Bought a Rock 5 at sale price of £149. Much easier than our Zenobia and can be pitched in less than 30 mins. No leaks even when camping in torrential rain at a festival. We use both bedrooms and use living area for storage. Good vents, cover up windows and room to accommodate table a couple of fold up chairs and an inflatable sofa and armchair! Would rate this 9 out of ten as its the best tent we have ever had!

Just used my Rock 5 for it's first camping trip. And overall I am really impressed with it.

I am a solo camper (with a dog)so this tent gave me plenty of room. But as is the norm, it would be tight for 5 adults.

I decided to use the dividing curtain in the sleeping area. I slept in the 3 berth side, and used the 2 berth area as a storage space.

I did notice that the dividing curtain is some what see through. All be it only slightly, and dependant on light etc.

This may not be a problem for younger children with their parents etc. But may be one, for older children (teens) or say brother/sister/an in law etc who may want a bit more privacy.

Having never had a tent with a dividing curtain before. This element of being slightly see through may be the norm across many tents. But thought I would mention it, despite it not be overly see through.

I had a few strong gusts during my 2 night stay. The tent coped well with these, and didn't cause me any concern that it may collapse etc.

The living area is spacious, and has enough windows to allow enough daylight in. And the storage pockets, lantern hanging point, cable access point, and cable tidy/velco (for electric light) are all handy features.

Plenty of headroom throughout the tent for someone who is 5ft 8 like myself. Though, if like me you are more used to backpacking/smaller tents. It will take a while to cotton on to the fact, you don't need to crawl out of the sleeping pod hehe.

During my pre-trip hose pipe tests (only done as my tent was a returned tent bought via ebay) I did notice water did collect above the bedrooms. This is something that other reviewers have commented on, so I am confident this was not due to a pitching error. And can see that being a problem during heavy downpours.

The only bad point (apart from the above) is putting the poles through the sleeves. The metal points on the poles seem to get caught on the eyelets of the sleeves themselves. This can slow down the time taken to erect and strike camp. Though, to be honest it is not that great a delay. And may indeed be less of a problem for 2 people erecting/striking.

Having been pitched next to a Mojave 5 this week, I got to compare what was my 2nd choice, with the Rock 5. If the Rock 5 had the same sleeve/clip combo for the poles, that the Mojave has, I'd give it a 10 out of 10.

But due to the problem with the eyelets, and the possible problem with water collecting above the bedrooms. I have marked it down slightly, and have given the tent a 9 out of 10.

I decided to buy a tent with a sewn in ground sheet, as I like to take my grandchildren camping, and wanted to keep out creepy crawlies and draughts. I liked the layout of the tent so much that I decided to buy the canopy for a bit of luxury for myself. The tent and canopy stood up to the horrendous weather that we had last summer. Bring on the camping season.

I bought this tent as an upgrade from my trusty Atakama 5 as I fancied a sewn in groundsheet. After looking at a few I decided on the rock 5. I love everything about this tent. I love it's size, the bedroom divider that zips all the way round, the pockets, the door configurations, the sewn in bedroom sections. It's a doddle to pitch on my own, takes about 20 mins, I even went back and bought the footprint to protect my purchase. However there is a massive BUT coming. It leaks even in showers. Let me explain. I used my tent twice, firstly on a beautifully sunny and dry week in Nidderdale, fantastic, second time on a damp weekend on the east coast of Yorkshire. Early morning there were a couple of sharp showers, nothing scary, just two or three bursts of heavy rain that lasted for less than 10 minutes each. After returning from the shower block I found my little boy running to meet me saying 'mummy it's flooding' I hurried back to find that the roof above the bedroom had sagged in the rain and was touching the inner bedroom section which acted as a wick and we had water drip drip dripping all over our beds. Now it was not 'flooding' as my little boy had stated but was pretty wet. I had tensioned the guys perfectly and the fly was as tight as a drum prior to the rain, the sagging was unavoidable and because the bedroom was sewn in (a feature I had previously been impressed with) I couldn't take it down to stop the wick effect. So it was with heavy heart that I returned my Rock 5 to Go Outdoors and explained the problem. I was offered a refund without much question as the chap said it was a recognised fault on the tent. What a shame such a nice tent should be let down by such a fundamental design fault.

Recently bought this as a weekend tent (plus canopy) due to owning a Idaho XL that is just too big to put up for a weekend away.

We tested the tent out for a week in cheddar (2 adults, 2 children + dog) and had mixed results during the week.

