Just come back from a long weekend to try out our new 6P. This was big change from our flexi pole 5 man, certainly heavier. We bought the tent as a package and the extra ground sheet and carpet were worth the extra (still less than the RRP just for the tent)
We had really mixed weather and I have to be honest the tent did not let us down once. It seemed well made* and we couldn't find any faults.
There is loads of room. I'm 6'5' and my wife is tall too; neither of us had any problems. We fastened back the divider in the sleeping compartment and our king-size mattress went in fine leaving us plenty of space to stand and dress. Mesh pockets are very handy.
The rain safe door is a bit low and bit small; the floor area is OK but the raking ceiling caused the problems. It's a great feature but a porch that's a little bigger and can be put on either side would be an improvement, the door heights otherwise are really good. I’ve seen some people use an XL side extension and this seems like a better idea to me.
The zipping sequence on the others doors is a bit fiddly and some of the zips catch occasionally.
The tent was really easy to put up even in a strong breeze. Open the front door a bit to let air in before you walk it out - it doesn't say this on the Outwell film, but if you look they have the door open.
There is loads of light in the tent, the tinted windows were great and you had flexibility to open and close blinds to suite your privacy levels (stop the dog barking at passers-by in our case).
It's a big tent so pegging out takes a while. We had no problems with the pegs that some people reported.
It could do with an extra lantern ring in the main area. Not sure why you need toggles to fasten the window blinds down when there is a pocket they roll in to. The pole for the rain safe door is very flimsy* - don't make my mistake and leave it in when you drop the tent. It bends easier than a drinking straw and would have broken if I hadn't reacted quickly. I can see this being broken by many people.
Does it have its problems - yes. Would I recommend it - yes.
Lost points on the design of the rain safe door.

Bought a Montana 6 in 2011 for family holidays. We've used it several times since and it's a super tent. Tons of space inside, so even a rainy day can be quite nice inside hearing the rain pattering on the roof. We used it last summer in torrential rain and gales and it performed superbly. Only after several days of constant rain did we start to see some seepage at the seams. The carpet makes it nice and cosy, whilst the bedrooms can be configured as one large room which the kids prefer.
The only downside? Well, the steel poles may be rigid but they're heavy. We found pitching took much longer then expected, but does come with practice. We found it easier to detach the sleeping compartment when pitching to reduce the weight that has to be lifted.
Overall? A great tent for stays of several days. Not so suited to the odd night camping due to the pitching time.

Best tent we have owned. In short very roomy, sturdy in the wind and has stood up to the worst the Northumberland coast could muster. I would highly recommend the Monty as it is a fantastic family tent. We have recently purchased the carpet and added the awning which is great for using as a cooking area. The overall camping experience the monty gives is that of a home from home

Fantastic tent for a family although there sre just 2 of us with the occasional grandchild. We have an older tent & it was packed away unused for a good while. It did let in a little water on 1 rough night with really heavy rain & very windy. We need to re-proof it now to prolong its life.
We also have the front extension (not full awning or dangling canopy!)- this worked really well & gives that extra bit of sitting/cooking/storage space. Love the window/ curtain/mesh arrangement as this allows plenty of air without the mossies.
On top of that we have a universal side extension which we couldn't use due to pitch size. Apart from giving a cooking area or toilet storage, this would really protect the side door, as the front extension protects the front door.
We love it!

Bought this tent to replace a 8 year old Wild Country Homestead 5. We liked the idea of extra space and a sig. We are very experienced campers with a range of tents from ultra lightweight to family.
Initial impressions were good, we liked the space and overall feel of the tent. However, these were soon changed when the low quality of the tent became apparent. Initially a couple of fixtures on the inner came away but the major problem was the groundsheet. Even though we were using a footprint at the end of a two week holiday the groundsheet was wearing in several areas and had worn through in one location. I took the tent back to Go Outdoors and was given a refund without too much trouble.
I have purchased a Wild Country Citadel which has a much tougher groundsheet and will hopefully fare better. I got a 2010 model for less than half what I paid for the Outwell tent.

Bought as a replacement for a Black's Constellation 3 that failed after quite a few years valiant service the Outwell Montana is significant step up.
After a few goes we can get it upright and needing guying in only about 15 minutes - but guying does take a while (so if raining it will be me I guess!). When up it is solid and very roomy - personally the only requirement for an awning is to enable cooking outside the 'main tent' but still undercover. The light from the windows is good and if you can find that perfect spot then the views out would be fantastic too.
Sleeping quarters are a roomy two each side or a cosy 3 - but absolutely perfect for a family of four (using mats - would work with camp beds too I guess).
I take the point made elsewhere about the doors not zipping along the bottom but we did not find this a problem - they seemed to self seal in the wind.
My only gripe and its not shared by my wife is the porch which I find a little too small to be really useful and it seems a weakness that you cannot fit it to either side as you would probably want it away from the prevailing wind so its position may dominate how you orientate your tent (if you think in that way!).
Overall seems a great tent, heavy sure but when you are only carrying it from the car it barely matters, acres of space, robust and easy enough to put up (as long as there are two). Look forward to using for many years in many places.

