We had a list of requirements for our next tent and this one seemed to suit fine…

Polycotton/Canvas. - Yes

Aluminium Poled - Yes

Attached porch area (1.5m+) that can be sealed off. - Yes

Divides between living area and porch. - Yes

3 bedroom compartments that can be turned into 2 if required. - Yes

Tunnel tent. - Yes

Mesh on all doors. - No

Front entrance to be vertical, not sloped. - Yes

Large enough for a family of 4. – Oh Yes!

It needs to fit in an estate car (with roof box)! – Sort of!

First Impressions are important and this tent is huge! After my 2nd pitch (mainly solo) I can get it up in just over an hour. Altogether it is heavy and I split the pack down into 3 by having the poles in the roof box and rest in the boot. Like Jasonandclare I fitted LineLoks to the guys and also karabiners to the fabric ends where the guys attach to. I pitched the tent ridge by ridge and pulled the guys past the next section to act as support which worked well and I am ‘only’ 5ft 11 & didn’t find zipping in the front canopy to be much of an issue. I contacted Obelink about the option of having a solid fabric front attachment to use instead of the fly screen but they do not offer one.

Going from polyester to this polycotton is amazing, it doesn’t snap in the wind, we didn’t have any issues with water ingress, it keeps cooler for longer in the sun, it stays warmer at night and did I mention the space?! Although the blackout blinds are external this makes sense as the vents at the top are huge (and very useful) and when it rains all you need to do is lover the blinds half way and its watertight again. The bedroom arrangement works fine for us as I use camp beds and these don’t slide into the next room.

The only negatives so far are:

There is no mesh on the two doors,

Additional Velcro will be needed for both openings,

The porch roof is quite hard to get taught so water collects in places (but does not come through crucially)

Space wise in our estate, the main issue is all our other gear! The tent fits on the dropped single seat behind the driver with space for our two darlings in the double seat left over however, I am going to have to get a trailer if we wish to take another family member with us in the future!

We are very impressed and happy with our purchase. Now I just need to get a carpet for it!

We got this tent this summer (2015) and have had two week-long trips out in it. Both times we had strong winds and plenty of rain.

We were upgrading from a Vango Icarus 500 + Extension - and it's a huge improvement. We were happy with the Icarus, but this tent feels much better quality. The Polycotton material is much less noisy in wind and gives the impression of being in a safe sturdy structure. The alloy poles don't bend in the way the Icarus' fiberglass poles did.

Packed in its three bags it takes up a lot more space in the car than the old tent and extension. We still managed to squeeze it in to a Kia Ceed (not the estate), along with all of our furniture and beach toys and two kids (and everything a 4 month old baby needs). We had to make a few compromises on what to pack though - no room for the fire pit :(. Packing up was a massive headache, trying to fit everything back in. Next stop for us will be a bigger car.

I think it's possible to put it up solo in calm conditions by starting from the back and working your way forward, inserting the poles one at a time and guying them out one by one. It's easy to take it down this way, but I never got a chance to put it up solo because it was too windy both times.We used the method on the Obelink Video - put all poles in, concertina it up, get everything upright and walk it out from the back.

The supplied guy lines are ok, but the runners are rubbish - especially when wet. I have since replaced these with LineLoks. In addition to this, where the guy joins to the tent is just a material tag. Most tents use plastic or metal rings here so allow the guys to slide more freely. I have added small karabiners to the top tag along the sides to fix this. The supplied pegs were the usual rubbish wire ones. The clips that hold the bottom of the sleeping area in place aren't very good either - just hooks that come undone too easily. Not that it makes much difference if they are undone or not once you have all the bedding laid out. Other than these details, the overall quality is excellent. I have heard reports of some sloppy stitching, but we had none of that. It looked well finished throughout. The zips used are high quality and feed really sturdy. The groundsheet material is very robust and heavyweight.

The first couple of times it got wet some water did get through. There were small puddles around the base of the poles and at one point, during a really hard shower, a fine mist on the inside. This has resolved itself now though. No rain came in at all for the rest of the holiday, so I put this down to the usual weathering needed.

