I'd agree with most of the good and bad points mentioned by other reviewers, but would add that when I first started using this tent about three years ago I was disappointed to find there was always heavy condensation on the inside of the 'porch' section, both fabric and vinyl, whatever the weather and whatever the use being made. I wrote to Vango to complain and query this, and got a snooty reply back from the company lecturing me not to cook inside and to leave all the doors and vents open all the time until going to bed (as if you could when you go off site or it's raining!) I suspect it's the fabric at fault, as after only moderate use some small holes and mildew have started to appear in it, which never did in the old, open-floored Vango tent I used to have.

One of the best tents I have ever owned not just because of its durability in harsh weather conditions and ease of erecting for a solo camper the orchy 400 is a godsend after a hard day on the hill.I would recommend this tent to anybody that fancies an upgrade from a smaller tent to a tent with all the space one needs for cooking chilling etc and at a reasonable price it has already paid for itself ten fold over the past year. Happy Camping.

We bought this tent in 2010 and have used it quite a few times and found it to be an excellent all round tent.In may we visited the lakes and had some of the worst weather we have ever camped in.This tent took it all in it,s stride high winds and torrential rain.We remained dry all weekend inside this tent.Having owned several tents in the past this one we rate very highly and plan to keep until it drops to bits.

Just returned from a week long stay in Devon, our first outing in our brand new Orchy 400. We have previously used a small 2 man tent but decided to upgrade to something a bit bigger and more practical - the Orchy certainly didn't disappoint.
Plenty of room inside for chairs and a table, with windows to the side and the roof to give plenty of light. We really liked the vent door as it meant we could ventilate the tent without letting the local wildlife in at the same time! We also used the tent carpet and groundsheet - would highly recommend the carpet.
The great British weather meant that we had 12 hours of heavy rain to contend with but it coped well - only a few small seeps from some of the seams, however with that level of rain I think it did quite well. Only annoyance was that when you opened the door the water would drip in however I believe that this has been improved on the 2011 version.
Easy and quick to put up, although the colour coding on the poles is quite subtle so we went wrong at first - needs some bright foolproof colours! We also had a lot of comments from people on site as it's a good looking tent, and is great value as well.
Highly recommended - go and buy one now!

Very impressed with this tent. I've been used to 2 or 3 man tents but decided that we needed a bit of living space if the the weather turns bad.
Erecting took about 20 mins but thats on my own.
Plenty of space to cook or for 2 to sit in with a table.
I would have preferred an extra 4 inches height as I cant quite stand up in it. But I am 6f 2in so this probably isn't a problem for most.
Yet to test it in really bad weather but I did a lot of research before buying and I don't expect any issues. Seems like a very well made tent and I am happy with my purchase

Took the tent for its 1st outing to the east coast knowing full well the weather forecast for Sunday was not good. As expected, the torrential rain came, followed with gale force winds. I said goodbye to the Orchy as we headed off to take refuge in a local pub.
A few hours later we returned to site to find the tent still upright and dry inside, I couldn't believe it.
Needless to say I am so so impressed with this tent that I give it full marks. Apart from its outstanding performance in appalling weather, its spacious inside and I love all the windows.
This tent is going to get a lot of use, its fab.

An excellent tent for a couple. I've used this several times now since I bought it last year and have no complaints.
Its a four berth but as with all tents I don't really know where the fourth person would sleep! We use ours with a double air bed in and a dog and clothing bags and that fills up the sleeping area. But thats not a criticism as I think all tents should be bought bigger than the number of people using them.
The mesh netting at the side allows great air flow and the inbuilt ground sheet (the first time I have ever had one) is an excellent feature that keeps everything dry nicely. I love the 'curtains' feature over the sky lights and windows. This has made my other bigger tent seem extremely dark in comparison and it's lovely to open them at night and admire the stars.
Practicality putting up wise, I managed to do it myself on one occasion (it took a bit of running around from one side to the other but it is possible) and with two people its an absolute doddle. It's also fairly light for its size and doesn't take up too much space in the car.
Would I recommend it, definitely. Its been one of the best tents that I have purchased so far. And has stood up well to a dog getting used to the concept of camping and not just forcing your way through gaps under the door! Ten out of ten I say!

Bought it because it has a built in floor. We spent a month camping, 2 adults, plenty of room for beds and clothes. We had 36 hours of solid rain, leaving the tent on a small island surrounded with water but with stood the weather with just a couple of leaks on the front windows and were the inner tent joins the main outer at the top. Apart from the front door on a slope we couldnt fault it, minus 1 point. We have re-sealed all the seems and reproofed the tent see if it still copes. Next year camping with a large dog in tow, see if works then as well.

I bought this tent last Sept with Footprint thrown in but have only just used it in anger. Spent two nights on a farm under the Black Mountains Found it easy to erect single handed took about 20 mins then another 20 mins pegging out the guy ropes. It stood up well to some heavy rain in the night, no leaks. As mentioned before the sloping front door needs to be opened with care when raining. Got over this by erecting a Tarp over the front.
Ventilation appears to be good but could have done with mesh on the front door as it has on the side door.
This tent is ideal for a couple and plus child. For a single camper it's the Ritz.
In all seems to be a good tent apart from the front door when raining.

We bought this tent prior to a week long camping trip on the west coast of Scotland.
It is a great tent, quite high in the living area (my husband is 6 foot and he could stand up) although the headroom is reduced in the sleeping area. It is totally enclosed so kept us warm, dry and cosy throughout the holiday. The mesh door mean we could still have fresh air but without the midges. The skylights, side and front windows are a nice touch.
I love this tent but it can be difficult to pitch when soaking wet & in high winds. This is where I have marked it down, we rarely stay on one site and it is just a bit more effort to pitch and drop quickly.
We'd added a Beta 450 to our collection and I get the impression from my husband that the Beta will be coming out far more often than the Orchy - purely because of the height (and stability)and speed of pitching.
