Hi, I recently bought a WL5 and just love it. After a couple of bad experiences over the last 2 years in a Coleman polyester 4-person tent (in which the bad weather nearly blew the tent away with us inside!), plus leakages, and insufficient space for 'living' inside when we had wet weather), I decided that upgrading our tent was a must - otherwise I'd have abandoned camping forever!

My criteria for a new tent was (a) no possible areas where rain could come in from the groundsheet door area, (b) something sturdier that could withstand the winds and not flap noisily in the winds and (c) a porch space for cooking no matter what the weather, or even sitting in when there is a gentle chilly breeze. I had taken shelter in a friend's Outwell Bear Lake 2 years ago and was incredibly impressed - I knew I wanted an Outwell as my next tent.

After much reading on this site, I began to realise the benefits of cotton canvas over polyester . So my choice was narrowed down to the Lakes or Rivers . And the Lakes seemed to be higher spec. After deciding on a Lake, it came down to 'which one'? I don't need the space of a WL 5-person tent as we are a family of only 2 even though we have enough camping gear for a family of 10! A 4-man tent such as BL4 would have been perfect but I was swayed toward the WL5 because of the full length porch, which the BL4 does not have, nor the Trout Lake. I also didn't want the angled front area of the Trout Lake as it means loss of internal space. So my choice was made and WL5 it had to be!

The WL5 has super space inside and the window configuration is great, so many options. The living room has plenty of space for a fridge, cupboard, table and chairs and room for my child to play inside on wet days or in the evenings. Also plenty of room for visitors who might want to come camping with us.

The footprint is very handy, and the carpet gives a really luxurious feeling in the tent. Its all just so lovely and cosy. The one (negative) thing that surprised me is that the front door and two front windows don't have the same configuration as the side windows/doors - i.E. The front door and windows do not have the mesh option, so in other words you either have the curtains UP, or if they are down you have to look out thru the plastic window . Looking thru mesh would have been nicer and I don't understand why the Outwell have designed the front windows/door this way, its my only negative and not a big deal, just a curious thing really.

Ease of Pitching: I am a slight woman and only 5'4' but I was able to pitch this solo, it wasn't easy, but it was manageable. Getting it up wasn't too hard once I had the first poles up (I followed Yeoman's utube way of erecting the front porch bit first)- after erecting the first poles, it then got easier and easier with each set of remaining poles. Pegging it out took a long time. Taking the tent down was not difficult solo either. However it was really hard work trying to get it back to pack-size and into the bag ad then loading it into the car. Really hard for me, but that's just because it was a solo job. I heard a lot about the WL5 packed size and weight, but I guess I was in 'denial' because I was so set on having a WL5 no matter what. But it is HUGE! I have a VW Gold Estate and the tent and pole bag take up the full boot space in my estate car. And so so heavy. Next year I might get a trailer so that all my camping gear can go into it and stored in it during the winter months too.

I reflect on how my camping has changed over the years. Ten years ago I was in a small little dome tent, no room for standing and it was all very minimal. Then I progressed into a 4-bed dome with living space and was able to get kitchen gear and cupboard, etc. And now I have an Outwell Wolf Lake 5 and also now have EHU . And I feel I have 'arrived' . It is really so luxurious and comfortable, that camping takes on a completely new meaning from how I camped ten years ago. I think the size/weight/pitching time of the WL will mean that I'll want to get a smaller wkend tent next year, and just use the WL for longer trips of a week or so at a time.

I love the WL5 and could not recommend it enough. Ideally would be good for 2 people to pitch and if somebody has plenty of car/trailer space.

Great tent though!

The WL5 is a great tent. It's very well designed and just the right size for 4. We used it in really bad weather last year - many tents blown off the campsite - 'Wolfie' was solid as a rock.

The size and weight are a factor - we have an estate car and if we have half the back seats down, we can pack for a small trip but with all four of us, we need to put it on the roof (separated into 3 big waterproof drybags). There's little room for other camping luxuries - we have to go with small sleeping bags, no duvets! However as a tunnel it's not difficult to put up, just a bit time consuming with all the pegs.

We tend to use the canopy for cooking under and if the wind/rain is from the wrong direction, we use a windbreak around the front. I am thinking of sewing an extra half-screen for this eventuality out of some canvas.

It's bigger than I am used to but when your friends all pile inside in the bad weather you are glad of it (we've had nine for breakfast!) We chose it to be stormproof and (hopefully) midgeproof for Scotland. It's light, airy, warm and spacious - no falling over each other.

I just find myself fancying a weekend tent that's a bit smaller - a small bell tent maybe.?

