We brought this tent last year and used it for the third time last week, each time we've pitched it we have learnt more about it, you have to get the dome section square first then put in the ground sheet before you peg out the sleeping pods, if your not square then the whole tent is off,and the sleeping pods will not peg out evenly, once pitched correctly its a great tent, we had very strong gales last week at Eype in Dorset on the top of a cliff, we sat up all night waiting to take off, the tent bowed and poles creaked but we survived with one cracked pole in the porch area, a lot ot tents didnt survive the night.
Sleeping would be a squeeze for eight but don't you always bigger we're a family of 5 but would never buy a 5 man tent!, its a bathtub ground sheet, if you research before you buy you will know its going to be draughty and let the bugs in but in warmer weather its cooler.
We've been really pleased with our tent and would recommend it as a good buy, only one design fault, on other vangos you get an extra flap with a guy rope on the front porch the colorado doesn't have this, in windy weather that would save a broken pole.

I used a Colorado 800dlx on a holiday on Anglesey and on the second night we had winds of 70mph. The tent shook and swayed but did not come down, the next morning when we went out the site looked like a demolition zone with tents wrecked and flattened all around us, so I think this has a lot to say about Vango

This tent ruined our holiday. I agree with all the comments made by Kratcliffe but have many more. It was so bad that we abandoned camp after 24 hours as we did not feel safe in the tent.
Firstly this tent is difficult to put up, and difficult to get level. One bedroom was too low and the other too high. This caused inadequate room in the bedroom but also let in a lot of draft under the ground sheet, causing a 'moon walk' effect in the living area. Also as this was the second exit we had to remove the pod to use the door as the step up was way too high.
We had trouble getting the webbing flat as the pins seemed to be in upside down on two of the corners.
The porch poles were insufficient causing an 'inside out unbrella' effect in a slightest wind. This was both dangerous and frightening as I was trying to cook in the porch.
The guy ropes were too short, did not feel strong enough and did not stay taut, which partly explained the umbrella effect. The tension bands similarly did not stay tensioned.
On a general note I disliked the lack of windows in the living area and would have preferred bigger bedrooms.
By comparison our friends outwell hartford is a much better tent.
We have camped for many years in many tents, including an older version of this tent which is far superior. It seems that vango have let their standards drop. We are in the process of a complaint and will let you know how it goes.

This tent is quite complicated to put up and when you are trying to put it up in bad weather or on a slope it is difficult to get it straight. Although it is an 8 man tent, we struggled to get our double air bed in one of the side bedrooms.
Our three children had their single air beds in the big bedroom and we used the 3rd bedroom as storage. If you don't use airbeds, you can fit more people in. The dome in the middle is plenty big enough to sit, eat and play but the bedrooms are on a slope so you cannot stand up in them to get dressed. Also, if you are at the back of the bedroom (as I usually was) the lining of the tent hangs down over you towards the bottom, making it feel a bit too close.
We bought this tent last year and only used a four times late last summer and started camping again at Easter this year. Although it was cold (as expected), the problems we had with this tent were the drafts coming in due to the groundsheet not be sewn in, it leaked rain in from the main dome and after our third weekend away several poles cracked and split. We are currently in talks with Vango to sort it out but beware - they are trying to tell us the poles are not covered under their guarantee. Also, they do not reply to e-mails and their telephone number is one that charges 25p per minute. I am very dis-satisfied with their after sales service. As you can imagine, we are not at all happy with this tent and will not buy another vango. I know not everyone has the same problems as we do, but I thought it might be useful for people to know what happens when things do go wrong.

We chose this tent initially because we wanted a fly first tent that is light and airy and big enough for a family of 5 to spend a rainy day in without feeling cramped. It really fits the bill.
The side pods fit 2 children comfortably-with luggage, and the 4 man pod fits our double airbed and our luggage with room to spare, in fact we may put all 3 children in this pod next time, have a side pod ourselves and leave the 3rd pod out to have a great big 2nd porch, as there is a side door here.
It takes us 45 mins to put up properly, (an hour before I've finished faffing with it!) it's not hard but it is a case of just plodding through all the poles and guys. It's only probably 15 mins before the central dome is up though, so perfectly manageable in inclement weather with 3 kids!
Our groundsheet fits just fine, and has done a brilliant job of keeping us dry. In France last year a flash flood ran through the pitch when we were out. I don't think any tent could have kept it all out and we had a central puddle with completely 100 percent dry bedrooms and beds. There were alot of families in a lot of different tents that had very wet beds.
The bag is pretty big and heavy, but hubby can lift it into the car with no trouble and I think it's really clever how it all fits back in with a shove-poles and all.
We got ours end of show for £140, worth much more though.

Great sized tent for family camping holidays. We bought ours about 3 weeks before a planned camping trip to France having decided we wanted more room for a 2 week holiday than we had with our current tent. We are a family of 3 but often take a friend of our daughters with us and there is plently room with the 2 girls in one of the side pods. The great thing about this tent is that all the bedrooms and main living area are a great size. We go a away with friends and usually use our tent as the main eating / sitting at night place and there is loads of room without being on top of each other.
The ground sheet is good and I have to disagree with the other review and say that I've always found it easy to line up. Perhaps we're just lucky.
The colourcoded poles are a great idea as there are a lot of poles. We tried the instructions and then just figured out the best way ourselves which was to put just the main central poles in first, and then work outwards. Peg some guy ropes to steady the tent while you add the remaining poles. It take us around 40-45 mins to put up but it's worth it for the space. The pack weight / size is pretty good.

We have had 2 of these models our current one was bought in 2006 and I think it is very similar to the 2008 model. Older versions were a lot different and had less room. We have 3 children that each have a single lilo and have plenty of room in the 4 man pod. The double pods take a double lilo but not much else. We use the 3rd pod as a kitchen with it's door open weather permitting ! The main living area is huge and we have seated and fed up to 10 people around tables. On the storm front I have seen other tents blown around and destroyed whilst ours remained dry and intact. The ground sheet is difficult to get right and I have fitted extra eyelets to allow it to be pegged down better, an attached all in one ground sheet would be better but it's not the end of the world.
Overall it's a good strong tent that needs 2 or 3 people to put up.

After taking my son camping in a 2 man tent I decided I wanted to embrace some more comfort. With a family of 2 adults/ 2 sons I decided that I wanted each of the boys to have a bedroom. After looking around I found the reviews on this site favourable plus there were some good deals around.
I can't compare it with other tents but as a package it's quite a weight to carry round, but not impossible. I keep the poles separately from the tent which makes it much easier to transport.
Putting Up
There are a lot of tent poles in varying sizes with two thick ones for the main strength. I have put this tent up myself and used a tripod to support the main dome until the main poles are in. From there on it's just a lot of poles and guy ropes to put in. All poles are colour coded so its a breeze to put the correct pole in the right hole. Like a lot of things practice makes perfect.
The floor is fitted separately and takes a bit of practice to get lined up correctly.
Living In.
I haven't stayed in the tent in a storm but understand that it holds up well. The living area is very large and if sleeping 8 people and it's wet outside you wouldn't feel too cramped. There are plenty of windows so it has a light airy feeling.
In the 4-man section I fitted a double ( blow-up ) bed and that's about as much that will go in there. I suspect 4 people could fit in there but they'd be keeping each other very warm.
The other two pods will take a single matress with space to spare.
Summary
In my view this is a comfortable 6 man tent with a very large living area. I think I'd prefer a sewn in ground sheet but that''s just my preference. The quality of build seems very good and if you can get a decent deal you won't be dissapointed.
