My first trip with this tent went well. It was fairly easy to put up, and had enough space for my partner and I to be comfortable, given our advanced years. On our second trip a pole snapped when we were putting it up. We are both very experienced campers and knew not to use excessive force, but the pole snapped anyway. It then started to rain. We were in the Lake District, after all! Though not heavy, it was constant all through the night and into the morning. At around noon I felt a drop of water slide down my neck. At first I thought it was condensation, even though the door was wide open. However as time progressed I realized that in fact most of the living area roof was simply leaking, and the problem grew worse with each passing minute. All this in only 2 trips. There won't be a third, and I will never buy a Vango ever again, despite having done so in the past. The quality is simply no longer there, if this experience is anything to go by.

I bought this tent in July for use in August 2011. It is a great tent to pitch and the interior redesign is great.
Unfortunately when we pitched it in Somerset in windy and rainy conditions the tent leaked. It accumulated pools of water in the front corners by the door and around the bedroom area.
I took it back to Cotswold Outdoors who refunded the cost. I had bought it for £139.00 which was well below the RRP price and the standard retail price of £170.
I emailed Vango and told them I had to send the tent back. I got a response which said that they were sorry to hear that about the tent. They stated that they may have been something wrong with the material or the waterproofing of the material.
I hope that they will deal with the issue and that more people report this if they experience the same problem.

This is a fantastic tent. Me and my partner had decided to go camping after not going for a few years with our parents as children. My mum had not long brought this tent and told us how easy it was to put up, so we brought one. Three poles and the tent is up. The built in groundsheet is great for keeping water out. We have also purchased the canopy, which is brilliant (no need for windbreaks). For saying this is ment to be a 5 birth tent, I do think 5 people would be cramped in this tent and you would have to sleep without airbeds as 2 doubles fills the bedrooms up. But as only 2 of us used this tent there is plenty of room inside for a cooker on a stand, full size table, cool box, and chairs. I would recommend this tent.

I bought this based on the good reviews in the past but the reviews seem to have gone downhill so maybe they have changed the quality of the tent. It is a good size for a weekend tent but quality does not seem great and the inner door has torn around the zip join. Not impressed as we have looked after this tent! I am not sure how to repair it as there is no excess material to do it, the inner is actually sewn into the back of the tent so I cannot remove it to replace it. Any ideas anyone???

Used for a week in N Wales. Took the brunt of the rain initially but then started leaking along the middle seam, dripping into bedroom compartments. We could just about cope with that but in the wind it gave up the ghost.
In gusty conditions the whole front of the tent (facing wind) was flapping down, eventually hitting my husband on the head as he sat in his chair!
We came back after a rainy day out to find a flat tent with a pond in it, both sides of front pole had snapped, middle pole bent.
Took back to Millets and got a full refund. V disappointed, shall not buy a Vango of this style again, very poor quality. Had a tent from Lidls for 5 years before this and no probs with that, makes you think!
Given 2 stars for ease to pitch and fairly compact size when packed.

We upgraded to this tent as we wanted one with enough room for a 2 week holiday where my 6' 2' husband could stand comfortably in. It was a great size for the 2 of us and easy to put up - once we'd practiced in the back garden we had no need to look at the instructions again! During our fortnight away we experienced very strong winds and torrential rain and only had a small amount of leakage which actually stopped when we moved - possibly we hadn't got the tension right the previous time? Will probably add some seam sealant to be on the safe side for the next time. We liked the layout and the option to use the side door during bad weather. Bought the king pins for the front door and liked having this option to open up the lounge area a bit more. Glad we invested in the ground sheet which meant we could pitch it more accurately and protected the tent itself.

Pro's
Easy to put up.
Both doors have fly nets.
Good head room - husband is 6'3' and can stand in it. Lots of room in the living area.
Excellent value for money.
The Vango Yukon 800 carpet fits perfectly!
Con's
Front door could do with poles as it comes with pole eyelets. Side door could do with a small in-built canopy as both doors aren't great in the rain.
Overall, would definitely recommend to a friend and am considering buying the canopy, largely due to the English weather.

I've now used my Surf Blue 2011 Icarus 500 on 3 occasions (not counting the test pitch in the garden) and it has experienced wind, rain and (shock) sunshine in the Lake District. I have to say, I am very impressed. The height is such that I don't have to stoop (I'm 6ft) and it's up in under 30 mins. Folding away, especially if wet, is a bit of an ordeal but you eventually get the hang of it. I also purchased the carpet and footprint both of which I think are overpriced but essential. On the last trip a pole splintered in some quite heavy wind but I didn't realise this until I was taking it down which shows the design is good (i.E. The tent didn't fall down when the pole broke!) and as a replacement kit is only £6 it isn't the end of the world. I would agree with earlier reviews about the problem with water coming in if you open the door when it's raining but a quick tap of the tent roof before unzipping seems to avoid any major ingress. One other minor irritant is the sleeping compartment sags quite badly at the back (especially if it's not pitched on perfectly flat ground) so the taller among you may find your head/feet touching the inner during the night. All told, I'm very pleased with it although I'm not as happy with the manufacturing quality of our (third) enclosed canopy - but that's another story!

Have used this ample sized tent on numerous weekends away, several week aways and an 11 day break. For 2 people its a great size. It has stood up to gales and heavy showers remarkably well, with leakage only where the canopy rests on the roof.
Bought the canopy, footprint and carpet last year and will replace with the latest model when this one is worn out, possibly next year.
The canopy is a great asset and extends the tent brilliantly.
It is extremely easy to erect and collapse and I would highly recommend it to anyone. Great value tent for the price.

Used once in North Devon, easy to erect - no problem; heavy rain - no problem; strong winds - PROBLEM. One section of pole split in two, causing front of tent to collapse and so we returned a day early. Vango weren't interested in any complaint or design suggestions! Yeomans Outdoors who we bought it from online initially weren't keen to accept that it wasn't our fault. But in the end we did a deal and went for the Calisto 500. Better luck next time for us - fingers crossed!
