1 Reviews of the 10T Felton 3
By: Drbob Reason: I own(ed) one Made in: 2014 Rating:
Features an eye catching 5000 HH on a tent for less than £100. Is it worth it?
Tested over two days in drizzle and 20km/h winds.
Verdict: The pegs need replacing immediately - they are not fit for purpose BUT even on the German Amazon this is acknowledged - so add £10. I did a setup test before venturing out in it, Even on soft ground I bent (without knowing) half the pegs.
There's a trick to setting up these tunnel tents. Once the poles are all in place (flat on the ground) get the back end hoop perpendicular to the ground by positioning the pegs at its base and controlling the vertical angle with the three rear guy lines. When the back end is a perfect shape then pull the remaining hoops to tension the outer with a focus on aligning the front hoop with the rear.Expect to jiggle the pegs and guys a few times to get the outer taut.
The inner and attached bucket ground sheet is fixed inside. The whole pitching process takes 15-20 minutes (you can do it in 10 minutes but the tent will not be taut enough)
In use. This is almost a three man tent as judged by the sleeping space. It is also well designed in that the inner is visually pleasing (like sleeping in a post modern painting) We got the cheap light grey version of the tent ( darker colours cost more) and liked the sleeping experience. Useful pockets in the inner and plenty of leg room for two 6 foot plus males.
The tent was well pitched, guys were tightened and secured each night and the tent barely acknowledged the ever present wind. Rain on these tents tends to roll off the top and make a noise like small rodents - a little alarming at first.
The following morning there was very minor leakage around a zip at the front end - a small cloth sorted that out. I think more attention to the alignment of the outer at the front would have prevented that.
The bag it comes with is below average for the tent size. As a learning experience I got my son to take down the tent and pack it up - he almost got it in the bag! As the tent has to be taken out to dry I guess that's my job tomorrow.
Very pleased with the tent - a good price performance ratio. The build quality is good. The seams are well finished - the zips are strong enough but all tent zips deserve care in use.
10T seems to be a small German outdoor specialist. The reviews in German on Amazon are in in with what I found.
If you are a novice - it would be worth putting it up a few times before you use it in anger.
In answer to the question 'is it worth it?'.Yes - probably the best tunnel tent of this design in this price range,
