Bought the Icarus 500 after looking at many tents. Wanted a roomy tent, even though there are only two of us using it, liked the height too, my husband can stand up in every part of it, unlike many tents that have got good height in main area but slope at the back. Plenty pocket space too.
Bought the carpet and footprint. Carpet lovely for a bit of luxury, footprint helps protect tent base and adds a bit of warmth also good because you can lay out footprint to see where you want to set up on pitch.
Good size living and bedroom area. Also bought porch poles to make good use of main door for canopy.
Just after pitching it poured down for the next hour plus a few showers the following day - didn't find any leaks!
A couple of small gripes, only one electric inlet to tent could do with two (one at each side) depending how near electric supply is in location to tent. Main door must be tight closed during rain, if not fully zipped will easily let rain in. Apart from that - great tent and easy to pitch. Fully recommend as a fab buy. Great for two - four people.

When raining and using 'side doors' water drips into the tent soaking into the carpet like blotting paper could do with some sort of water deflector.
In any sort of breeze or light wind the large 'frontage' when zipped closed has a tendency to to be 'blown in' could do with additional support via guide wire / rope / string what ever you want to call it.
My advice. DO NOT USE IN WIND OR RAIN.
Bring back the old fashioned FRAME tents

We had a pale blue 2007 Icarus 500 and by far has been my favourite tent out of the 3 we have had. Only thinking about getting a new tent as ours has been discontinued and we cant get matching canopy/extension for it. This 5 berth is a good size for 3 people, has a good living space, pitches in about 20 mins, has always withstood horrendous rain and wind. Has a small opening for putting EHU in, also has ample storage pockets in between rooms and has ties for attaching a lantern. Windows are plentiful and the 2 doors give you a choice of entrance. I love this tent 10/10

I found the Icarus 500 tent a fantastic tent overall,we purchased the enclosed canopy and carpet for ours and found the quality to be of a very high standard,We pitched from bag to fully up in about 40 min but hope to get quicker each time we put up.We tested the tent in every extreme of weather in the west of Ireland from sunshine to 40 mph winds and really heavy rainfall that lasted 12 hours, we did get some leaks but that was down to how we put up the tent and have learned from our mistakes, the tent survived the winds and poles flexed all over the place but never broke.
There is loads of room for all our stuff and as I am introducing my other half to camping we seem to have a lot of stuff, gone are the days of roughing it in the wild she now calls it glamping (glamorous camping) instead of camping.I can honestly say that the Icarus 500 tent suits all of our needs but would defo recommend that you purchase the canopy for the extra space and the carpet as it really is that little bit of luxury. We will be testing the Icarus again in France this summer for two weeks and I have high hopes about its performance, will upload some pics as soon as I work out how, happy glamping ! PS I only gave it 9 of of 10 as I have not learned to trust it fully yet but want to in time.

We bought a Vango Icarus 500 tent and I can only say that it was well worth the money. We bought it last year and been camping 4 times so far. Its a very roomy tent with good height. We also bought the canopy for it so it makes the tent a lot bigger and if it rains we have a nice shelter. We have looked around recently at the new Vangos 2011 but I'm not keen on them

Bought this tent, fly sheet, carpet and canopy in 2010, used for the first time Easter 2011. Easy to put up taking about 30 mins. Good tent for two adults, not sure if it would sleep a family of five comfortably. Used second bedroom pod as storage area for clothes etc. Living area adequate, but once you bring in cooking equipment etc. For overnight storage can be a bit of a squeeze. Canopy ideal for cooking under and sitting in if nice night. Storage pockets in living area, but could do with somewhere to hang extra storage pockets from. Slight leak from one of the lower seams during a storm but nothing major. Third trip out we decided to purchase the enclosed canopy, only problem was not able to get Laurel/Meadow colour, last years colour, had to settle for Moss, does not look too bad against original tent, was definitely a good buy being able to zip it closed and leave cooking equipment, table/chairs, shoes etc. In, giving more space in living area of tent, nearly doubling size of tent. Good have done with fly screen over main door. Overall good value tent.

We owned a 2009 Icarus 500 including the carpet and large sun canopy. Overall its a good tent for the price. Provides plenty of room for 2 or 3 people - it would be very tight if you actually tried to squeeze in the advertised 4 or 5 people!
Very easy to erect the tent itself although we found it a little tricky to add the canopy - never really worked out where the guy ropes are meant to hook over the front of the tent without squashing the tent down at the front.
Positives - good value for money, easy to pitch and good weekend tent.
Negatives - the poles are fairly weak. We had some reasonable winds on our first trip and the whole back of the tent was flexing downwards - not good! Also the overall quality of the tent is a little low (toggles coming off after 2 trips etc) - have now swapped it for an Outwell.

We bought the Icarus 500 Aug 2010, although we never got to use it until Oct 2010 we found the tent to be a great tent for a weekend break, we bought the tent with an open sun canopy, we considered the enclosed canopy but then opted to buy the Tigris 800 also. Its spacious for what we need it for and that would be 3 adults. Although my daughter is now 16yrs old she may not always opt to come away with us giving us more room. I used the tent this Easter and it accommodated 4 adults and a child with comfort. I pitched the tent myself with little help, and found it easy to erect. When hubby bought the tent he purchased rock pegs, a great investment also.
The sun canopy was a great addition as was the footprint groundsheet, we also bought the carpet and windbreak.A great advertisement for Vango. I will post some photos as soon as I figure out how to.

Not really a 5 man tent but great for me and my partner. It was easy to put up, coped fine with very windy weather and no leaks when it rained. We bought the footprint too which was a great idea to keep the base of the tent dry and the carpet made it nice and cosy. Will get the tunnel next for extra room. Ours is green and looked lovely.

Bought as an additional tent as sometimes our 8 berth is just too big. Wanted a tent that was easy to pitch and would accommodate take 4 of us for a quick overnight/short camping trip. This one fits the bill.
We can pitch it in about 20 mins (2 people) and as we have the canopy can be all pitched and unpacked in under 45 mins (when the children help!)
The sleeping space would be a little cosy for 5 but 4 of us fit easily.
We bought the canopy as the living space is not large enough to house the cooker, chairs, table etc and we did not want to keep them in the car or outside.
Just been away again with this tent (5 nights) and although the first night was very windy it stood up well.
Recently bought the carpet for this tent as we had been using old blankets on the floor but thought we would treat ourselves to a little luxury!
Only slight downside is that the wind can blow through the front and side openings making it cooler than our other tent which can be completely sealed.
Certainly not a bad buy for the money and we would recommend it.
