We bought a Minnesota 4 (‘Minny’) tent as a weekend tent (as we have a larger Montana 6 (Monty) and like the fact that the pack size of the ‘Minny; is smaller than the ‘Monty 6 ‘) and thought it would be easier and quicker to pitch.
We can fit the full pack in our medium size roof box which means it’s the last thing we have to pack away and everything stays dry when it’s lashing down.
The 2 pod rooms each fit a double bed in perfectly – the pods also have pockets in inner to store things which is handy for the kids toys and bedtime books . It also has the handy organizer pockets that are often found in Outwell tents which are handy for keeping odd and ends in.
The small living area easily fits our small picnic table and chairs and feels really cozy. As with the Montana, the bit that 'bugs' me is the sloping front door and wish this could be completely vertical so its easier to get in and out – especially when raining. We also bought the matching extension so if it rains its not a problem for us but those without the extension, I guess you'd get pretty wet going in and out and the rain would also leak into the tent due to the slope of the front door.
We don’t use the side door but this has a small canopy over the top – again, not sure if this would be much use if its raining. The one thing I would mention is that this door, when we have used it, is very taught – the tension means that it is difficult to zip up – this was mentioned in previous reviews below. My other comment is regarding the pods.As they pods are white and therefore do not block out much light, you’re woken early by the sun, but not a real problem as you will find most pods are the same – just thought I’d mention it. Would be good to consider using ‘blackout material’ for pods - Are you listening Outwell?!
Adversely, even though its smaller than our ‘Monty 6’, its not any easier or quicker to pitch – the tension on the tent on the frame means we have to have everything exactly in place otherwise it just wont square up…so there is lots of re adjusting and pulling before we can peg out etc.Etc.
I do feel ultra safe in the Minny, Its steel pole frame has kept up safe in some pretty poor, wet and windy weather and this is really important to us having been in some horrific weather conditions and seen other tents flapping and flouncing in the wind. We decided that we could stay in the Minny for a 2 week holiday happily.

We bought this tent at the start of a two week holiday in Scotland after our new Khyam Chatsworth had failed on our first day. It probably would not have been our first choice under different circumstances, but we needed a tent there and then. Having said that, we really like it now, and it's stood up to worse weather than the Khyam did.
Good points:
Good headroom, and don't lose much space round the edge because of sloping sides.
Easy and quick to erect with two people (haven't tried by myself)
Roomy bedroom (although we only use it for the two of us)
Good storage pouches
Not so good points:
No poles for canopy - and really it could do with a better canopy
Overall we would recommend this tent

Used my Minnesota three times this year and I gotta say, what a tent. The only flaw I have to say is that the pole for the porch door has snapped. I think outwell needs to sort this out as it looks like is a common flaw in this tent. I've bought the new model thinking this flaw would have been sorted but I was wrong.
The inside is spacious, good for cooking on a rainy day and bedrooms a good size for a double airbed. We were dry and warm over our holidays and will definitely be using this tent again next year.
Well recommended tent

We've used our Minnesota 4 twice this year and overall we have been impressed with it. There are just two of us using it and I wouldn't like to think there were any more of us. Our poles on the side door canopy snapped the first time we used it, but it's fixed now. The pins that go into the poles are really tight fitting and that probably takes the longest in putting the tent up. We used a footprint second time around and I was surprised how much difference it made to the feel of the tent underfoot - that and the clean bottom when packing it away. The tent withstood strong winds over the weekend - when packing it away we found a small puddle but we couldn't find the source so we will have to keep an eye on that next time it rains. Overall we are impressed with the tent - we now have the extension and that really made a difference - just gives that extra space for cooking and creates a conservatory for cold, sunny days.

Very impressed with this tent and we have camped for 7-8 years and own 6 tents. We were looking for a tunnel tent that was similar to our old trusty 'Outwell Indiana 4' and this one is a great choice. I actually bought it for my parents who are in their late 60's so it needed to be easy to put up and not too heavy. Although this tent has steel poles it does only have 3 which come in their own bag so can be carried separately.
As usual with tents it is always better to get a 4-5 man tent for 2 people as it seems that the number of campers recommended is always a bit tight when it actually comes down to it.
GOOD POINTS - Sewn in ground sheet is top notch. Height is excellent as you can stand with headroom throughout. Bedroom is half of the whole tent so plenty of room. The left bedroom can be totally rolled so as you get a smaller bedroom and gives your tent an 'L' shape living area. Easy to erect as only 3 steel ribs. Strong and sturdy because of the steel poles.
BAD POINTS - Ours came with only the plastic pegs which can be a problem on some surfaces so we had to buy 30 metal pegs (£6). Seperate mosquito sheet on the doors mean that you have to undo those before you undo the door (2 zips). Didn't come with porch poles so had to buy them and buy strings to put up the porch canopy. Probably will invest in the porch extension for this (so more expense) or get a cheaper 'Vango large Universal Porch' (£26 although not 100% sure it will fit). You have to step over and into this tent as the doors start 8-9 inches up.
CONCLUSION - Excellent tent, Very happy with the choice only minor gripes.Highly Recommended
Just a note for this Month (not sure if I can advertise). We bought ours for £225 brand new as 'S.K.Camping' have an August Special Offer on the Minnesota 4.We actually got Yeomans to 'price match' it. Always check the internet for prices.

