We have only used our Ohio XL twice but love it already. It's pretty straightforward to pitch (2 of us), has loads of space, is really light and airy feeling - the ceiling is so high that we had to stand on a box to clip in the kids room - and the built in canopy is the perfect storage area for kitchen etc.

We like the quirky design having the bedrooms down one side instead of at the back of the tent, it allows for lots of full height living space which is great for a family.

As mentioned in previous reviews the front and back doors offer an excellent airflow when both open, plus there's a huge mesh panel at the front making the tent very bearable in hot weather and keeping the bedrooms nice and cool too.

The private dressing area is an excellent idea or adds extra space for kids sleepovers/visitors. The main bedroom easily fits a queen size high inflatable bed.

The carpet is lovely underfoot and we wouldn't be without the footprint to keep the underside of the tent clean.

For us the only drawback in this tent is the lack of power entry points - whilst there is one at the front it would have been nice to have the option of the back or side of the tent as well. Only a personal preference though and wouldn't put us off buying this excellent tent again!

We purchased the Ohio XL at the end of 09 season, after reading many reviews of family tents. The Outwell stood out from the crowd and I was drawn to the tunnel tents due to the spacious living areas offered above the dome tents. Our first holiday proved somewhat difficult at first, as we attempted in gale force coastal winds to erect the tent. Persistence and quick pegging ensured we stabilised the tent enough to secure all sections of the Ohio. We then ran around tidying up the chords and aligning the tent correctly.

All in all, we were impressed and have learnt a few tricks to speed it up next time. The tent itself is fantastic and I would easily recommend this model to any family. The large living space means that all the family don't feel cramped on those wintery days. Ours stood up to strong wind and rain during our trip and some of my neighbours were experiencing puddles of water whilst our tent remained dry.

I would say though that the online instructions about putting up the canopy first may be flawed - in high winds and when there is only 2 of you, I would erect from the back first, using the footprint to help align the tent on the pitch.

And one more thing - the openings front and rear proved useful on hot sunny days to allow a breeze through the tent and for us to enjoy the sun both morning and afternoon on our pitch

We have just bought this tent and went away for the weekend to try it for the first time . Previously we had a tunnel tent by Kyham and were very pleasantly surprised just how easily this tent was to put up !. It took my wife and me around 30 minutes to put the Ohio XL up. Once the carpet was in this look and feels like a very grand tent. Loads of room and packed with storage and pockets. The kids loved their bedroom and its safe to say we are absolutely delighted with it. BEST YET - taking it down (We got a bit of advice from someone on this site to use the ground sheet pegs as marks for folding the tent up ) It all packed away just fine. A superb tent well worth the money !. The awning is on the shopping list .

We love this tent takes two of us approx 50 mins to put it up using the you tube clip (we are novices). Its big and comfortable. We had some high winds and rain and the tent didnt budge despite not being pegged down properly due to hard ground. Its easy to take down doing the opposite of putting it up and the extension is great for cooking etc. Def a 10 out 1o would recommend it to anyone!

Well we purchased this tent after going to loads of camping shows and shops we needed a tent large enough for us both plus 3 kids even if the weather turned bad.

We used the tent in August 09 in Wales.

We also purchased the optional front extension to give more living space. Near the end of our holiday the weather turned for the worse with moderate winds and some rain (well it is the UK).

With two days to go the front extension gave way snapping in moderate winds at the top centre and severe bending of the poles were the roof pole joins the side poles this was due to a serious design flaw in our opinion as the tent is over 5m wide and does not have any guy points on the front at the top. At this price range and from such a well established company this should not happen and the response from Outwell after I emailed them well over 3 months later and still waiting for a reply. This was not the only fault though the front hanging rails hook ends push through the webbing straps and then rubbed against the main tent front wall and after less than two weeks use they have almost worn through the tent fabric.

Needless to say we returned the tent to the shop and now own a Sprayway tent which we will review next year after using it, but regret selling our Sunncamp 12XP.

The OHIO XL has the potential to be one of the best and most versatile tents on the market but not till Outwell sort out these problems and would make an excellent tent for a family of 4 or 5 who like a bit of luxury.

If it did not have the above defects then it would easily score 8 or 9 and possibly even score 10 but the tent is just too expensive to ignore basic design/manufacturing flaws you would expect you might have to put up with on a cheap £100 family tent when this tent and extension costs over £900.

We love this tent! After much research we decided this was the best tent for our budget. We have just come back from our first family trip beyond the back garden! What a pleasure. As the previous review when I have my brain in gear it takes about 45 minutes to pitch and differently takes two. (we did practice in the garden several times as I am new to all this camping lark) My husband however is a little worried about pitching it in the wind as it is massive and quite heavy for me to lift.

Lots of space inside for all your camping gear and kids toys and plenty of room inside when its raining and I like the front bit so you can get the kids out of the rain and shoes off before you go into the tent without getting wet.

We have two little ones both under 3 years old and to my dismay you can not have the sleeping quarters next to each other open together, however we have changed the layout a little with the help of my mums sewing skills! We moved the 2 berth sleeping pod into the middle and attached velcro to both zips so we can have one big sleeping quarter. Once they get a little older we can change it back. (mad I know but I just felt more comfortable having them next to me at night)

All in all we are very please with this tent and can't wait to get out there camping again!

Where do I start first pitching, this tent needs 2 adults to erect and takes about 45mins to get it perfect if erected like Yeomans youtube clip it is neither difficult or heavy and fits on most site pitches with ease, we use electric hook up.

Once up this tent is amazing both in design and space, you could easily sleep 8 people and the walk in wardrobe doubles as a changing room.

We last used end of August although mostly good weather we had a day one night and day of horrific wind and rain and the tent took it all(I was afraid before buying of the fixed canopy in high wind)totally solid and cosy.

We are a family of 5 and love this tent which we paid £499 plus we bought carpet, footprint and windbreak but beware our first tent had a patch in groundsheet and our retailer says this is common with Outwell(it was hard to see and they say acceptable) ours was swapped.

Highly recommend this tent expensive but luxurious.

Totally echo the comments of previous review, this is a great tent. The only downside really is that is is difficult to erect with 2 adults, especially in the wind and rain but once up its a superb tent. Does looks huge with the extension but is great for 4 people I would say without it. Supposed to have 3 and 2 person bedroom, you couldn't really get 3 people in, 2 in each would be max unless very small people. All in all different league to what we have had before, a real example of you get what you pay for, it is pricey but well worth it.

We bought this tent and extension so that we had plenty of space to sit when it rains or is chilly. The Ohio XL is HUGE with the extension and it is very very big even without it. We fit 6 adults, 4 children and a table in the extension quite comfortably. Inside, as you can see by our photos, even with 2 larders units and a table for the fridge there was still plenty of space for any other equipment that you want to take. There is plenty of headroom as you can see and the walk in wardrobe is fantastic.

We usually take 2 adults (me and OH) and 2 12 year old girls but our friend sometimes joins us so to have the option of the extra bedroom pod is a real plus point. It is a great tent and I highly recommend it for a family or a couple who like a lot of space. We had space for everything (and I mean everything as we are glampers not campers) and still had plenty of space for us, table and chairs.

The only thing I would say is that it is heavy and really needs 3 adults to erect it. We struggled with me and OH but after a few times I am sure that we will have it sussed.Certainly 1 person would not manage. All in all a fantastic tent with loads of room.

We have previously owed a Pro Action 9 man tent, Georgia XL, Michigan XL and this outshines them all.
