Just returned from our second 'French Adventure' with this tent.Love it, we even had a matching (well almost)windbreak (Outwell in Mocha). I'm not one for creating an anti social barrier, but we found that if we pitch the base seconds and the 4.1 together, then take the base down in preparation for an earlier departure, we leave ourselves with very little privacy.

We have just come back from the Auvergne where is was mega hot, and we really needed a tarp to shelter us from the heat if no trees were available for shade.So I've just been on-line and bought the Vango tarp in black.

Qeuchua pop up bases really are ideal for touring, in fact we saw no frame style tents on any of our short stay pitches.All were small to average. I think the large family tents are perfect if you are somewhere for a full week or more. My OH even admits they really are ideal for us.

We bought this tent because we wanted a tent that would go up quickly for weekends while also providing us (couple in our 20s) with a reasonable amount of space when we go away for a week. We have been very pleased with it.

The staff in Decathlon showed us how to pitch the tent and how to fold it up. It really is easy once you've got the nack, but you do need to know what you're doing! It is easy to pitch and take down by yourself, provided it is not too windy, as then it can try to take off.

The living space is a good size - we can get the table, chairs, cooker stand and equipment box in overnight, although if you're sitting in there in the evening it's a bit of a squeeze. The bedroom pod is a comfortable size for a double airbed with storage at each side. The airbed goes in to the bedroom end on or side on. There is standing height in the living space but not in the bedroom.

The bedroom is fully sealed (with a mesh at the top of the door for ventilation). The living space has a bathtub groundsheet, which works well but is not insect proof.

The small canopies over the door and windows are good, as they stop you getting too much water into the tent when you open the door and they do provide you with a bit of shelter to stand under if you're cooking in the rain.

The only issue we have with the tent is that if you have to bring it home wet and dry it at home, you need to pop it up to dry it. This means that you need to think about where to dry it before you buy it. The gulleys between the poles can hold water, so check that they're dry before packing it away.

Overall we really like this tent and would consider replacing it with another pop up when the time comes, or possibly buying a base seconds if we need more space before then. It's seems to have plenty of life left in it for now.

I Love my Quechua Tents. So easy to pitch and fold away. And I'm getting better at it each time. I give them 9 out of 10 simply because although they are wonderful, they can let in a certain amount of drafts and bugs from the floor/skirting area and a breeze from the vents which are permanently open above. I now have a quiet fan heater that has kept it all warm enough, and when it has got very cold and/or drafty in the night I close the doors where the two tents join. In heavyish winds in September 2011 in Derbyshire the tent was flapped around a lot and was noisy, but I was amazed to find the next morning that my 'standard' tent pegs that came with the tents all stayed in place and all I had to show from the blast was a few slightly slackened Guy Ropes.

The best thing about the Base XL attached is the 3 Big doors at the front that give a lovely panoramic view and make it light and open. And of course all the extra room you get (as it can seat 8-10 people), and you don't have to use the ground sheet if you don't want to.

I found that I needed a couple of bedside type Lamps with at least 40w bulbs to keep the tent bright and chirpy in the evenings and enable you to find anything you were looking for. The vents at the top of the XL are large and breezy at times and I wish I could zip them up to an extent sometimes.

Almost as soon as I got my 4.1 I pretty much knew I wanted the Base XL to go on the front of it, and I am sooooo Glad I did. Even though there is a gap where the two tents meet and you can see some daylight through there. There are long triangle bits they provide the cover the gaps, but I don't think were made for joining different size tents together. You get drafts sometimes, but no rain came in because of the doorway canopy of the XL sitting nicely on top of the canopy of the 4.1.

I love the color too as I read someone else on here rates as well. I wish it had some windows that were 'see through' plastic instead of breezy porous fly sheet type material, like a T Bag, then I could unzip and let the light in without the wind as well. I guess when the weather is sunny and Hot, I'll be Very Thankful for all the light and air that I have in there. It is extremely light and airy and spacious!

All in all a Glorious tent setup that I'm very proud and pleased to own and will hopefully use a lot from here on.

We have recently returned from a fantastic 3 weeks in France. The first few nights we pitched the 4.1, at our main destination we pitched the 4.1 with the base seconds full (which has been re-introduced).

