We bought our Maritsa 500 in 2011, but I wanted to wait until we had used it a few times before I left a review, just to be sure I didn't miss anything!
We did a lot of research and looked at hundreds of tents before we made our purchase. We both liked the Maritsa 500 from day one - we loved the idea of a separate porch as we thought it would be a massive bonus when the weather was bad - and as we knew initially we would be camping in this country, that was a dead cert!
We have now used the tent for a few weekends away and two longer holidays and we absolutely love it :-) So pleased with our choice, it really is a fantastic tent.
We use the porch for our kitchen stand, cooker etc. But this still leaves us plenty of room in there. The main attraction for me with the porch was having an area to take off wet shoes and coats, and dry off a wet dog, before going into the living area. I would definitely not be without one now, and that will be a requirement for any future tent we may buy.
The first time we put the tent up we followed Vango's pitching video - it took ages and was hard work! I then came on here for some advice, came across the Gary Cross pitching method and that was it - problem solved. It takes us about an hour to get the tent up, pegged and guyed, inner tents in, carpet down and ready to go! I then spend about half an hour turning it into home sweet home :-)
There are only 2 of us, plus our dog, so we unzip the partition between one of the double sleeping pods and the single, and have a lovely big master bedroom which comfortably accommodates our triple height airbed. We then use the other bedroom for storage. We have also had our teenage niece with us on a couple of occasions, so she uses the other double pod then and her clothes etc. Go in there with her - our bag goes on our bed during the day and in the main living area at night.
There are loads of storage pockets which are great for keys, wallets, phone chargers etc. We have never used the wardrobe pole so I can't comment on that.
The main living area is a good size, plenty of windows so even on days when we have been confined to the tent due to the weather, it feels light and airy. We make sure we have all the vents open and have never really suffered with condensation apart from May bank holiday this year when it got down to -4 degrees centigrade at night, so when we put the heater on in the morning we got a few drips.
The tent feels lovely and sturdy when it's windy. On our last holiday we endured a 5 hour torrential downpour one night - we had one leak, in the porch through one of the EHU entry points - and that was it! I was amazed because the rain was absolutely horrendous, so I really expected to find a few leaks but we were absolutely over the moon at how well the tent stood up to the weather.
I think the only negative thing that we have found is the sloping front door, which allows water in when it is opened in the rain - but to be fair, I am being extremely picky and this is a problem in any tent with a sloping front door. At least in the Maritsa, the water is coming in to the porch so you can just mop it up - it isn't going on your carpet or into your main living area.
All in all, we love our tent and would not hesitate to recommend it :-)

We have used this tent in this country and abroad. There are three of us (one little one!) so we unzip the central sleeping area for all three of us and use the other side for our clothes.
We found it great for the 'little' age group as we could use the bit directly outside the sleeping area as her play area when it was wet. We could also contain her if needed! Worked great. And its also nice to have her in with us at night at the moment whilst she is young, but that we can adapt for her to have her own space later on.
We have the awning too which we have found really useful when camping and it rains for cooking etc.
We have just used the tent in really extreme rain and storms with high winds. Generally the tent stood up to the weather, but we did get a little water creeping in at the back, which I think was due to the back poles rubbing on the canvas in the wind. As I said, it was really extreme weather though and this has not happened at other times when it has rained.
Overall we love this tent and would not hesitate to recommend it.

We bought this as our first family tent and its been great.
We did have a couple of leaks on our first tent but when we took it to Go-Outdoors they exchanged it for us hassle free. We have just spent 5 nights camping at Paignton and it was subjected to the typical bank holiday weather and came through great.
There are 4 of us and we find it to have plenty of space and its well worth buying the Vango fitted carpet as it makes it more homely. Between my wife and I we can have it pitched in 45 mins, one tip is to pitch the rear of the tent first then move towards the front pegging the guys out as you go along the hold the poles up.
One down side would be the front door way, as the way it opens doe's let in some rain, but I think the extension/canopy would eliminate this problem.
Overall were very happy with it.

We brought & used this tent a couple of times last year. We had some initial problems with leaks & returned the tent to Casey's camping in Otley and were given a replacement. Great service from Casey's!
We love the tent once up & it has ample room for us, a family of four and we've taken a friend of the children away too, with space to spare. However, we really struggle to get the tent up. Do any campers have any tips? My main issue is the strength required to lift the steel poles into place. Maybe I just need a bit of weight training!
Otherwise it's a great tent, particularly the large porch where you can cook if it's pouring. The living area is spacious and very cosy.

Just returned from a weekend at Loch Lomond with the family after we had just bought this tent, and have to say it was fantastic.
It was big enough for us and the separate area at the front was great as our kitchen and dining area. Main living area was very spacious fro the whole family to sit at night.
The bedrooms are a bit tight with the wardrobe in the middle, but still cozy.
I do think that the Vango Maritsa 500 could be doing with a little better quality in its design though for instance the guy rope Velcro tie tidies are very short and different lengths on everyone, some of the clips that go on the poles are facing different ways.
Also we found the time to erect the tent was reasonable although when connecting the poles to the base of the tent it seems very tight almost as if it will tear! But it didn't.
The rating we gave is on our experience and we found the tent fantastic! And the points above are things we could live with but thought visitors to the site should be made aware of these.

A super spacious family tent bought for us and our 3 year old. The large bedroom exactly fits our double airbed and there is loads of room in the smaller room for his child's airbed. We used the 'closet' as a store for all our suitcase/sponge bag/shoes etc. But it could double as another small child's bedroom. We love the fact that there is a separate cooking area and place to sit on wet evenings away from the bedrooms. We can pitch it between the two of us in about 30 mins BUT we didn't follow the manufacturers instructions. Would definitely recommend the footprint. The tent withstood a sustained battering of Northumberland wind and rain with only a few small leaks (in same places as other have said). We're really pleased with it.

The tent is amazing, lots of room and easy to pitch. But there are some issues. The first is the front main door doesn't shut properly and water gets in. Also every electric hook up zips leak which is not good when you have power going threw the cables. From looking at other reviews, there are many others who have the same issues as me.

This tent is fresh out the box and this is how it arrived !

Great tent great price £289.99 for 2011 model
Still not sure if the Amazon 600 is a better tent in space etc but we shall see.
Well made and easy to put up and very cosy, they make canopy for it which would make it almost 9 meters long !
Can not fault this tent in anyway at all

Lovely tent which is easy to erect with 2 people. We have had problems parting the steel roof poles which are curved and have a d-section profile which eliminates a straight pull to separate them. The description as 5-berth is honest-you can sleep 5 people side by side (in 2 rooms) but there is no space in bedrooms for any other kit.We use the tent for 2 people and live in absolute luxury. This years spec has a 4000h.H-which we have tested on numerous trips to the lake district. No problems with leaks here-however- the front door lets water flood in past the zip if you happen to be facing into the wind. The storm-flap which covers the full length of the zip simply doesn't have enough velcro points to fasten it to the tent-consequently any strong wind will hold it open and actually channel water onto the zip.Niggles apart-I love the tent and chose it over a lot of others in the same price-range.
