11 Reviews of the Studland 8         Showing 11 to 11          Page:   1   2

By: The Dadster  Reason: I own(ed) one  Made in: 2009   Rating:

After having searched literally for a year to replace our aging Kyham Ultimate we took the brave decision of buying the Kampa Studland 8 from Casey's Outdoors near Chester. A fun day out was had by all as we travelled specially from Leicestershire to Casey's to see the first (that we could find) pitched Kampa tents.

We were not disappointed. The quality seemed head and shoulders above the Outwells and Sprayways we had been looking at. The aluminium poles are beautiful and the flysheet quality (and electric blue colour of the Studland) are great.

It is massive though. Space is no problem for a family of 4 there is loads of it. The height and multi-windows give an immense sense of space and light.

The downsides - not many really. The poles are in one piece so you have to thread the whole pole including the uprights and not just thread the roof sections and then add the uprights afterwards like most tents we have looked at. Then, the height (that once it is up gives a brilliant sense of space) does cause a problem. I am six foot and I could not reach to clip the bedrooms in - yes, you can leave the bedrooms in when it is packed up so this may be a once only problem but you will still be standing on a chair to hang a light in the place provided.

Also, one small quality problem - a seam on a bedroom which looked like it had missed the sowing machine. A phone call to Kampa sorted this out - next day courier to collect it from home and returned repaired two days later. Nice to know the company behind the product cares about image and quality to this extent - v. Reassuring.

We did not subject the tent to too much bad weather in a weekend tryout at the new Dartmouth clubsite (Lovely people but rubbish site shop - no matches can you believe!) but enough to make the prospect of a Spring Bank Holiday week in Yorkshire and three weeks at Veryan in the summer look very safe and comfortable in the big Kampa. The tent seemed very well guyed and those aluminium poles make it very stable.

We are really looking forward to enjoying this tent this year plus I cannot believe they will be so cheap next year once they have established a reputation, that on first impressions they certainly deserve, for being a huge, stable and top quality tent more than able to compete with the established brands.

Manufacturer's Description

Flexible accommodation in an exceptionally large tent is what the Studland 8 is all about. It has no less than three bedrooms that can be used in any configuration to suit your needs – the small front inner tent is ideal for a teenager. Outside the Studland 8 looks particularly striking. No other tent packs more features into its specification but the Studland 8 is not just about features; it is based on an exceptionally strong design using the finest materials that provides secure accommodation and a fine base for your holiday. A large canopy protects the front of the tent allowing easy access in all weathers and protection from the sun on those glorious summer days. A vestibule is available, as an optional extra, which fits the front of the canopy and converts into an enclosed space. Three zip out Airflow windows can provide even more ventilation as can the side door with full fly screen. Despite its size, the Studland 8 is simple to erect – all the poles are the same length, so no putting the wrong pole in the wrong place and like our other tents, the inner tents have colour coded suspension points to make fitting child’s play.