My only criticism is that design could be improved vastly with some tweaks:

1. Make another door/entrance, this enables you to adapt according to wind direction or neighbours

2. Deepen the windows - if you are seated in the living space you cannot see the view

3. The ventilation in the roof space is not as good as the base seconds full.

We loved the combination of the two tents it gave us a huge space and was put to the test as the temperature average from 23rd - 29th August was 37 degrees. The cool colour combination is both easy on the eye and practical when the temperature soars.

The base seconds full became the kitchen/bike garage.

My husband was against the idea of these two tents initially, he likes the Outwell Hartford XL, but he has waxed lyrical about the 4.1

I wonder if Quechua/ Decathlon will manufacture a carpet, we are using a travel rug with a waterproof backing at the moment, this is normally used underneath the airbed for comfort and to prevent punctures.Guess what, the airbed punctured on the last night!

Well we have just returned from 2 wonderful weeks under canvas, so the 4.1 has been truly tested:

We pitched the 4.1 with the Seconds Base Full. Perfect combination. But one or two points which would make it a 10/10.

The sides need to be made into optional doors.

The windows need to be deeper to allow visibility when sat down inside.

Their ought to be ventilation in the roof section as their is in the Seconds Base.

The 'blue velcro tags' are very poor, when they got wet in the storm they would not adhere making the decamp frustrating.

Apart from that I LOVE THIS TENT, we have a Hartford XL at home gathering dust because we like these Decathlon tents so much.

There were 8 4.1's on the site in Lacanau (Le Tedey), everyone who commented said they loved the idea of the two pitched together.

I have a feeling that the 4.1 has been discontinued so that they can make some refinements to the design.Lets hope they keep the cream/ taupe colour combination as this was so cool on those days when the temperature soared above 37 ! PS didn't see any of the bright green or grey models this year, they were so loud.

The darlings at Decathlon have discontinued this model.If its anything like the scenario with the Seconds Base Full, they 'll re introduce it.

Thursday we head off to France for our 2.5 week trip, the 4.1 will be put to the test. We've changed the guy ropes to the Vango bright orange ones, the beige ones will soon get grubby and are less easy for me to trip over!.

The plan is to use the 4.1 on the Friday night (Chablis), then pitch the base seconds full next to it to use as a utility tent/ MTB garage when we reach a place where we intend to stay for a few days.

The beauty of these tents is that they take a very short time to pitch which means touring is a pleasure. It really amazes me that noone else has come up with a similar design, unless of course it is patented.

The French love to see Brits using their kit too, even more tha fact that we have a French car.

Can't wait !

Can't believe that Decathlon are discontinuing this model, so glad I got one. I reckon there's a bargain to be had. Interesting that the 'original' base seconds full has been revived. Love this tent.

1st time out in 15years and a very comfy week it was.

A Surprising tent, surprised to find it easy to put up and take down

Surprised to find there is plenty of room (for 2) in the sleeping area, double bed and clothes at the sides

Surprised to see there is ample area for 2 large chairs and large dog in the living area.

Only niggle is that the fly screen/window could have been with being lower down so that we could have looked out of them when sat in the chair.

Went to Clumber Park today for a test run before we go away for a week at the end of May.

Put up and lightly pegged in 10 mins.

Packed away in less than 7 mins.

Not bad for a first time pitch and take down, may get it to less when familiar with it.

Cannot wait to stay in it, will repost when we have. :)

I would like to thank Bobcat10. On the basis of your reviews on the Base 4.1 I drove the 150 miles to Decathlon and bought it.

I pitched it this afternoon just in my garden and I'm totally chuffed with it, I can wait to do my first camp of the season in this tent. I'm already looking into getting a base full (I think) just so I can have a bit more space.

But all in all an awesome tent and I've only had it pitched the once so far.

Designed for 4 people looking for a FAMILY HIKING TENT with a large room that can be pitched very quickly.

There is enough space (5.7 sq m) for 4 or even 6 people to sit comfortably around a table. The entrance door is protected by a large peak that increases the living space. The large side mosquito net windows, protected by peaks, can be left open even when it's raining. The "rising" groundsheet protects the living area from trickling water.

Pitched in 2 minutes. Folds away in under 5 minutes once you get the hang of it.
