We love this tent, its small enough to get into a 2 seater car, and feels big once inside . The bedroom is big and square, enough for a double air bed and room around for stuff, or two campbeds with room for the dog in the middle . It stayed warm and dry with bathtub floor throughout. The colour is slightly darker than the manufacturers photo, more forest green, not lime. The mesh option door on side and front was really nice, but I do wish it had a window in the front panel, it only has two small v shaped windows in the front wings, and one half window in the other side . We might get one put in by a tent repair place. Still we could fit two big fold up chairs and a little table , a box for all the food etc and a dog bed in the living area alone.

It was ok to stand in if you bend at the neck, or stoop a bit if you are tall, if you have back trouble it might get you down for long trips. Perfect for us though, as a long weekend tent. The 400 has pocket strips either side of the double bedroom doors, so really handy, every inch of space was usable , and we felt really happy in it , we didnt find the small size annoying, and the layout suits us down to the ground!

3rd year of using my tent, can't fault it for performance and value for money, everything still works, zips, stitching, ties & water proofing. Out performed my friends Outwell tent which costs twice as much as the Vango with regard to stability in windy conditions. Like the features on the 2011 model, may upgrade to new model next year. Carry on camping.

We love our tent and bought it as a package with the sun canopy, which is a must have, carpet and footprint for a good price. It says sleeps 4 but we use it for 3 and find it just big enough! The canopy is so useful for cooking and as extra space, especially if it's raining. We loved the fact that the sleeping compartments are all inside and it's fairly easy to put up. With 2 people it takes about 15mins. The pockets inside are a handy extra too. Have used it in the rain and it did let in some water but with the porch on it's not as much. Our friends have a Vango and we had another make when away with them and loved the straps which give added support inside. We took our other tent back and got this one and haven't looked back!

We found the Icarus 400 a very usable tent very easy to put up taking only about 15 min to put up which is always a bonus. We have not had any problems with this tent all

Its a great all rounder for the weekend it has enough space for the 2 of us but I think it mite be a bit tight with more than 2 people in it we agree overall top notch tent

Completely agree with the issues about the tent opening; will try the velcro option, but it's definitely a bit of a design flaw for earlier models.

The tent also uses the newer style buckles for pegging down, which is more of a hassle.

That said, we've used this tent many times and it is almost perfect for taking away for both long and short periods. I'd buy another one.

We love our Icarus 400. However, the reason for the 9 instead of 10 out of 10 is down to the doors. In a heavy rain storm it lets in water so we take spare towels to run along to door. I see others have used velcro which maybe we could try.

Other than that, the size is perfect, takes 10 mins to put up, I (only a feeble woman) can do it on my own in that time. The living space is big enough for a table and 4 chairs (all be it snugly) if its really tipping it down and the sleeping area is big enough for 4 plus luggage. Love it.

This is one of the best weekend tents you can buy and after a few pitches you can get this up in ten minutes and is one of the best tents we have pitched on a wet day we do use the foot print takes longer to peg that out and work out the view you want than put up the tent this would have had a 10 out of 10 if we did not have to add Velcro to the bottom of the front door to keep out drafts and we have a Colorado 800 DLX so we have the king poles to use on a nice day when we put up the front door,we have used the tent on sunny weekends and the worst wet and windy days you can get on the Gower and felt very safe at night in it we first used the tent at the end of October 2009 and think we will keep this has our weekender for a few years yet.

We love our Icarus 400! We took it for a weekend away for the first time in April. The wind was gusting above 35 and we had continuous torrential rain for 48 hours - ah, the British countryside in springtime. The Icarus stayed up and bone dry in the bedroom - tiny dribble of water in the porch from the door. The tent was very noisy in the wind, but considering the conditions I was just glad the poles didn't snap! It's not meant to be a tent for extreme weather, more of a weekend getaway tent, and only a pair of total idiots would have taken their three year old camping in such weather. But luckily for us, our Icarus appears to be idiot-proof.

It takes us about half an hour to put it up, but we do dither about - I'm sure the 10 minutes quoted by another reviewer is perfectly possible. It's the ideal size for our family - two adults and a (now) four year old. I'm glad we bought the footprint too - it makes it easier to put up as you can see where to peg it out, and also helps us to pack our tent away clean even if it's standing in a very muddy field. The front door thing is not a big issue - we haven't got around to putting velcro on it yet. We put a bit of kitchen roll there during the storm, and then arranged picnic blankets around where the draught came in. You only noticed the draught in the porch, not at all in the bedroom despite a howling wind outside. To sum up.If anything happened to our Icarus 400 we'd go straight out and buy another one.

This is a very good short stay tent and as previously stated ideal for 2 and possibly a third (child). The tent is also very easy and quick to put up.Like the fact that it is 'as one' pitch system.

Like the fact that it has an zipped opening for EHU.

We did find that although the tent doesn't leak it is prone to build ups of condensation.

It's a shame that both doors can not be sealed (running a strip of velcro along the bottom of each door might be the answer) and the front door doesn't have no-seem-em mesh.

Velcro additions work really well, 2010 model has centre toggle on main front door to secure it to the ground sheet. I have used my tent lots this year, back to Scotland again still very pleased with performance, no leaks and very stable in windy conditions due to TBS system. Shop around and you can pick one up for less than a £100 bargain. Other comments stated that they didn't have any erection instructions, mine are sown inside carrying bag.

Manufacturer's Description

The new Vango Icarus Range is likely to be one of the most popular this season as it has a fantastically simple 'as-one' easy to pitch system and the simple 3-pole no hassle construction will make it the most ideal of weekend tents. The tent frame is constructed using Powerflex fiberglass poles, a Protex 2000 Polyester flysheet (2000mm hydrostatic head protection) and as is the norm these days, the groundsheet is fully sewn-in to keep out unwanted pests and draughts. The other key features of the tent include, as-one pitching, single 4-berth sleeping compartment (no divider), TBS tension band system for extra strengthening in adverse weather, (just like all the banks) 10,000mm HH internal groundsheet, side 'J' door with mesh double door, heavy duty continuous poles sleeves, front door mesh vent, reflective webbing, 'Crystal Clear' windows, breathable fabric inner tent, parallel zipped front door can be used as a sun canopy. Handled carry bag and repair kit included. Flame retardant throughout.