I had my eye on the Minnesota 4 for a while before deciding to buy, and found a 2008 model in February this year at a (fairly) local camping shop for £180. Having already gleaned much information from this forum I knew what to expect, and only wrote this review after having used the tent 6 times this season.
There IS a huge amount of tension when fitting the pins into the upright poles, but after pinning the poles on the non adjustable side first, then making sure the sleeves arent stuck on the pole joints at the top, and pulling the sleeves firmly across towards the adjustable strap side, (fully extended)before pinning, makes it as easy as it,s going to get. The flysheet does NOT sit absolutely central on the poles on these tents, but this is not really an issue.
The other fault frequently mentioned is the side door rain canopy pole, which puts excessive tension on the zip,(A problem on other Outwell tents also) All I did to alleviate the problem was to swivel the 2 cups round 180 degrees and site the ends of the canopy pole BETWEEN the 2 steel upright poles, leaving them to take all the tension, I also made up another, thinner pole to remove more tension, - worked for me ! I dont personally believe that this tent is big enough for 4 people to use comfortably without adding extra space, (in which case you might as well buy something bigger to start with) but is more suited to 2 or maybe 3.
I regularly camp in this tent by myself, (I like a bit of space) and this tent can EASILY be erected by one person in about 40 mins. As stated in other reviews the tent is very stable in the wind, and although some outwell owners report leaks, I believe this to be a very small minority, and not an issue to be concerned about, as the vast majority dont.
The ventilation in the tent is adequate, controlled by 3 velcro closable flaps and 1 permanent grill, plus a zipped flap at the back of the tent. Another small gripe is the curtains over the windows, which can bag out a little, reducing privacy. This can easily be fixed with some velcro coins though. The S.I.G. On the tent is on the thin side, so a footprint really is a must. The universal bedroom pod is a very useful idea, on my tent, I rolled the right pod up and just use the left one, using the divider as a door, this adds hugely to the living space inside the tent.
Finally, as mentioned in other reviews, the extension is a very useful,(but expensive) addition to the tent, providing a sheltered area over the front door, (rainsafe) and sufficient room for 2 or 3 to sit outside under cover, this, also, can easily be erected by one person in about 15 mins. Or so. All round, a good, stable, and adaptable piece of kit - Recommended.

We have bought this new for this season as a weekend tent. After one trip we bought the front extension. We are very pleased with the tent overall and it is comfortable for 4 of us (2 adults + 7yr old and 5 yr old) with a bit of organisation. The extension makes it viable for a 3 or four night trip. Only negative is that the doors are a bit fiddly with an inner and an outer, but the zips seem reasonably snag free compared to other polyester tents we have had, and you get the hang of it quite quickly.
It is very quick to pitch (20 mins) and the metal poles are in three sections which I think makes it easier than all in ones.
Overall very impressed.

A really good, sturdy and spacious tent. Chose it for the sealed groundsheet which is a brilliant idea. Keeps the outside out and us, as snug as a bug inside! Plenty of room inside although admittedly it is meant for four people and there is only the two of us. We open the bedroom area into one space which gives more room under foot which we find much better. You can also detach the sleeping area from the tent which is really useful if you want to stick it in the washing machine.
We bought the front extension this year and it's been well worth the cost. Bit fiddly to put up along side the tent but worth the effort (practice makes perfect)!
I can't comment on the side door like other reviews because we haven't used it yet and now that we have the extension, I doubt that we will.
Overall a great tent. The only downside I guess would be the weight of it due to the steel poles but as we live in England and not Australia, the steel poles give you the confidence that it would stand up against any of the elements ol' Blighty could throw at it.

Great tent for two, used 2008 April to November it withstood snow, sleet, rain and gales, yes the porch was a problem but nothing a mini hacksaw couldn't solve by cutting a few inches off the pole. Done in the comfort range it would be unbeatable. Other tents I own Arizona L, South Sea 5

Just got back from the August Bank holiday spent in this tent and it was fantastic. We had persistent rain on 2 nights and some wind, and the Minnesota withstood both fantastically.
We are a couple + small baby and bought this to have space to hang around during all the inevitable baby-related-delays (feeding, napping, getting upset about heat etc!) and for the kid to just chill out and play without being in an inner and therefore too hot. In this respect the tent is perfect, and I'd happily have 4 adults in it (if it's warm you could easily have more using the living area since it's well weather protected).
The only slight negative is (like other reviewers) I found the door-cover tensioning pole does put the fabric and zip under pressure, but it hasn't been an issue other than making the zip slightly harder to use (no sign of damage).
Unlike others, I didn't find it hard to keep the rain out of the tent when using the side door and I don't see how this would be an real issue in most downpours providing you pitch the back of the tent to the wind as you should.
