Bought a Gelert horizon 8 last Summer from Littlewoods. It's marketed by Gelert as the prefect family tent, which it is in terms of space.

It leaked terribly, I'm talking puddles, as other reviews suggest, mainly through the seams where there's a guy line attachment on the outside. I've read so many reviews since then where other people say the same thing but the most surprising thing of all seems to be Gelerts lack of surprise when notified, any review that I have read where owners of brand new leaking Horizons have notified Gelert have been told the same thing. Go buy some sealant and fix it yourself. Stupidly this is what I did. I needed a tent, Littlewoods didn't have a replacement but offered to reimburse, Gelert really didn't care.

I sealed it myself and did see some improvement, left in the garden for a few days to test it, the leaking almost stopped and I was just starting to think that it would be ok on future camp trips but the weather turned a bit windy before I managed to take it down and two of the poles snapped and the tent was in a semi collapsed position, this was in a sheltered garden, and well pegged With taut guy lines. I'm very sorry now that I didn't return it. I have to order replacement poles before Summer but don't feel particularly confident about taking my kids camping too far from home this Summer. I emailed Gelert recently to tell them about this but surprise surprise, no response. Until this experience I had complete faith in Gelert and thought their products were great quality. I feel very let down by their lack of customer service.

Time will tell how it will hold up on out next trip. I'm not convinced to be honest.

We bought the tent it leaked like a sieve on our first trip, so we complained to manufacturer because the amount of water that came into the tent was ridiculous. So they sent us a new tent, we liked the design and space of the Horizon 8 so it was replaced with another.

We weathered the tent again then about a month later went off for the weekend only to return home in the early hours of the following day because of the tent leaking. I will never buy another Gelert tent

We went camping in our Gelert Horizon 8 for the first time this year and it was fantastic. It has about 5 poles and the rest is guide ropes! It took us about 20-30 mins which really isn't that long. There is a massive amount of space in the tent. We only put 2 bedrooms one end. One for the kids and one for us. Then the rest of the tent is used as a lounge! Compared to others tents that were with us that weekend ours was up the quickest and hassle free. Such a fantastic tent!

Love love love it! I am always perusing round camping shops, have one of the best very close to me, and yet to find one I think might be better! I have gone just myself and my two children, and can send them off to play while I out it up on my won. Not bad for a big tent! The only thing I struggle with single handedly is the porch! Plenty of room. Kids get a room each, and I get a huge one! Still plenty of room. On longer holidays the porch id brilliant for cooking and storing, and leaving dirty shoes, I always put a ground sheet down in this. Its easy enough to bung up for an overnighter too. Love the carpet. Really pleases.

As avid campers with many years experience of camping, I purchased the tent, groundsheet, carpet and canopy / porch in Spring 2011. This was our 2nd year of using it and it withstood the gales and torrential rain that fell during our holiday this summer with no issues at all. There is ample room for us 4 using 1 bedroom area as a walk in wardrobe.

Over the past 2 years we had visitors staying, taking it to a 8 berth and yet there was still plenty of room for us all. We use the porch with rubber clip together flooring as a kitchen area.

There is plenty of room in this tent, hubby is 6ft 4 and still can stand without knocking his head. The guylines can be seen very easy. My son is coloured blind and has walked into others. This is definitely a tent I would recommend to all families.

I love our tent! Easy to put up and take down. Big enough for our family of five, and even with nine of us in there it wasn't too cramped. Invaluable extras on ours is the porch, which stops the rain coming in thought the doors when unzipping. ( not a problem with newer models as they have a canopy over the door) the footprint groundsheet and carpets are a godsend! all in all probably one of the best purchases we've made.

