I have owned other Dome tents and found that it never looks the same as displayed until I bought this fantastic tent. As others say it is the most easy tent to erect and my wife and I try to beat the putting up time and this weekend down to 6 mins. We have bought the extension and that has made an amazing difference in space and no more extra payment for gazebos. It is the Khyam classic annexe, there are very different prices, mine was about £129. To most campers it looks like all-in-one tent

Several years of use have proven the XL to be one hell of a tent. I love the quick erect system. Without wind one person can easily put up in 15 mins and be sat having a beer whilst watching others struggle.

Always fancied a Rigi-pod after this but they have stopped making it. Why??

Ours is the burgundy version. Very dark inside (Hence 8 out of 10).

The new colours look poor.

The wife wants to change to an Outwell (more space and better colours!) but am very reluctant. If the size and colour suit you they are marvellous.

Honestly that first beer feeling is magnificent with this tent. If we do get an Outwell I will continue to put the Khyam up in the garden and sleep in it myself.

What a fantastic tent the Khyam Classic xl is. The rapidex system makes the tent easy and quick to erect.

The large number of guys keep this tent firmly stuck to the ground in the worst of conditions. It has plenty of headroom and sleeps 4 side by side in a split inner tent. It is perfect for couples and small families.

The only drawback is that the side door zip stops 2 inches short of the bottom due to the tension in the tent canvas and nothing I did would coax it down. The tent is big enough for 4 to sit round a table but if you have a lot of gear it can get a bit cramped.

9 out of 10 for me!

Our much loved XXL (slightly bigger thatn the XL) has now gone - passed on to someone whose children will enjoy the space (our children don't want to come with us any more trailing round chateaux and musees - I can't understand why not?). I can't talk highly enough of this tent tho - it took longer to get it out of the car than it did to put it up. Quickly pegged down, pole up the bedrooms and we're on holiday! I can't relate to some of the reviews of the rigidome system as we used this tent for years and never doubted the stability or had to replace any joints on the poles despite sometimes adverse weather conditions. However it may be the later models are not so well made - I don't know. I do know that we are replacing our tent with the Kyham XL as we are reassured by the quality. We have considered the Chatsworth but don't really like the idea of a sewn in groundsheet; the Wayfarer is a bit too flimsy. So, really looking forward to the hols next year - put the tent in the car and just go!

The XL that we own is actually the forerunner of this version (burgundy coloured). Our version is made with rather heavier flysheet material (5000mm head) and has slightly different door design (zip both sides rather than 'J'). If it's not too windy I can pitch it singlehanded in 15 mins fully pegged. The 'quick erect' system really is very simple. If it is windy then the provided DVD shows how to pitch safely, takes slightly longer but it works. The only thing to be wary of when erecting is to make sure none of the cloth gets trapped in any of the hinges.

The tent has proved to be totally 'bomb proof' when properly erected. We have sat out some horrendous storms in different parts of UK/Europe and have never had a moments worry about the integrity of the tent. We use it to sleep 2 adults in utter luxury. Our 2 (old)kids now use 'pups' but we can all eat/socialise in the XL living area if the weather is foul.

The downside to the quick erect system is the weight and size of the packed carry bag, I suspect the old version is rather heavier/larger than the current version which is itself rather larger than equivalent sized tents of other designs.

Our tent has now had 8 years heavy use and is still (nearly) as good as new. If you can pick up an older design, go for it. Otherwise the current design should be equally convenient if not quite so 'bomb proof'.

Excellent quality and at 20 kg not too heavy and bulky for carrying or squeezing into boot.Passed with flying colours during a torrential rain filled blustery night in Scotland.Just fine for a couple with 2 small children, will up-size though when children get older. Also bought an annexe the following month for extra space for longer trips ,should maybe of went for the bigger version but definitely still the quick erect system, it was so much easier than the other tent's that I've had in the past.No fitted groundsheet included so you'll need to buy one as well

Comes with a dvd which I recommend people to watch before trying to erect.I had a go at erecting it in the garden and I was glad I did after arriving at our first campsite to find the wind was howling.Got the tent up eventually.Next morning 2 windbreak poles had snapped but the tent survived unscathed.Lots of room in the living area looked at a few tents before buying this one the quality is second to none and can even buy the annexe to increase its versatility.Very pleased with it.
