This was our second Coleman purchase (first one was a riverside 6). It was a fab upgrade. We love it.
The plus+ points:
* Size
* Easy to erect
* Strong
* Looks Good
* Keeps the cold out but still has good ventilation in the warm - we have the cool air pod fan which is fantastic
* Self rolling windows are excellent
* Easy to pitch and take down - colour coded poles
* Easy to get in the bag once packed up
* Bedrooms that can fit double airbeds in - this tent can really sleep 6
* Porch over front door keeps rain away from door
* clever zipped area for EHU to come into the tent
We also bought the carpet which is lovely, and the porch - ours fitted perfectly and is a great addition to allow us to store all the camp kitchen stuff.
I cant think of a downside to this tent - perhaps the bag the poles come in is a bit flimsy! We love it!

We have finally had our first test run of this tent after waiting for a decent sunny weekend and we are very pleased with it. We previously had a 6 man dome tent (Sunncamp Penta) which served us well over about 7 years but we always felt that the fibreglass poles would snap at the hint of any wind.
The Mackenzie Cabin 6 feels so sturdy with its steel wire linked poles and is very easy to put up. There is ample space for 3 people - it may a bit squished for 6 but all tents are a bit of a squish if filled to the advertised capacity.
I do agree with some niggles other reviewers have, for example, yes the pole bag is very flimsy. We have transferred all the poles into my husband electricians bag and left the canopy in the original bag. This helps us to carry this otherwise unmanageably heavy tent down 2 flights of stairs from our flat.
Also, I do agree that the zipped partition in the 2 x 2 bedroom pod could do with zipping just down the front and back to allow for a double to be placed in the middle of the pod.
The tent pegs are a bit flimsy but we have built up a supply of meaty pegs over the years so this wasn't a problem.
All in all this is a fabulous tent and highly recommended especially if you ask for a price match which we did.

Just returned from camping at the weekend and used the Mackenzie Cabin 6 for the first time. The tent itself is great. Nice size internally and easy to put up. Had heavy rain on the first night and a small amount of water came in the door seam.
I know I could have got a slightly bigger tent for the same money but decided to put the build quality ahead of additional space. It's very sturdy which is important for me with young kids inside.
Unfortunately I can't say the same about the side canopy which is an additional purchase. I had the exact same problem as the reviewer below (Intenter) i.E. A 4' gap on the left hand side. This puzzled me for ages as we checked the tent over & over to make sure it was pitched correctly before assuming that the fault was with the canopy itself.
In a way I was relieved to see that someone else had the exact same problem and noticed that one of the reviewer's photos on this page shows the problem clearly: http://www.Ukcampsite.Co.Uk/tents/p/Coleman-Mackenzie-Cabin-6/1782
At the moment I'm not sure whether to return the canopy or make adjustments as ideally I could do with the space.
If I get this resolved then I'll be very happy with my purchase.

This is an excellent family tent for camping in the UK.
I'm a seasoned camper and have owned Wild Country and Outwell tents previously and this Coleman design is as good as I've seen. It is a very robust design (using pre-curved steel poles) and both the stitching and material quality is to a high standard (you can always tell a well made tent my the stitch quality). It appears to be based on the Wild Country 'Homestead' design which set the benchmark in sturdy family tent for many years. But Coleman have added many modern features without compromise to the overall stability.
I have used this tent 5 times in the past year and it has stood up fantastically to very heavy rain and strong gusty winds. It is slightly smaller and pack size & weight is approx 30% less than the Montana 6, which is why I bought it. But it is still a good size for our family with 3 separate bedrooms.
In response to the comment below about the tent not pitching correctly, this is probably down to an 'inexperienced' camper. As with all tents of this design you need to peg out the corners and line out the poles on one side first before pegging out and adjusting the tension straps on the other side. On flat ground it's one of the easiest tents I've ever pitched, on sloping ground it does need some adjustments to the tension straps. If you buy the footprint groundsheet (a must!) its even easier to pitch.
As already mentioned the only 2 negatives are the rubbish pegs that are provided (presumably to get to keep the weight down) and the pole bag is not sturdy enough.

This comment is for the Porch / side extension.
I found some difficulty getting the porch to sit right against the tent and noticed that the over-tent roof section didn't stay over the top of the poles but kept slipping inwards over one or the other. I also noticed that the left side of the porch sidewall was UP off the ground by about 4' , But the other side ( right side with 'fixed' strap points was almost touching the ground).
Looking at the doorway of the porch. The whole canvas was ' cockled' to the right , even the door wasn't straight.
I calculated that either :
1/ The canopy wasn't made right
-----------or-------------
2/ The poles were too long.
After getting back home and re-pitching the tent in my garden , I took another look . It seemed to me that if I cut 2' of each of the 4 pole legs the thing would sit much better.
I got 2 other opinions on what I was about to do and what would happen to the fitting of the tent material if I did the modification. I didn't just want to proceed as it would be irrecoverable afterwards. Both people agreed with me, so I went ahead.
I then removed the spiked ends from the 4 pole legs that go through the ground straps eyelets. I cut 2' off each one with a hacksaw and cleaned up the ends with a half round file. And replaced the spikes.
Now the porch sits true and I have got rid of the 4' high gap on the left hand side. The over-roof section sits lower over the doorway , meaning the sides of the over roof part sit lower and tighter over the TENT roof poles. The whole porch now looks a better fit and IS a better fit to the tent.
In effect, the modification doesn't alter the fitting of the canvas on the right side of the porch as the distance from the ground is FIXED by the straps at that side ( there is NO adjustment of the straps on the right side of porch. ) The cutting of the poles on that side , mean the material is now 2' longer so the material fits 2' further over/ along the poles. Then the 2' removed from the poles at LEFT side means that a further 2' of material + the 2' already gained allows the material on the LEFT side to come 4' further to the ground. This is adjusted by the adjustable straps on that side. This brings that side which was 4' too high , completely down filling the gap. As a result this also seems to cure the slanting door. It also reduces the wind getting under the porch causing Billowing of the whole porch and over-roof section. In turn this reduces the strain that was caused by wind on the straps , door zips and velcro adjusters.
Since then I have looked at the other photo's others have posted on this website of their porch / tent and I see that their porch suffers from the same problem.
This brings me to the conclusion that they are probably all the same. Either someone made the poles too long at the factory , or perhaps it's a compromise as this porch also 'fits' other models of Coleman.
I think others would find it worthwhile doing this pole cut modification if your porch doesn't look right. CHECK FIRST
Please let me know what you think and if you do the Modification . Happy camping .

