Just come back from 1 night away (10th April 10)so that we could try out our 2010 version. Like the previous poster, we bought the Icarus 500 to replace our Vango Venture 500. So.Did it live up to the hype?? Yes.And some.

Easy to put up, easy to take down, even got it back in the bag 1st time!

Loads of room for the 2 of us, my only (very slight) criticism is that the bedroom doors should open towards the middle, not the sides as they are in the wrong place when you are using it as one large room with a double airbed in the middle.

The differences (that I could tell) from the 2009 model are that there is a hanging point for a light in the living area now, the flapping door problem has been addressed by a toggle at the bottom of both doors and the huge mesh vent in the bedroom has now been replace by a much more discreet one at ceiling height.

All in all a lovely little tent, especially with the added luxuries of footprint, carpet and extension.

Pleased, you bet I am!

We bought this tent to replace our ageing Vango Venture 500 which has served as our weekend tent for 7 years and we needed a tent with more space and a sig. The Icarus stood up to the high winds and hail stones with no problems, it is light and airy and apart from the flapping front and side door which we cured by using stick on velcro which worked very well there was no water getting in on the carpet.

Would also have been better if there was a fly screen on the front door the same as on the side door which I hear has now been added on the 2010 version, the new specific sun canopy is a great addition for cooking out of the rain, though not recommended in high winds, this is a well designed tent and only a few niggles apart from those mentioned above, no where to hang light in living area or bedroom.

This tent is quick and easy to pitch and take down and ideal for weekend use making this tent excellent value for money.

We have used this tent in wind and rain and it has become a perfect base for us. We saw other reviews where people had problems with leaking so have sewn a loop onto the front flap which is secured with a tent peg. The water runs off it, though a full zip would have solved this problem. The tent is easy to pitch (15 mins) and easy to take down. It is airy, light and the front awning allows us to make the most of the location/sunshine/outdoor cooking etc. Its described as a 5 man tent it is fine for 2 but wouldn't like to use it with 5 people in, to be honest. All in all a superb weekend tent especially for me as I am over 6 feet tall and I can actually stand up in it!

We brought this tent as although we have a Vango Aspen we wanted something more suitable for weekend trips. The Icarus is more than suitable for a couple of nights away. It is quick to pitch, has plenty of living space and the bedrooms are ideal for a family of four. We use ours with a sun canopy and therefore do not issues with the door that others seems to have. Although I agree that it would be great if there was mesh on the front door as well as the side.

I think you would be hard pushed to find a better weekend tent for this price any where.

Me and my girlfriend bought this tent after reading lots of positive reviews. We lived in this tent for 6 nights and thankfully found it great overall!

We had 5 days of great weather and one day and night of rain and gales so I would like to think the tent had been well tested! I will give some good points and then some slight niggles;

> I put the tent up in my garden when we first bought it, I would recommend doing this as it gives you time to get to grips with putting it up properly. (it took me 25 minutes to put up in the garden, 10 minutes on the campsite!).

> The tent has great height, I comfortably stood up throughout the whole tent without problems (i'm 5'10')

> The groundsheet is totally sewn in and the bedroom inner sheet is sewn up to a groundsheet which is great and gives the tent a cosier feel in wet and windy weather.

> The tent has good ventilation overall

> The living area is very spacious with no closed off space, it also boasts lots of windows for a light and airy feel.

> I liked the adjustable tensioners inside the tent, it just made things look more sturdy - you could really see them working in the windy weather.

> Lots of storage pockets.

Now down to some slight snags.

> During the night of gales and rain the tent held very well but the front door blew like crazy in the wind at the bottom letting some water spray in. I have fixed this with sticky back velcro.

> I wish the front door would have had a separate mesh door like the side door has

> we purchased the extra 1.8m poles to hold up the front door as a porch at £17. This didn't seem value for money and should have been included in the tent package.

> there were no places to hang a light.

Overall, lots of these snags were sorted by some alterations I made. This tent is great.

Easy to erect and love the sewn in ground sheet, the only issue after a very windy couple of nights is the door flap, but will get some velcro pads for next time. Lots of little pockets are great for storing keys and other essentials, but could do with somewhere to hang a light. We stayed in it for 8 nights and started to get a bit cramped so kept our clothes in the car. We have got a canopy as we like the door covered especially if it rains, this gave us the room to keep the stove and table outside and somewhere to sit outside when it's raining. We fit a family of four in the sleeping area on camp beds and blow up beds, there's no way you'd fit another bed in there to make it five berth.

Have just returned from a wet and windy weekend in Cornwall and overall am very pleased with the tent. Did have two small leaks where the flysheet meets the SIG but after torrential rain for 12hrs I wasn't surprised. These were easily sorted with a sheet of kitchen roll. Its so easy to pitch and the head height throughout is excellent. I use the tent with the large extension so the lack of eyelets to canopy the front door doesn't worry me. This tent would be perfect if it had a window/mesh option in the front door and had a hanging point for a light/lantern. I have only given the tent 7 out of 10 for the following reasons.

1. Front door would be so much better if zipped at the bottom, when its windy the door flaps and can be draughty.

2. One of the large front door toggles came off in my hand, tent only been used 4 times, this isn't good enough imo.

3. Lack of hanging point for a light.

4. Poor stitching on the bedroom inners, both inners have small splits adjacent to the zips on the bedroom doors. Have sorted this with superglue but shouldn't have split in the 1st place.

The ventilation is excellent and this is the first polyester tent I've owned where condensation isn't a problem at all.

Overall for the price this is an excellent weekend tent.

Just used our new Icarus 500 tent, it is ace easy to put up very roomy living space, not sure if you would fit 5 in the bedrooms but excellent for us 3.I really like the way you put it up with the bedrooms already in makes things a lot easier.

Nice family tent cheap, I can stand up in living area and bedroom, easy to put up, take down, have not had the flapping door problem yet, put the tent up in rain and dry inside to get dry. Tested the tent in 40mph winds near Fishguard to find the back was bowing in the wind. The wind was hitting from directly behind and the back pole was flexing at least 3 ft not so good but still was dry inside couple drips condensation to be expected in the driving rain. Must remember to pitch the tent with more shelter in future and I think it will be ok. This is a week end tent after all so I think it might need a extra guide rope at the back. Otherwise great tent

I bought this tent in March after upgrading from a Campus Santiago as my partner and myself wanted a bigger living area. We have used it several times this summer and I am very very pleased with it. I bought the footprint which is ideal as the bottom of the tent stays dry and I have just purchased the Sun Canopy for the front door for our forthcoming 2 week trip and with the British weather not being the best thought this would be a great added extra living area. This tent is so easy to put up, with the bedrooms already fitted in, it normally takes up 10-15 mins which is great when you see others struggling for hours! We use the divide in the bedroom and have one side for all our junk!

With regards to the front door, I cross over the elastic peg hooks from the door across the peg hooks at the side of the door and it keeps it down and doesn't flap around! Will try and upload some pictures with regards to the front door. I would recommend this tent to anyone but think sleeping 5 mite just be too too cosy!