We bought our wolf lake 5 this year in August, we went away to the lakes for a week. All I can say is what a tent, it is fantastic, top class in every way. It stands up well and with the carpet it truly feels home from home. We have never looked back. My husband and I have no trouble in putting it up the instructions are very good. We also bought the matching windbreak - that as well is the best we have ever had.

We bought our Wolf Lake 5 from Yeomans early in 2009 over the phone. There didn't seem to be any trouble getting hold of it then.

9 rather than 10 out of 10 because of the weight and effort required to pitch. Other than that, for our family of only 3 it's as spacious and comfortable as we could want, with great shelter from the elements. Stood up well to some stiff breezes coming onshore at Cae Du this summer!

Not sure how warm it'll be during the cooler months, with all that mesh and ventilation and the polycotton. We used in early June and it was fine then. Wonder how it'd be in March in the UK - anybody know?

I've camped for the past 16 years and have had a variety of tents, but I must say that the Wolf Lake 5 is the best one I have ever had. Apart from it's weight, I have no quibbles about this tent at all. The first time we used it (Wales this Easter) there was a very windy night - the owner of the campsite told us the next morning that he was worried about how the tents were doing. The Wolf Lake did not even flicker! Another big plus is that because of the material, it is a much quieter tent than any polyester one. Would definitely recommend this tent to anyone.

Once I saw this tent I knew that I had to have it expensive that it is,wow what a tent. For a family of four this is ideal. Only down side is the size and weight. It's easy enough to erect, though it does take two ideally.

Bought this tent in May 2009 £800

It took me a few weeks to decide between the wolf lake5 and the bear 4 or 6. I went for the wolf lake as the bear 4 was slightly too small in the bedroom and the bear 6 too big. I also liked the idea of the full canopy. I have used the tent twice and I am very pleased with it. It was very hot and there was no shade around, were able to sit in the tent as the canvas keeps the tent much cooler then the nylon tents. The canopy is great to sit in if it is windy or wet, better than having to sit inside the tent.

It is a very large and heavy tent so if your car space is limited look at something different also it can not be put up by one person as it is too heavy to lift. I knew this before I bought it.

I packed it away with the ground sheet still zipped in, no problem, took the bedroom out though as I was worried it may get damaged during packing. Can't think of any bad points! Gave it 9 instead of 10 due to heaviness but I knew about that so should be 10 I suppose.

A great tent! As has already been said, you need two people to pitch ideally and although it looks simple it's worth watching the video/reading the instructions as if you do things in the wrong order it takes longer! Also is heavy! Other than that, was a great tent - loads of ventilation and window configs, used it over Easter in France this year and had quite a bit of rain, but not a drop inside and no condensation either.

We bought the footprint and carpet, the carpet was really useful, it really didn't feel like ground underneath and as got very cold at times it was very comfortable to walk around on.

Well worth the money, hope it lasts me a good few years as not cheap!

After hours of looking around just purchased this - Cant wait to use it - the quality looks awesome and the size / flexibility options look great - was swayed by the dimensions - solid build - looks - full canopy and interconnecting inner tent. Its not cheap - but overall I think Ive made a great choice - roll on spring !

Having been an avid camper of many years, slowly increasing the level of comfort as the years rolled on, it was time to move up from a geodesic bubble that I could only stand up in in the dead centre of the main area. As with many I trawled the internet and local shops and came up with the Wolf Lake 5. Expensive as it is in this day and age for a tent but hopefully more durable and comfortable. I must point out that there are only two of us so plenty of room to swing the proverbial. And due to the low number of occupants we only need one of the bedrooms.

We received the tent a couple of weeks before our hols and put it up as is suggested to make sure all was well and found one fault. Where the two man sleeping area attaches to the outer at the back, the black ribbon and connector had not been sewn into the sleeping compartment which meant we had to use the three man section and drop the two man part, this turned out to be fine. I didn't want to send the whole thing back just because of one clip, it would have cost a fortune.

South coast of England in the middle of August was an excelent test for any tent and this one passed with flying colours!

Yes there was rain, sun and wind. No leaks, and with the window configuration never too hot. And beacuse of the design of a tunnel tent nothing was walked inside.

It is actually very easy to erect and take down even with two, and my good lady is one the petite side.

The only down side as everyone before me have stated is the weight but don't be put off by that, the experience of the luxury it offers whilst on holiday easily outweighs this minor inconvenience at the start and end of the adventure.

I was also very surprised at the number of Outwell tents - all models - there were on the site we were at, which also says to me Outwell know what they're at, and they do. What a tent!
