Great tent when it's up but such a pain to pitch, the cross poles create FAR too much tension and I've had to replace several sections of pole due to this and the exceptionally poor quality of the poles.
I echo the comments about the leaks but a dose of Fabsil in the offending areas cured the problem. Come on Gelert - could have done better with this one! We also have the Atlantis 5 which suffers none of the Ottowa's problems

After a few years in an excellent Quechua tent from Decathalon, I upgraded to a 'name' brand and chose an Gelert Ottawa 4. The main selling point was the huge headroom in the living section enabling me at 6'2' to stand upright. The first time out and tent was a little tricky to erect, the main cross-over poles are hugely long (especially for one person) and very flexible and aren't very strong. Having now read the other reviews, I'm not surprised there have been breakages. Anyhow, once the tent is up, it's a great design with some nice touches. 3 doors are useful (surely one could have been a canopy door though?) and the opening bedroom window is unique. The storage rack is neat and useful and the tent is roomy, light and airy. However on my first trip away in anger, a rainy week in August '10 in Looe, Cornwall, I quickly learned the tents main shortcoming. Leaks. Admittedly it rained and blew solidly for 26 hours straight but there were continuous drips from the main pole over the front door leaving a large puddle to be mopped up in the living area, and numerous from the rings that support the bedroom. The water didn't actually enter the bedroom but could be seen wetting and running down the outside of the white flyscreen at 5 different places. I bought some seam-sealer once the weather abated and applied it liberally. This I suspect rendered the tent unsellable as a 2nd hand buy if I upgrade again! However I didn't expect to be performing surgery on a £150 tent on its first outing but needs must. This appeared to do the trick and I'm going to apply a full can of Fabsil when the tent is next pitched this easter.
One of the advantages of a 'name' tent is the available accessories. Over the winter I've since bought the genuine Gelert footprint groundsheet, fitted carpet and extra canopy for over the front door (all new and at well under MRP on e-bay) and I approach this camping season with renewed enthusiasm. We're not made of sugar after all!

This is a great tent and for the £105 paid last winter is an absolute bargain. We use this for two and it is ideal - plenty of bedroom space, good living space and there's great features too. Head height is not a problem. The tidy pockets come in useful, there's more than adequate ventilation for those hot days and when it's wet and windy the tent has proved to be sturdy to. If there is a criticism then it must be pitching time - it's not that quick due to the amount of pegging out required - that said the pegging out is all important and done properly this is a very flexible tent - combination of entries, ventilation etc. The cross poles take some getting used to and it'll take a couple of pitches to get the knack. Wouldn't use this tent for two night stays but 3 or more - ideal.

Having owned the Ottawa 4 since December, it has been nothing but trouble with the poles. They are so weak and split/crack at every chance. Part of this is due to the design of the tent which is difficult to erect even with 2 people, there is simply too much strain whilst you are putting all the poles together. I have already replaced sections once and now have to do it again, this tent has had 4 trips approx.
Now the design. Shape of the tent itself is very well thought out, just a shame about the rest of the tent. The living space is very roomy, allowing standing height in the porch and plenty of space for getting changed in the sleeping area. There are lots of windows for allowing light in, and at the back is a fully opening hatch which allows lots of fresh air into the tent for those warm sticky mornings.
Overall don't buy this tent, it is awkward to put up and the poles are so fragile. After just 6 months or so of ownership im going to give up and buy a Vango.

We got ours at a very good price (£100) due to last one in the shop, and they needed the space for new season items.
Nice tent for long weekends. Easy to erect, full groundsheet, netting on windows and entrance. Bedroom area was ok for two, but would not like to use it for 4 people. May be a tad cramped. Living area was spacious enough for our needs: chairs table, and shelving unit for our cookers and provisions.
Slight condensation overnight, but nothing overly bad.
We had heavy rain one night, and the tent faired well with no leaks anywhere.
Will be using it again in November, so we shall then see how it holds up in bad weather.

I camp on my own and I need a tent I can stand up in (stiff knees). There wasn't much choice of small tents that met this criterion, and after considerable research I chose this one as the reviews implied it was easy to erect. Yesterday I tried a pre-trip trial run.
The two long poles were indeed very unwieldy and if my daughter had not been there to help I doubt I could have managed it on my own. Once up, I was extremely impressed by the quality and attention to detail. I have yet to try it out (am off to North Yorks Moors next week) but I expect it to perform as well as others have said it does.
I think that I will eventually work out how to put it up on my own, but it will be a struggle.

We have a Horizon 8 tent which is great and I love it but its more for the longer camping trip or there’s more people than me and my son. I wanted to get something smaller for the quick weekend trips away and already loving my Horizon 8 I decided the Gelert was the way to go again and opted for the Ottawa 4. With the tent I got the footprint, carpet and the sun canopy – the footprint makes for easy positioning, the carpet makes it cosy and the canopy is great for the kitchen and stowing chairs etc at night. There’s a knack to putting it up though – can be a bit tricky with the cross section but practice will make perfect I’m sure! Space wise, it’s good, I can stand in it which is important for me being tall. I’m not sure it would house 4 and leave any room but it’s perfect for the 2 of us for a weekend. No leaks and great ventilation, great tent from Gelert again!

We have used this tent five time to date and we now consider ourselves as being pretty proficient at erecting it now. The first time provided some entertainment to the locals when we holidayed in France; we should have practised at home first. Overall, we have found this tent to be excellent with plenty of room for the two of us. The only drawer back is that the length of several of the poles are very long and putting these through the sleeves in poor weather conditions can be a big challenge, especially when we have to raise it in windy conditions but once up it is very strong and has withheld everything thrown at it so far. We would advise you, however, to use the template which saves a lot of time and also gives extra protection to the fitted ground sheet.

First time camping for many years so wanted something light to handle but with enough room to stand up in and a separate sleeping area. At £90 it was a reasonable price we thought.
Ticked all the boxes, only slight criticism is the length of the poles make them a bit unwieldy on a windy day, but we are getting the hang of it now, and there are odd drips from the side window panels!
Of course if it was a calm dry day there would be no problem as it is great to be able to open all the sides for flyproof ventilation.

Just got back from a weekends camping in Porthmadog, we had a glorious day on sat but v v high winds on Sunday and torrential rain - the tent stood up to it very well and stayed dry. The only casualty was a snapped rubber - but I cannot stress enough how strong those winds were - very impressed
