First new tent we have bought for many years,so we spent a lot of time making sure we got it right.

Just got back from 3 days in Cayton Village, 1 windy day then 8 hours of rain, then sunshine.

It took 25mins to put up at a steady pace, not bad when you take into account that Im blind and an unfit 57 year old, and my much younger wife is a natural blond! Could see that 15mins is possible.

As many suspect the slab shape does bounce the fibre poles about, I put 4 extra guy ropes on the poles which improves things a lot, the steel poled area is very stable.

8 hours of east coast rain pushed the tent to the limit, and it leaks,mainly under where the steel poles are, quite a lot of seams in this area, also in all 4 corners, though only a small amount there. I am hoping that this is just the fabric proofing itself. The trouble with bathtub groundsheets is once the rains in it doesn't flow back out.

After waking up very sweaty the first sunny morning we unzipped the bottom 2 foot of the outer doors which made it a lot fresher the next morning.

Teething troubles I hope because the design is fantastic, with just the 2 of us 1 bedroom to sleep in and 1 as a loo and store, the rest of the tent! well the wife thinks she could park the car in it, we cooked in it and may buy one of those inflatable settees and chair sets and still park the car in it.

Paid Ł257 and think its a lot of tent for the money

Update on my review.

The Sandwood has been up in the garden for 5 days now and during that time it got quite breezy and we had two days of non stop quite heavey rain. The tent stood up to the wind well but I have noticed a couple of leaks inside. These seem to be where loops etc are stitched into the seams(a common problem), not major as it is more of a case of seeping water than a leak but a bit irritating. A little bit of seam sealant worked into the affected areas should solve the problem. As far as the rest of the tent, the fabric of the tent has not shown any signs of leaks (5000 HH after all!) and the seams are watertight (other than the loops mentioned earlier).

One other thing is the front of the tent is a bit 'slab' sided and although the tent seems quite stable so far I could imagine that a strong wind into the front of the tent would cause the front fibreglass pole to bend significantly. There are two guys at the front but these wouldnt stop the front pole bending in and downwards, the tent would have benefited from a third guy in the middle at the front! Talking of guys though, there are four spare guy ropes included with the tent!

Even with the slight leaks and (potential) problem with the guys at the front, I still think that you cannot beat this tent considering the price, we paid Ł279 for it and considering you get steel poles, acres of space inside and a third bedroom if required it is excellent value for money!

We have just bought this tent and first impressions are very impressive. We haven't been on a trip yet but have put it up in the garden so this is more an initial review!

I managed to put the tent up on my own (as the wife was at work) and it took me just over half an hour. Lichfield say it should take around 15 mins, so with two people after you are used to it I could see this as a realistic (if tight) time.

The Sandwood seems very stable, probably from the use of steel poles, supplemented by fibreglass poles attached via pins to the main poles which extends the back and front of the tent to give extra headroom. This actually works very well and gives extremely good headroom, I am nearly 6ft and my head is nowhere near the roof when standing inside. This also leads me onto the internal space which is extremely roomy. There are two double bedrooms at the back each of which can be individually removed if required with the option of a third (included) bedroom in the living area, with the third bedroom in place the tent still feels surprisingly roomy but without it it is postively cavernous.

All the modern comforts you expect from a 2011 tent are present, ie sown in ground sheet, cable entry point etc, and as I say the tent seems extremely stable.

Access is via large doors with separate mesh at the front and both sides, the side doors are also protected by canopies which will be a godsend when getting in and out of the tent in the rain.

We are a family of three (5 year old daughter) and this tent fits the bill perfectly with plenty of living space but also speedy to put up. Certainly the tent would swallow a family of four with ease, and even for 5/6 person families this would still fit the bill even though the third optional bedroom does eat into the living space, this third bedroom could always be removed during the day to provide more space for larger families as it can be very quickly unclipped and stored.

The only downsides I can think of at the moment would be the size of the packed tent. This comes in a large (wheeled) soft type suitcase measuring 78cm x 51cm x 51cm so not small and certainly not light at 25kg. This size can be reduced a little by removing the third bedroom (if not required) and packing the poles separately as they come in their own bag. Also, while the two windows at the front are better than I thought they would be, the tent would benefit from maybe a window in the doors.

All in all, first impressions are a great tent!
