When we bought this tent our family of 3 boys was too small to help in pitching (other than whacking each other with mallets). Now they are all strapping teenagers & the novelty of sleeping 5 in a row has worn off. For a long weekend with dry weather the tent is plenty big enough. Longer duration and/or typical British weather, the day compartment becomes cramped. It is relatively easy to pitch and take down & it will go back easily into the roomy travel bag it came in. Ten years on I still love the lightness the windows provide & the sleeping compartment never becomes stuffy or smelly (great ventilation). If I had to replace I would still choose a Vango though maybe a sleeps 1 - at my age I really shouldn't sleep with 4 men each night.

I was lucky enough to buy my tent from a charity shop (salvation army) in Tranent for a great price. It was unused and still in its original box from the shop, on first impressions it's a fantastic tent with loads of sleeping and living space, well built and superb quality that Vango are renowned for. I found it a little awkward to erect first time but soon mastered it, and on our first trip away we could not have wished for better weather and the tent stood proud in the countryside. I have no plans for replacing this tent at all! I would recommend this tent to families or couples! Can't rate it highly enough and cant wait for our next trip which is already in the planning!

We purchased this year a stock aspen 500 model.

We viewed most of the vango range at various camping stores.

And the aspen filled our requested for user friendly and layout of the tent with three separate bedroom layout with excellent living room space and porch area.

We have young family and it suited all our needs.

It has a complex design and setup but visit the you tube site for the video on the aspen 500 how to put up the tent and take it back down again.

Everything is colour coded for all the frame tubing and entry points.

Being a tent in the vango range it is something you can recommend to anyone well build and very good quality.

Bought this tent second hand from our friends.

Have only used it the once so far but was very impressed. Not the quickest to pitch, or take down but we managed fine the two of us. Would probably do it slightly different the next time from reading on here.

The pole bag is also very heavy but at least it seems sturdy!

Lots of room for the four of us, could fit more in if needed. The kids were pleased to have separate rooms, and this meant they didn't wake each other up, but there is a useful zip between the two outside room and the middle double one so we could check on them easily - could also open out into one big bedroom if you needed.

We were lucky with fab weather but there was lots more living space inside than I expected, should we have needed to hide from rain - the headroom is also good, you can stand up everywhere.

Overall - great!

I bought this tent from my cousin for £90. It is the first tent I have owned and camped in. We have now been away in it 4 times. We have a family of 4 and 2 dogs. The tent itself weighs a tonne and it really heave to move about. We manage with 2 of us to pitch it up in half hour and once erected this is a proper home from home. Soewn in ground sheets so my little dog cant get out underneath. All doors have double zipps so really felt secure and one all zipped up at night we were all snug as a bug.

There can be 3 bedrooms to suit 4 people, but with camping there are no rules as to how many you can get in I suppose. We have one room as our storage, and join two rooms together with 2 double beds for 4 of us and the dogs. We have been in extreme weathers and this tent has withstood the lot. We keep the pourch area as a kitchen and there is ample space for all out kitchen bits and bobs.

Only fault I can say with this tent is that the porch isn't a sewn in ground sheet, so when we going to get owt from kitchen area, we have to zip outselves in so the dogs dont get out. I find this tent a fantastic tent and am looking forward to many more trips out with this one.

It is a great tent - there are only 2 of us, but we do have a lot of things to put in it! It's very spacious, and the sewn in groundsheet is the icing on the cake. It's very well made, a little fiddly to put up, but very easy to back down again, and unlike most tents we have seen has a more than ample bag to put it back into - with this tent we don't have to tie it up with endless bungee cords to fit it back in the bag, we have had to in the past with others!

This is my second Aspen500 since the first one was replaced under Vangos lifetime guarantee. The first tent unfortunately began to leak after 4/5 weeks usage.

Having just spent a very wet week on Dartmoor the second tent is now also leaking in two places, through the floor where the seams are not taped and above the bedroom area.

Apart from the leaks we are pleased with this tent, altough as indicated in other reviews it is heavy (the poles are over 20KGs) and can be awkward to put up in high winds. There is plenty of room inside for a family of 4.

I have been camping a few times with my mates but never with the family. I looked around for a family tent and came across the vango aspen 500, read all the reviews then decided this one will do. Went to outdoor world they didn't have one, so went on eBay and got one £110 what a bargain! Loads of tent for a little price. Put it up, rained for 2 weeks, unable to take it down. Was bone dry inside when checked. Went camping last week, well impressed with the tent. The wife liked it so much we are going again next weekend

A bit of a palace. Very large and heavy to store and move but excellent to live in; we usually go away for 1 week in May and 2 weeks in July, and any other excuse we can find. We bought our first in 2005 for £345, we were keen to replace it before it was unavailable (as discontinued) and found it for £199 in May 2009 (manufactured 2007). We were originally disappointed with the different porch on the new tent but once we'd pitched it on a level site it worked perfectly. The bucket porch groundsheet tends to collect rainwater-because we leave the front wide open to enjoy the view!

We now erect it as a tunnel tent (peg down at the back first and work forwards) and that works much better. It still takes the 2 of us about an hour even after erecting this style of tent approximately 14 times.

If the wind is in the wrong direction the large bedroom windows allow the wind in but the current version has curtains that cut down the draught a bit.

Our family borrowed it and found it worked well with little children. The separate zipped bedroom kept them feeling safe and with the zips up high they couldn't easily escape.

Buy this tent!

Someone who camps has designed this tent, sown in ground sheet, separate porch area for muddy shoes, area for cooking big bedroom in the middle and built in tent tidy, also a little zip for the electric hook up to come in. I cannot fault this tent, easy to erect if use common sense, fantastic size, all we need, there are 2 of us. I cannot fault this tent, its well made, but I would recommend you buy the foot print.

It also stood up to a lot of wind and rain for 10 nights in Norfolk in summer 08!
