Bought this tent due to down sizing from a huge six person dome. Spent a week in Wales August 2010; absolutely no problems with all the weather thrown at us. Recommend you buy a foot print and tent carpet for extra luxury. Some may find it a little small for five people, we are a couple and it suited us fine. Like many have said a bargain when bought in the sales.

Used this tent all summer with no problems. Can be put up easily in 10 mins and packed away in the same time. Never leaked even during heavy rain and felt sturdy enough on windy nights. Room enough for 4 adults to sit round a table in the living area and plenty of room for 4 in sleeping area. A real bargain for £79.99, you could spend more on a tent but the Caplan 5 does it all for less. Would definitely recommend.

Nice size tent but I would say its to small for 5 people.Agree with using velcro for the side door, this should also have the toggle fastenings on like the front.
Also another bonus with this is you get windows but I would love to of had on on the main door so when inside if raining or windy you could still be able to see what was going on around you
Very easy to put up and take down

Having used this tent myself with my family & dog. I found it to be extremely spacious & warm at night. Space enough for two double mattresses in the sleeping area with more than enough space in the main living area for equipment & to move around freely. This tent is simple to erect & sturdy enough to withstand the wind & kids messing around without wrecking it. The brightly coloured guy lines are a godsend that prevents tripping in the night when venturing out. I would recommend this tent for anyone starting out camping or for more experienced campers. 100% value for money & a real asset. Not as heavy as some tents I have used in the past. I would definitely buy another if need be. Well done Hi-Gear.

I agree with the majority of previous reviews, tent is excellent in use, but the small omission of velcro on the side door, although minor, is a niggle. On the whole though, I would recommend this as an excellent value for money item. Plenty of room and very stable in high winds.
More than adequate space, could almost open end and park car!

We bought this tent in june as it was on offer at go outdoors for £79 we were looking at the atakama 5 but with a small dog we knew it would escape as the ground sheet was not sewn in so that and the price made us choose the caplan.
We pitched the tent in the garden so we could see what we would be faced with when we did finally go camping for the first time I was amazed at how easy it was to pitch and took just 20mins.
We finally went camping two weeks ago and were very happy with the tent it was rather wet and windy on the Friday but we soon had the tent up and the dog thought it was fun to run around inside while we were setting up the guylines. There was plenty of room inside for all our stuff and the dog had room to play too but he did manage to find the only way to escape which was via the side door which has no way to secure to the fly sheet unlike the front door which really could do with being improved, the bedroom kept us really warm at night and both mornings we woke up we had to open the door up to cool off as we were too hot, the wind and rain helped to test the tent and sadly while the tent stood up to the wind sadly we did have two leaks one on the side window and one on the side door while the leaks were not really that bad but I could not help but think that we would wake up to a flooded tent, we were lucky as it did rain most of the night but it the morning there were only two small wet patches. I will be taking the tent back this weekend as I feel this should not happen to a new tent and don't see why I should have to pay for any sealers as I did email the go outdoors team and they said the tent did not need to be sealed as that was done already by the manufacturer.
So in all a great tent plenty of room to live and sleep I would only say its a 4 berth tent 5 at a push

Just returned from a weekend away in very high winds. Although we feared the worse ( as several tents had collapsed on the coastal site) the Caplin 5 withstood the gale force winds we had to endure. Unfortunately, one pole split but we did manage to take the tent down asap to prevent more damage.
There were a dozen tents collapse on the site over the last couple of days (but we noticed all the High Gear tents were still standing). Although, we did not know if any were subject to wind damage.
My only gripe with the Caplin is the side door flaps open at the bottom, did try stick on velcro but would not stick, will have to stitch it on. The front opening has a better fastening system at the bottom. Otherwise I am happy with my £79 bargain from Go Outdoors.

Bargain from Go Outdoors at just £79.99. Just the two of us and a jack russell so plenty of room. Two double airbeds and there's still room in the sleeping area.
Experienced heavy rain one evening in Wales, with no problems at all - very impressed with our buy. Our first tent! so we were impressed at how easy it was to pitch and take down.

We wanted a tent big enough for 2 adults and two dogs, and this fitted the bill perfectly. It was on special at Go Outdoors for £79.99, which seemed a bargain. Especially liked the idea that you can have the bedroom door fully closed or just use the mosquito net. It has one large bedroom and living area, and you can stand up in both. Plenty of room for us, but it would be a bit small for 5 people, 3 or 4 at the most. Easy enough to pitch and take down. It also comes with two poles to turn the door flap into a canopy. It was very windy, which was no problem for the tent, but no rain, so we'll have to wait and see!
It would have been nice if the side door had Velcro at the bottom, but we can solve that, otherwise 10/10.

I have bought this tent a week ago and love it. Its so easy to pitch with just 3 poles outer first then bedroom is toggle fitted so your protected with SIG and bedroom groundsheet as well took about 20 mins for me to put up on my own in the garden. I camped in it for two nights and it rained one of them but I was bone dry. I have two double airbeds in the room with plenty of room. And living space good size can easily fit four chairs and table in. Also can stand in both rooms really airy with the two doors and the windows with mesh at top. Cant wait to go camping properly in 3 weeks. I got this on offer for £75 from go outdoors its brill. It is still up in the garden kids are in and out of it.

It's pitched outer-first to keep things simple, and has a breathable inner to keep you comfortable in the summer heat.
The outer flysheet, with taped seams, is easily waterproof enough to handle heavy downpours, while front and side entrances let you block the wind and rain from getting in. The fully sewn-in groundsheet makes it easy for you to keep a clear, clean space for you and your gear, and keeps water, draughts and bugs out of your tent.
