Used my new Vango Icarus 500 this weekend 9/4/11. This was an upgrade from my usual dome tent that is used after walking/climbing to something to suit taking daughter/friends away.

- Had watched the video for putting up tent despite this it took 40 mins - but I know where I would improve!

- Once you have fed through the tunnel poles, peg in the back part of groundsheet before setting up each part of the canopy remembering to really pull it forward or you end up with insufficient tension on tent. We didn't do this and had to go back and redo!

- Once tent up there was some odd tension problems on some of the zips - but need to see if this was a set up issue when I next use it.

- The all in one tent is great as once all pegged in you ready to get going!

- Great doors and windows to give light, views and various access points

- Only one ribbon attaching the bedroom to the outdoor had already broke before being set up

- I thought the tent had a hook for a lantern - but none!

- Great pockets

- Great space for two and could probably accommodate 4 as long as weather lovely.

-Wish I had bought the footprint as the bottom of groundsheet was quite muddy (even though weather lovely)

- I didn't buy the carpet but used a collection of waterproof backed picnic blankets and a rush mat for boots at door into the living space which were functional and could be shaken clean.

- The canopy will be next investment for cooking

- Overall the Vango Icarus 500 is a great tent. Easy to set up for weekends and big and functional enough for weeks away.

- think the bedroom separator sheet could be improved to ensure privacy whilst allowing the flexibility to open up the two bedrooms

- I paid £120 for this online and very happy with this price.

So easy to pitch , pensioners can do it . Loads of room although there are only two of us using it , it could easily sleep a family of 4 comfortably. We have a table and 2 chairs, two large kitchen camping units and a table top freezer and large cool box in the living quarters and theres still room for loads of bags and clothes . However somwehere to hang your clothes up would be great and the ceiling light hook would be better being more central, we used this to hang a long plastic shoe storer which was great for keeping to hand the torches and tiolet roll etc .

We also have the Icarus canopy which is great and lets us cook our breakfast outdoors in the morning even on rainy days . And keeps the muddy boots from being brought into the tent. The canopy is a fantastic addition but could be greatly improved by giving it the option to be totally closed in at the front when the weather is bad with a extra wide zip / roll up front door .

We have camped in some quite severe wind and rain last year and the tent stayed put even when on top of a exposed hill, although one tent pole did snap but we exchanged it for one from canopy till we got it fixed . All things considered I love this tent and love the fact that its simple strong and its spacious but doesn't take up two pitches .

I bought this tent in April 2010 and have used it 4 times. We bought the canopy after the first time we used it so we weren't sat outside in the wind at night and it was a Godsend. Nitpicking the only problem we can find with this tent is that we would have liked the room divide in the bedroom to be able to fasten on a bit sturdier but other than that it was definitely worth it's money

Quite happy with this tent so far. Plenty room for 2 adults, a 3yr old and the dog. Did have some condensation in the living area after a particularly chilly night. But it stood up to 3 days and nights of rain no problem. Looking forward to testing it out more next year as thats it away for the season now.

Had our Vango Icarus 500 since April, used 5 times for long weekends in various weather and I would say it has been good value. Last trip one pole cracked slightly in the canopy but still usable. One person can pitch within half hour. The canopy is a must in wet weather if you want the doors open on the tent.

After reading some comments on frayed seams I can say hand on heart that I have no problems with my Icarus. Brought it April this year and used it 3 times. I also have the footprint, carpet and the canopy which all put together make a really nice sturdy set up. Makes a good tent for 2 people with ample room but a bit cramped for the so say 5. Real easy to pitch and even better with the footprint. People need to remember that this is intended as weekend tent but will cope well with a week. I'm well chuffed with it and would recommend one to everybody.

Have had this tent 6 months now and what a great buy.

Nice large windows. Just returned from Dorset, 2 days solid rain, not a single leak. Easy to pitch, lots of storage pockets, very comfortable for 3 people not 5 as advertised. As stated from previous reviewer could do with light hook in living area, but would recommend this tent

Bought this in the spring, added carpet & canopy and must admit that the tent & canopy braved out a very exposed site in Devon (Stoke Barton) coped well with gale force winds & heavy rains.Don't think it's a 5 berth, probably 4 at a pinch, the sun canopy is huge, gives so much extra space,it was a bargain at £50.No trouble at all with condensation on autumn days/nights,well pleased with this ,our first tent!

Bought a brand new Icarus 500 for £89 by using price match with Go Outdoors, so a bargain was had.

I erected the tent only to find that there was a mis- stitched seam of approx 6 inches on the main door where the storm flap attaches to the main front door. I was not happy. There was also lots of long threads of cotton everywhere !. I re packed tent and took it back to go outdoors.

My second 500, dirty marks/stains on the inner bedroom. Thread pulls ( at least 8 )on the side mesh door and on the mesh vent on one of the bedroom doors, again, lots of thread pulls all over.

Overall very poor quality in my opinion, if you inspect closely you will notice many areas where stitching is right on the edge of the seams.

I cannot be bothered to take yet another tent back so have cleaned the inner bedroom as best I can and will live with the thread pulls on the doors.

That said, the size, layout etc makes for a great tent and at £89 was a bargain, but I think you get what you pay for. I did expect more from Vango though.

Bought this for £89.95 after Go Outdoors priced matched. Also got the carpet and foot print all for under £150! What a bargain! Pitched the tent in the garden and left outside for a couple of days in the rain, and boy did it rain! Also 20mph winds and gusts with torrential rain but the tent was bone dry inside.

Great living space and nice to be able to stand up in the bedrooms. There will be 3 of us using it and I think it will be comfortable.

Want to buy the canopy next. Really pleased with our purchase.