The large zip on extension has enough space for cooking and eating, even with a pram in it as well. The mesh screen works well and looks great too. The only problem with the extension is that it's a single two metre long section between poles. This makes it difficult to get tight without pulling on the rest of the tent too much. It would be better if there were a couple of support poles connecting the main tent front pole with the extension pole.

All in, we were very pleased with the tent. It is not perfect, but it is a fantastic tent for the price - most other manufacturers charge Ł1000+ for this sort of tent.

I bought a Familia 6 in mid 2014 just after they tweaked the design. One thing to say is that it's huge when it's all up (and not all that much smaller when it's in its bags.)

It hasn't been out in any really windy conditions, so I can't comment on that aspect yet.

General first impressions are that the tent is really good, but not excellent.

Positives

It goes up easily. It's polycotton. It has loads of space and the canopy/porch is really useful. The mesh front keeps the rain out, although I would imagine that if the rain is heavy enough and the wind blowing in the right direction, it might blow through. My wife grew up in a country that uses screen doors on houses and she says it will keep all but the worst rain out more effectively than you would expect.

It has three pockets in each bedroom and a single row of five or six on the front of the inner.

Negatives

The old version had a tensioning bar along the roof but the new version has done away with that, which means it's quite saggy quite a lot of the time.

The blackout blinds are on the outside - this just seems a bit silly to me.

The bedroom dividers zip down the sides, but not along the bottom - If you're on a slope, be prepared to wake up having slid into a different room.

The pack size is huge. Three big bags (although I guess you could split it into five smaller bags, which may work better for packing)

The canopy/awning is quite hard to zip on. I'm 6'1' and had to stand on a box and get someone else to take up the slack in the canvas to get the zips to engage.

Finally, the stitching is quite messy, with a lot of loose tangled threads. The stitching itself seems fine, but there are more stragglers than I was expecting.

Having said all that, we do like it, and it's growing on us as we use it more and more!

We purchased this tent in June 2013 and took it on a two-week trip almost immediately. The two bags in which it arrived appeared gigantic and heavy, but easily fit in the back of our Mazda 3 hatchback (with about half a centimeter to spare on either side). We are a family of four.

Pitching was easy, especially after watching the film on the Obelink website. Loved the zip-in groundsheet. It kept our 4-year old busy while we handled the guy lines. Once pitched it was extremely sturdy.

The dividers in the pods can be zipped up, we turned two of the three sleeping areas into a big one for all four of us and kept most clothes in the third space. We'd like to have more kids at some point, so that may not be possible anymore in the future. The space inside is lovely, lots of room, so the kids had some space to play even when it rained.

One thing we really loved was the flexibility and many options. On the first site we pitched the full tent, which is absolutely massive. The second site had size restrictions (Crystal Palace in London), so we left off the front bit. Due to the direction of the tent we used the side door as the main entrance.

One thing I would have liked as an added bonus would be a a zip-on closure for the extension, rather than just the flyscreen, so keeping rain out of the extension would be an option. But overall we really loved this tent and look forward to many more trips with it.

Bought this tent May 2012 as it ticked all our boxes. The tent comes in two large canvas holdalls of roughly equal size and weight with sturdy shoulder straps for carrying (with plenty of room to easily fit the tent back into after use) we love this tent the canopy with its full flyscreen is fantastic for sitting out on warm summer evenings without getting eaten alive, also at 2meters deep there is plenty of room in it for a full kitchen and dinning table for 6, although enclosed by the flyscreen you really get the feeling your outdoors. The living area is huge 3x4.5m room for two sofas and furniture, the groundsheet is a zip in for the main tent and the canopy comes with separate groundsheet although the canopy mudflaps are big enough to completely seal the bottom of the canopy flysheet and keep out any draughts. The inner bedroom tents are cotton with full door flyscreens or solid cotton doors. It only scores 9/10 as the outer doors only zip on two sides and are secured at the bottoms by velcro ( this has'nt been a problem and the velcro seals the doors pretty well but we might find ourselves adding a little more velcro to seal them fully at some point in the future. Did I say we love this tent :-) xx