Pitching the tent is relatively easy, however the poles we found got snagged easily when pushing them through.

For a family of four the space is adequate but we have lots of camping equipment and had difficulty squeezing it all in - we ended up having the children sleep in the bigger sleeping compartment, the clothes and kit in the smaller sleeping area leaving me, the wife and dog to sleep in the main living area. It worked well but prefer sleeping in the sleeping pods.

I would agree that there does seem to be a design fault with this tent in that the outer skin of the tent does tend to touch the inner sleeping areas at the top when it rains. Although it chucked it down we never had water coming in, although we had to use various methods to try and tighten the outer tent, again with mixed results - we will as mentioned before use tape. The problem could be easily avoided if there was a central top guy line at the rear of the tent.

Overall it isn't a bad tent, not the best we have owned but certainly not the worst. If it wasnt for the outer skin issue the rating would have been a lot higher.

Fab tent. Upgraded from a small 4 berth which you couldn't stand up in so this was luxury. Took about 15 mins to erect. Weather was very windy and the tent was fine, no problems even when it rained heavily. Loads of space in the bedroom, we had 2 adults and 2 children. Spacious living area. Would definitely recommend!

Total fail. Used over last weekend at oulton park. Was easy to put up on Thursday afternoon. Thursday night it started to rain and I noticed a few spots of water on the inner tent which got larger and started dripping into the inner tent. The roof panel was touching the inner tent hence the leaks. Tensioned the guylines and even moved the poles to try and give better tension to stop the roof panel touching the inner tent but did not work. Went to marshal the bsb on track on Friday never stopped raining all day and found the tent flooded out. The side walls of the tent was tensioned right but the roof panel was drooping still on the inner tent. Used some tents tape to tighten the panel up to the back pole and this solved the problem. Shame this had not been spotted before I got it by go outdoors quality control.Otherwise its a very large tent with plenty of space.

Owned a smaller tent and saw this one on offer. Used it for the first time this weekend and it is fabulous! A very windy campsite with downpours (poles cracking under pressure on other tents). With two children on canvas camp beds either side and a double blow up bed in the middle for two adults it was great. Sleeping compartment more than ample for our needs and does split into two bedrooms. Initially we couldn't zip the bedroom closed but a minor adjustment to the pegging of the poles and this was sorted out. All in one tent easy to erect. Living area great big enough for all of the food bags, 4 canvas camp chairs and a table. Handy pockets in the living area for storing things we usually lose! The sewn in ground sheet made it much warmer when it was very windy and rainy. We laid a box standard blue ground sheet under the tent before pitching which kept the actual tent free from mud and made it warmer underfoot. The fact that the doors can open out to make a dry area for cooking was fab too we had ours strapped onto a wind break but have been so impressed with this tent that we have purchased the canopy and blanket carpet to match the tent.

The rock 5 is a tent I simply love. Easy to pitch in about 30 min. Tent has stitched in inner tent so you save time and interior won't get wet in case raining. Has two bedrooms. Ideal for 2-3 people. It is a sturdy tent if pegged correctly you don't have a problem even during strong winds. Livings space is generous for small family. I can confirm it is really wind and waterproof. Giving 9/10 as there are many tents on the market and some are probably better than this but not necessary for the same money. It is a good buy and value for money

This is our first family tent (moving up from a 3 man dome), so we don't have much to compare it to. We found it really easy to put up, even while trying to keep an eye on two small children. There's loads of room and well laid out. Nice light living room and plenty of room for our family of four in the bedroom (although would definitely be a squeeze for 5 adults). Cheap and cheerful.

Manufacturer's Description

A spacious family sized 5 person tent with a large bedroom and porch, ideal for small families and getaways.

5 Berth Family Tent
All in one pitching style
Taped seams - no leaks

The Hi Gear Rock 5 is a flexible family tent for families or couples looking for extra room. The tent and bedroom are separate parts that are permanently attached with a mesh panel, so you get the benefits of reduced condensation without the hassle of fitting the inners every time you pitch the tent. Couple this with the sewn in groundsheet and taped flysheet and you have a draft and insect free space that will keep you dry, even in prolonged rain.

The bedroom can be divided into 2 and a 3 person rooms with a central curtain, and the tall windows in the front allow lots of light into the living area. The doors to the front and side can be converted to awnings with awning poles (sold separately).

A great tent for first time campers or those who want a simple and roomy tent for weekends away.