Just returned from a weekend in Wales with 50mph wind gusts, the tent was brilliant unlike the eurohike windbreak which bent like a banana. Its very easy to pitch and breakdown. The 2011 model the main bedroom divide folds flat so put can put your double bed in the middle without any problems. Missing a few little touches but this is more than made up for with how secure you feel. The canopy extension adds a complete new dimension but could be easier to erect

First let me say . This is a well made tent. I own and have owned many tents. I ALWAYS find design faults. Things they 'should have done' that would have cost nothing or very little.
In this case , 'issues' are as follows:
1/ Why didn't they fit a rainhood over the second door ? It would have cost them around £5 during manufacture.
2/ The 2 side by side bedrooms can have the room divider unzipped but the bottom of the divider is raised and means that an airbed cannot be placed across the 2 bedrooms, it's also not wide enough due to the zip being in the wrong place. The airbed still has to be in 1 side only which means even with only 2 people using the tent you cannot have 'standing' room either side of your airbed. If only they had put the zipper in a slightly different position !
3/ The inner bedrooms twin-pod has it's lowest bungies/ straps going to side of tent and NOT to the floor. This means that on uneven ground or sloping pitches the step-through into the bedroom can be very very high. Yet they did put 1 centre strap to the floor . Why not the others at the 2 sides near the floor ?
4/ Why not put short zippers either side of doors on the sewn-in-groundsheet ? That way it could be un-zipped to be rid of the high step-through which can be a pain with young children and toddlers. Simple isn't it ?
5/ Why has the pole-bag not got a strengthened bottom ? cost = pennies ! The poles have spikes on them , just right to go through the bag .
6/ Supplied with the weakest bendy pegs I have ever used ! ( if you buy this GOOD tent buy some good pegs for it ) .
Other than those points , you have bought a well made tent. Oh , 1 other thing . It's a bit cramped for 6 people , more likely OK for 2 or 4. You can take out the spare bedroom pod and get more space. . They got that one right just because they come out . Not because they thought of it !
NOTE : the first 2010 model doesn't have the self rolling windows.

We have just returned from our first 'Test run' of the Mackenzie Cabin 6 and we are really impressed. I can only re-iterate what the other review's have said, in that it is sturdy, easy to erect, spacious and yet with an element of privacy. The ground at the site was particularly hard and stony but fortunately we had a pack of 20 hard ground pegs. After breaking one mallet we were able to put all the essential pegs in but only 5/6 guy ropes. Even during a pretty windy night with a quarter of the total guy ropes in place this tent was rock solid. The only reason it doesn't get a ten is that it is missing a couple of the 'cleverer' features our previous Outwell had. An absolutely fantastic tent none the less.

I own several Coleman tents I'm a big fan, I can see why this one won family tent of the year 2010!
It's a fantastic sized family tent, has no problem with pitch size and I can get my car on too.
I went to town and bought the footprint carpet canopy and windbreak, I love the canopy we use it as a cooking area which is good for putting hot plates on the floor rather than on the carpet or sewn in groundsheet of the tent.
This tent is very easy to put up colour coded metal poles with ground spikes in (very sturdy)and quick to pack away I do love those Coleman oversized bags, just making life that bit easier, very spacious for 2 or 3 people easily accommodate a couple and up to 3 or 4 kids in the 3 double sized bedrooms we get a high kingsize airbed in ours so they aren't tight on size.
Would recommend this tent to anyone we tend to leave out the 3rd bedroom and it feels like you need to install an intercom as this makes the living area is huge! we soon fill it with stuff including an 8ftx3ft foot kayak with no problems and plenty of space for chairs table etc.
This tent is well designed, well made, and unless really unfortunate or careless can't see why with a bit of looking after wouldn't last you for years too come, think if you look after it, it will look after you!

I have had this tent for a year now and I can safely say, my opinion has only got better. We found out that it is very strong in high winds by comparison to many other brands. On August bank holiday last year, several tents were falling down or tearing, we stayed stable without a fuss.
I also mentioned in my original review, that it only has 2 small windows. This is of course in addition to the ones in the 2 doors! It is nice and airy with the large doors, but as I originally stated, you don't feel like you are on show with too many windows all around you.
