We bought this tent as the Cabanon Aruba we have was a little too much to erect & dismantle for the two of us who are no longer spring chickens. Am I glad we did. I cannot fault it. So much so that I shipped it overseas (Ł125 to Cyprus via TNT) jumped on a plane and spent a wonderful week in it with rain & very bright Sun (mid March). I have left it there & booked a month in May & 2 weeks in October.

Plenty of storage space; plenty of living space (not sure for 6 however, there were just two of us); plenty of sleeping space and best of all lots of openings with mozzie netting.

We chose to leave the groundsheet attached to save erection time and the whole thing still rolls into it's bag. It does take two to erect but we did it quite easily between us in no time & she is 5 foot nothing in high heels & I have a broken wrist & ribs so it cannot be difficult for two fit adults or an adult & teenager. The poles are easy to put together (even with broken wrist) and very easy to thread through their pockets. We kept the inner sleeping compartment in but may consider its removal as it is only us.

We had torrential, vertical down, rain over the whole of one night from around 2100 to 0630 next day, and I mean torrential, but no leaks or penetration. The porch on the right side was a godsend for looking out of the open door at the sheet lightning and kept us and the wine dry. At 0720 when the sun peeked over the mountain the tent dried in no time under its blazing hot rays.

All in all an excellent buy, I did not pay the RRP, I would refuse to do that. Why oh why do they all insist on advertising such ridiculous recommended prices which any fool can see are just not realistic. Ł475 would be more than enough although I paid nowhere near that. I would be happy at an upper limit of Ł475 though if pushed & I was desperate.

Would I recommend it? Yes I would in spite of being a Cabanon fan.

We bought the tent, a footprint a carpet and a extension(not yet used), this review is based on a first time assembly and two night of usage in the summer.

First thoughts:

This is a very high tent, and also in the 6 person size very heavy but sturdy, consequently it defiantly requires two adults to erect it.

Assembly: I have been looking at the erection video on the Outwell website, so I had a very clear idea of the process of putting it up, I had a few problems initially pegging the first side out as it is not all that clear what tie downs are what, this soon becoming clear once I had put the poles in and pulled up the tent. From here I extended the tent out and pegged out the opposite side, I then put all the other perimeter pegs in; I then went onto the guy ropes the side ones were ok, but the end ones over each end apex were just at arms reach I'm 5ft10in.

Next I zipped in the groundsheet, The zipper is in two halves going from door to door, the joint meeting point between the zips serving as electrical access points, I tried to zip it all the way to the end and found that there were no end stoppers on them, consequently the zip came off the end (I was able to slide it on again), this could be better designed.

Then I went onto the inner bedrooms, these were easily attached, although again the highest connection were out of reach of my wife who would have needed a step to connect them, hooking the bottom and side connections were easy enough, but unfortunately the central hook between the bedrooms in the middle was missing, this on closer inspection looks like it could have fell off, but it was not in the bag. (We found that the tent was quite baggy at the back, but this was rectified by pegging the corners of the groundsheet down) there are no detailed instructions on erecting this part) the left side of the bedrooms can be collapsed and folded onto the left one if it is not in use.

The tent in use:

The bedrooms were very spacious and very high and can comfortably accommodate 3 kids on roll mats or two adults on an airbed. The tent was nice and warm and free of draughts, and very light in the daytime with all the curtains open. The doors can be a little tricky to open at night as the zip when the outer door is closed can be awkward to get at especially at those moments in the middle of the night!

In the rain the tent is very quiet with the canvas muffling out most of the noise, the canvas dried out in about 3 hours when in the sun.

The living area was very spacious too we got a carpet with the tent and this made it even more comfortable.

Dismantling and packing away:

The tent packs away very easily, though the bag once full with the canvas is very heavy (27kg), so you will need to ensure that a car is close when loading.

With a new baby arriving last year we chose this as our first family-sized tent. Its a good size - not too big, not too small. We didn't want anything too huge as we don't have a big car and like to get away camping for short weekend breaks. Still, its big enough to sit 6 adults comfortably in the living space.

We found the basic job of getting the tent erected fairly quick - perhaps 15-20 mins to roll it out, put in poles and hoist it up. It takes a little while then to go round putting in all the pegs and zip in the ground sheet if you've not left it ready attached.

Seems very well made, sturdy in the wind, waterproof. Light living space with many windows - all of which have a cover for night/privacy. Tons of storage pockets. Sleeping compartments have a zip divider.

Very little bad to say. Its very high - shorter people may have trouble putting in the inner tent or rolling up the window covers! Front awning is an additional extra.