Our Montana 6 is now 3 years old ,it has been used for loads of holidays many of them for 2 weeks and I can honestly say this tent is faultless, other than a few dirty marks from use it's still in perfect condition. It performs amazingly in storm force gales and torrential rain. If we have to ever replace this tent I would go straight out and buy it again. Superb !

After camping last year in The Lakes with a Gelert Cadiz 7 which didn't stand up to driving wind and rain, I did a lot of research before purchasing our Monty! We went camping for 6 nights with 2 adults, a 5 & 3 year old and a 6 week old baby! The tent was awesome - so much space. We had two double blow-up beds plus a pop up pod for baby. I think you could fit another single blow-up in each section but this wouldn't leave much room for bags and no room for standing to get dressed apart from on beds. We had the bedroom as one big room but the partition zipped round, meaning that it was completely private if you wanted it to be.
We also purchased the Monty awning which was perfect - we kept the bbq and cooking stuff in there along with our table and chairs. We decided not to put down the groundsheet so that we didn't have to worry about mud or dropped food etc. This left the main area of tent for our lounging chairs and plenty of room for the children to play.
The poles for the porch were a little long making it very tight, as others have mentioned, but we had no problems and certainly no tearing or anything, but may get hubbie to shorten them very slightly before our next trip.
We personally found the pegs useless - most were bent beyond repair after their first use - thankfully we have camped in New Forest before and had our rock pegs with us! So we'll ditch the plastic ones and just take our metal ones with us - they haven't let us down yet!
We had some strong winds and heavy rain - no problems at all. It is a light and airy tent, especially if you open all the many curtains!
Everything went back in the bag, although I recommend rolling on tent once folded, before rolling up to expel all the air to ensure it goes back in bag first time. Definitely watch the video on Youtube as it just makes it so easy to put up and makes much more sense than the instructions! We did have a few hilarious moments when the wind caught the tent and it became a huge hot air balloon wanting to take off, so we got the kids to jump on it and roll all over! Definitely a two person tent to put up/take down - don't try it alone!
We also later bought the carpet and footprint - highly recommend both! The footprint meant the bottom of tent was clean and dry meaning we didn't have to get tent back out once home and made for easier placing within our pitch! Carpet made tent snuggly and meant kids could play on floor happily, although I did put a thick blanket down for them too as it still was a little cold if you were sitting on ground for a time as the kids were, but much better than a patchwork of various picnic rugs etc!
A great tent, especially for a family if they want to have a bit of room. Now to test it with the dog as well.

Having purchased this tent two days before holiday we had no time to try, however watched the pitching video and honestly it was a piece of cake, I wont pretend we know nothing as have been camping with variety of tents for a number of years but this being only the second steel pole tent was expecting an ordeal, our first type being another brand was a nightmare. This went up easy, stayed put in 30mph gusts of winds and didnt leak in a torrential downpour. Well impressed, the windows are great and let in lots of light, the bed areas you can leave in which is another bonus and it fitted back in the bag no problem. The side wet porch is good for stuff you want to keep hidden if you don't use as doorway. The tent pegs being colour coded are a great idea as well. One top tip they don't show in pitching video is open the door prior to pitching lets air in tent to help when walking out, just remember to do up again before pegging out!. If I wanted to be really picky I could say I hope you like green! The doors and flyscreens have a bit of an odd zip layout but once you get used to its fine. We used ours with a sunncamp side extension. It doesnt fit snugly to the sides like it would on a flexi pole tent but it fitted over top fine and it did the job to house our kitchen equipment. On the whole well impressed, could be one or two adjustments to make even better but can't have everything. On a quick note re pricing look around find cheapest and then go to go outdoors they will price match less 10 percent.

Just returned from our first trip in our new Montana after a break of a couple of years for camping. First tent we've owned with a SIG - what a difference! Impressed with the overall feel and quality of this tent - even the little toggles on the door fasteners are impressively high tech. Pitching was straightforward after watching the Youtube Outwell video a couple of times, though a strong gust of wind just as we lifted up the poles made for an adrenaline packed couple of seconds! Footprint recommended as it shows you the extent of the tent's outline before committing to pegs. Took around 15 mins to get up and basic pegs in, then a further 20 mins or so to peg in guy ropes and faff around with tensions. First tent I've put up with grumpy husband and not had a row. Lovely and light inside, ace that you can select which windows to have screened, in case you have another tent within close proximity, whilst still letting in lots of light/making the most of the views. Could do with a lamp hook in the sleeping pods but other than that, can't fault it. Taking tent down was simple, exact reverse of pitching, but rolling up to bag it was nigh on impossible due to aforementioned gales! Had to bundle it into car to sort out at home. Provided breakfast entertainment for fellow campers for 15 mins or so though. Overall, fabulous tent, can't wait to use it again. If you're dithering over buying this or a cheaper copy - don't! Get the Outwell, you won't regret it!
