Really like this tent. Lots of room for the 4 of us and the SIG keeps the weather out. There is also lots of height even at the side so that all the floorspace is 'useable'. Did once have a leak when water pooled above the clear plastic windows in the roof but we just stopped the covers from touching the roof and that cured the problem. Only other problem was that the small (too small really) sun canopy ripped when we left it unattended in a genuine force 8 gale, although to be honest I was surprised the tent was still there when we got back, it was THAT windy. It is heavy, bulky and does take two people to put up but despite that, and aforementioned problems, still think it's a brilliant tent and if given the choice would buy it again.

I think the manufacturers description of 'commanding presence on the campsite ' is a fair description. The tent is enormous, the only downside is the weight of the tent poles, but as mentioned in other reviews it can withstand a lot of weather. Several hols in it and as yet it has not let the family down. One other downside it does not have mesh doors on any of the entrances, which in hot weather would be appreciated. The moveable front wall is a very good idea as you can adapt the living accommodation according to the weather . Overall a good tent.

Weighs a tonne and takes 2 people to pitch, although at a real pinch it could be done single-handed. We've used it about half a dozen times and get better at pitching every time. In common with any tent this size you do need a fairly level and flat pitch to get it 'straight'. It does take up a lot of space when packed too - almost half the boot of my large estate car!
The upside to the weight is that it feels like it could withstand a hurricane. In a very heavy downpour this weekend it let in a very minor amount of water as the flysheet had held a pool of water - I adjusted the guy tensions and had no further problem.
I agree with Beth9 about the window flaps - they look nice but have no obvious function except to gather a puddle which runs down your arm when you tip it out! Not a problem, but they don't serve any purpose.
I think Vango missed a trick by not offering / including a larger front canopy - it feels slightly cramped in comparison with the rest of the tent and it would be good to have a larger option when space permits.
Overall, if you've got a larger family or just like lots of space then it's a great tent.

Excellent tent, just returned from a weekend away with it (haven't used it since May 2009, went to the dark side and bought a caravan) and it was still easy to put up. Yes its heavy and it takes 2 if not 3 in a wind to put it up, but its well worth it, has a sewn in groundsheet and no rain coming in, being heavier it will stand up to most weathers. Loads of space, again like lots of people we use one pod for storage.
I just hope the Vango Amazon which has replaced the Vail is as good.

Very big and heavy, so not the easiest to pack in the roof box. That said it is a steel poled 7 man tent which stands up to any weather and conditions and, in our case 5 children between 4 and 14 years.
Plenty of space for all our family gear and the living space makes it easy to occupy on rainy days. No walking around getting back ache or claustrophobia.
My one and only criticism would be the lack of a decent sized sun canopy. A larger one would make it so much easier for 7 people to take their wellies off outside without a struggle.
We just double over a large tarp on the ground and this really helps the longevity of the ground sheet.

Had this now for about 18 months and been used several times. As mentioned above, we tend to use one for the rooms as a dressing room/wardrobe, and still have loads of room for the family. We have the sewn in ground sheet and have had no leaks and its seen some BAD weather!
I agree with some that it can be a bit of a struggle putting it up in the wind, but each time we pitch it we get better!
One bonus I have found is that you can have 1,2,3 or no bedrooms giving even more space, even used it for kit drying and a crash tent on a canoe camp.
Highly recommended!

We use this tent when we stay for more than a couple of days since it does take a while to set up. (We do have other tents for weekends away and if we need to stop overnight.) This tent is brilliant and has stood up to some ferocious weather. It has never leaked or let us down. For a tent this size it would only be reasonable to ensure that all the guys are used to keep it secure.
We have a separate footprint which helps to choose a good pitch and give a pitching guide and this does help. We use one of the bedrooms as a walk-in wardrobe which makes it very easy to organise clothes. The living area is HUGE and makes it a really comfortable tent to be in during bad weather. It feels bright and not oppressive, Last week we were camping with members of our family with several very young children. They were happily entertained in our tent during the rain (although I’m ashamed to say I had brought along my laptop with Bob the Builder and Thomas the Tank Engine DVDs which did help!)

This tent is brilliant. We bought it as we wanted a tent we could stand up in and if the weather was bad have plenty of space to sit and eat in. Yes its big and bulky so you need a big car/trailer, but once you have got it up it stays up. (My husband can actually do it by himself but I think that is a bit rare really!) We had strong winds and heavy rain whilst on once holiday - in the morning we didn't have a single leak. The tent next to us purchased for £50 from a supermarket had to be binned. We do find that we have to double check pitch sizes at some sites though
Our model has a separate ground sheet. Whilst I was unsure of this to start with, it makes it lighter to lift and pack etc and we have never had a leak. The only little niggle I have is that the ground sheet is shaped at the front doorway and is 6 inches shorter than the tent, we always seem to trip on it. The individual bedroom pods are great, you can put them up in any combination you like. We sleep in the middle one on a double mattress and our daughter sleeps in one side one. You can fit a double mattress in a side bedroom if you want, we tried it! We do not put the third bedroom up and use the space for storing all our clothes, bags etc. Having a door each side provides lots of flexibility.
I would like it to have a bit more ventilation without unzipping doors though. There are small vents above the two side windows but not the front ones. Its not a bit deal though as you have the doors. We liked the fact that the front 'wall' could be moved in to make a bigger outdoor covered area but we haven't actually had cause to use that. I think the rectangular configuration with bedrooms at the back is a good one.
I have never used a round tent with pods on each side but I can imagine it makes it hard to configure the living space inside. The canopy provides good shelter from the rain and a windbreak provides a bit more privacy. This tent is an investment and will last many holidays.

Go out and buy one. I've owned several tents over the years and this is without doubt the only tent I will ever buy again should I need to replace the one I now have. My previous tent had fibre glass poles and when I camped in strong winds found the tent very unstable and sometimes blew over so I wanted a tent that was sturdy yet easy to erect, this tent answered my needs. There is 3 spacious bed rooms, large interior plus detachable sun canopy. The tent stands strong in the roughest of weather. Doors to the front and either side, windows to sides front and in the roof. You cant loose the pitching instructions as they are sewn into the carry bag so wont get blown all across the camp when getting set up. Poles are very strong and easy to put together.Similar to a frame tent only better. Only down side the tent comes in 2 bags, one for poles one for tent and are a little heavy but hey you cant have your cake and eat it as this is for me the best tent available

Totally agree with Didsy01 and Geraldine Bookham. We love our tent, spent two weeks in Port Grimaud with it plus weekends in the UK. It has had all weathers thrown at it and coped with it all superbly while watching others in tents get wet, damp and cold.
Only moan - it's heavy to put up with 2 people in good weather but in the wind it's a 3 to 4 adult job.
