshine and a weekend of torrential rain and high winds in Shropshire. It is easy to pitch and take down with 2 a breeze with 3. After all this heavy use we have on small hole in the ground sheet (2mm x 3mm - safely patched) and a pole starting to crack (sured up with duck tape). The cost of replacement pole kits seems high at about £20 for each size. However the tent doesn't owe us anything and should last us a couple more seasons. I estimate that it will equate to just a few pence per person per night by then. A bargain.

Below I made what I thought was a good informative comment about the earlier version of the Sun Valley 8. I was wrong (having now owned both versions). Our older tent (2006 model) was looking a little tired, and we were looking to replace it. We eventually decided to buy a “new” Sun Valley. Now I know that it is now discontinued but there are some retailers that still stock them. We bought ours from World Of Tents (online). And I have to say it is fantastic! Very roomy and light inside, due to the amount of windows. We are a family of 5 and it is perfect for us. We also bought the side extension and this also made a world of difference. We were really wanting an Arkansas or a Vermont, but could not afford. You can still buy one of these new tents for about £400. You will not but a better tent for this money!

We have just returned from eight nights away in our Sun Valley and are really pleased with it. After a couple of practice pitches in the privacy of our garden, we were pleased that it went up relatively quickly once we were at the campsite - despite strong winds.
We are a family of five, 2 adults and 3 children aged 8, 6 and 5, and found the Sun Valley ticked nearly all our boxes. It has a spacious living area with plenty of windows for wet days, there is sufficient bedroom space for us and our clothes, and a front canopy to protect us from some of the elements. The option of removing the 3rd bedroom particularly appealed as it would give so much more space if we were stuck indoors for any length of time. The only thing missing is the zip up porch which would provide an area for storing wet clothes & boots, but we were lucky enough not to need it on this holiday.
It withstood strong winds and heavy rain without any damage, although it wasn't the extreme weather other people have seen this summer!
The real test came when we walked around a tent show and didn't see one single tent which made us regret buying the Sun Valley.

We bought our model in 2006 for a 6 month tour of southern Europe. The tent was fantastic, great space for us & our 3 kids. It has leaked a bit this year along one of the side door seams and we have had a few problems with the fibreglass poles breaking and splitting, partly because of our own learning curve and also trial and error in putting the thing up. Have just come back from France and it stood up very well to some very strong gusts of wind.
We would recommend the newer version though as a vertical door seems like a better design to me. It is a huge shame that outwell have no comparable design currently on the market as we will have to change the tent but like the space and sleeping arrangements that the sun valley 8 offers.

This is a fantastic tent for our family of 5. Simple enough to pitch and take down as others have said. We managed to pitch it just fine on our first ever camping trip back in May with 3 children under 5 to juggle too. We decided not to use the third sleeping pod and once we had removed it completely you are left with an enormous living space which will be great if it rains next time we are away. I particularly love the porch area of this tent as it provided a wonderful sheltered area to cook, put the picnic table and generally sit and people watch under.
My only gripe about this tent was that the back of the fly sheet behind the sleeping pods seemed to be quite saggy and no amount of re-positioning and re-pegging seemed to solve this. It just ment that the space inside the pods was slightly reduced unless you wanted to be touching the fly sheet and end up wet by morning! think this may be a design fault and unfortunately as the tent has now been discontinued there's little chance of a replacement and as we are otherwise very happy with the tent we have decided just to live with it.
This is why I have only given 9 stars, otherwise the tent would have been worthy of 10 as everything else about it is fabulous. As the Sun Valley 8 is no longer available, I would advise anyone who likes the design to look at the Arkansas 7 as this is very similar to the Sun Valley. All in all a great tent with the advantage of light fibre glass poles yet still robust against the elements, a great layout and really easy to put up and down. Perfect choice if you have more than 2 kids and need something simple, functional and roomy.

The earlier version is the better one. If you are looking to buy a tent (although now discontinued) and you are a novice with a family. Buy one of these. Large, easy to put up and it's an Outwell. The best there is.
