By: Hywel31 Reason: I own(ed) one Made in: 2007 Rating:
After the birth of our daughter and all the stuff that comes with young children we had to upgrade the size of our tent. We were originally going to go for an Outwell Montana 6 but went to one of the Millets tent shows near us at the end of last summer and saw both pitched. Whilst the Montana is impressive and it was a tough decision we opted for the Eurohike Buckingham in the end.
It has a hydrostatic head of 2000mm which is not as much as some, but we used this for the first time at the Whitsun bank holiday and it withstood a lot of wind and rain with no leaks.
It gives a lot of space this is largely due to the fact that it allows you to stand in most of the tent. There are three bedroom capsules one for 4 adults and two facing which can sleep 2 adults each. We like our space in a tent and the 4 person section accommodated my wife and I on a double airbed and my daughter in a standard sized travel cot (there would have also been room for a single airbed had we needed it). The other two capsules are equally spacious and this is not one of those tents that when they say sleeps 8 they mean sleeps 6 comfortably and 8 like sardines.
The living area is generous and has a footprint of about 3m x 2m and was large enough for 4 adults and my daughter in a highchair to sit and have a meal out of the rain.
It is pitched fly first and because of the size takes two people to pitch it. It does not have a sewn in groundsheet. The bedroom capsules have integral groundsheets and there is another groundsheet that covers the living area and underneat the pair of bedroom capsules, however this attached to the fly by way of hooks and this makes it easier to peg down than many non integral groundsheets I have come across.
There are four large windows in the living area so lets in a lot of light. There are also flyscreens on all the bedroom capsules.
We also bought a canopy that goes with the tent and this gives a bit more shelter, although it is quite unstable in the wind. It is also difficult to buy as they only seem to seel it by telephone mail order (it is not in their shops or on their website).
It comes in a suitcase style bag, which despite its weight (22kg) is easy to lift and manoeuvre
The final reason that we chose this over the Montana 6 was the price - it was the end of season and we got a good price for the tent and canopy (about £160 for both) which is half the price of the Outwell Montana.
Many will say you get what you pay for, but we were on a budget and so far have not regretted our choice.

Manufacturer's Description
Buckingham is a larger version of the Sandringham tunnel tent, with space to sleep six people in three separate bedrooms. It is stable and easy to pitch, and its large windows in the living area and bedrooms give plenty of natural light and ventilation. The waterproof polyester flysheet has a hydrostatic head of 2000mm and fully taped seams. It is fire retardant and has a HealthGuard treatment, which helps prevent odours, bacteria and degradation, deters biting insects, makes the fabric more durable and increases its wicking properties. Other features include two doors, No See Um mesh panels, a polyethylene groundsheet, fibreglass poles and storage pockets inside the tent.