We bought this tent as novice campers last year and it has been a great buy. We use it mainly as a family of 4 with our teenage children having a pod each and we have the large one. This gives us plenty of room for our belongings. Eight people sleeping in this tent would be quite a squeeze. The large living area is great for cool evenings as it easily fits a table and chairs. We read reviews before buying and took the advice to get the footprint groundsheet and the carpet. These have been invaluable and make life a lot easier and more comfortable. We also have the tent canopy which gives a really useful sheltered area for taking off shoes, cooking etc. And protects the doorways from the rain in bad weather. Overall this is a great family tent which I would definitely recommend.

Just had our first family camping weekend in this tent which we bought while on holiday in Devon over the summer(you should have seen the car driving back to Sheffield).

We really like the tent - its a bit big for a weekend trip but we wanted to try it out. We bought the Callista green 2011 version (ex display but only on show for a week) but believe we really need the porch for extended trips ut they aren't available in that colour currently.

Plenty of space for everyone (we had the large bedroom and the boys each had a pod) and a nice central area for the evenings when the sun has gone down.

All in all we are really pleased with this tent after one trip - couldn't get it in the bag on site, but have usually managed when practising pitching at home.

We've had the tent for a year and have the matching porch, footprint and carpet. We have two small boys and this tent has lots of space inside for them in case it rains.

A huge living area means that even when my parents camped with us we still had lots of space for tables, chairs etc. The separate bedrooms didn't quite fit my parents two camp beds side by side so they had to have separate rooms but this wasn't too much of a problem as putting up /down the bedrooms is so easy that we took one down during the day.

When it's just the four of us we all sleep in the large bedroom – plenty of room and keeps the rest of the tent free!

It's well worth having the porch to keep wet shoes/boots in and to cook in.

The carpet keeps us warm and toasty.

Not sure that the footprint is worth it (rain got between the SIG and the footprint on a stormy night) but it does make it easier to pack up at the end of the stay as it keeps the mud off.

The tent did leak through the material after a 24 hour storm but it was very wet and windy. We had rather a cheap deal off eBay so although I think it was listed as new perhaps the tent may have been an ex-demo one and so may have been out in the elements before we bought it (although it did look immaculate when we first got it out of the bag).

Getting the main tent back into the bag is a real task – you really have to make sure all the air is out if the material while rolling. I use straps to help but it's a struggle when you're doing it on your own!

I've pitched this on my own with no problems… my long arms may have helped though! I managed to split one of the poles when putting it up once but this was replaced easily.

Lovely tent! I bought the 2011 tent, side porch, carpet and footprint as a first large family tent at a bargain price which left me quids in compared to hiring a static for 1 week! The tent was nice and roomy, plenty of space in the living area for 4 adults and 3 kids, the carpet was a cosy addition, made it feel warm and homely. The side porch is big enough for a kitchen unit, cooker, table, pram, boots, toys and anything else you need to put in there, it also made the frame a lot sturdier against the Welsh elements. I highly recommend the footprint, the underside stayed clean and dry and made packing up so much easier, no mud or water to clean off when you get home, just clean and dry the footprint! The tent did flap around a bit in strong winds before we put the porch on but nothing came off or broke and the porch held the whole tent firm in place. We had an almighty storm the one night and the only drips we had were from a blown open zipper flap. The tent does lack Velcro on the zip flaps and doors so its worth investing in some self adhesive velcro tabs for various places. Easy for 2 to put up, around 40 mins and only took 2 attempts to put it back in the bag. As a few people have said, the porch does have a gap between it and the tent so position the ground sheet and your stuff carefully in the porch in case of rain. There is no zip along the bottom of the end door which it could do with as you can see the grass poking up behind the ground sheet, didn't really cause any problems just would have been better zipped. Each of the sleeping pods are plenty big enough for double mattresses or 2 singles and you can take them down for added living space if required. Over all, a great tent! It is a budget tent so some of the stitching was a bit shabby in places and a few bits didn't line up properly (velcro on flaps and an elastic on 1 bedroom was too short) but nothing too major, with a little care should last for many family holidays! I've added a few pictures, its brown (I didn't want a blue tent, too cold!)
