I bought this tent after a disaster with the Airbeam 800 and all I can say is what a great tent! It can be a bit of a struggle to put up if its windy but we can do it in about 45 mins now and thats just the second time up,

The space inside really is fantastic with plenty of living space and plenty cooking space, in fact it is quite tardis like, on the pitch is does not look that big but inside it feels huge! we are not light campers, we take everything you can think of and the Vermont xl handles it with ease, my only gripe is the toggle in ground sheet should have more toggles in to keep it fixed better

We used this tent over the June 16th to 20th and it was windy most of the time but inside the Vermont xl I felt very well insulated from the elements and the tent was rock solid

I bought this as a package deal with carpet and footprint and I am chuffed to bits, the only upgrade would be a caravan but it would have to be a big one to compete with the size of this green monster!

I think we will call it the cathedral from now on! and its only losing one star for the lack of toggles on the toggle in ground sheet for the porch

We've owned a Vermont XL since the back end of 2009. During the 2010 season we went on 3 weekends and a fortnight's main holiday with it. We moved to it from an ancient frame tent - our two girls decided they no longer wished to share a room so we needed something with three beds, room to cooks inside and a decent size living space. The vermont xl gives all this. Everybody has their own camp bed - the small bedrooms comfortably take one each, the large centre room takes two single camp beds with room between them.

The main living area will take a 3x3 table as well as low rise cupboard unit as well as four or five folding armchairs. The wardrobe will take another low rise cupboard as well as hanging clothing above it. In the kitchen we have a large 4 seater table with integrated seats and a double width kitchen unit plus a whole row of trunks to carry all the kitchen equipment. We bought the footprint groundsheet and the carpet after a chilly first night away in Sept 09. We have also bought the Outwell M fan heater which when run on thermostat keeps the tent just warm enough overnight to remove the need for those trips to the loo when you wake up because when its just slightly warmer you don't need to go. The Outwell heater also kept condensation at bay.

The tent works really well. When its raining we only go in and out of the tent through the front to avoid water on the inner carpet. Pitching takes less than an hour, about the same time as assembling the furniture (we do camp in real comfort).

The secret to the taking down is to fold it and unfold it several times to force all the air out.

The two week holiday involved plenty of rain and apart from a couple of issues when the bath tub in the porch wasn't pulled up correctly everything was a dry as a bone.

You can spend many happy hours each playing with all the different window options - there are some many different combinations you can use. We also have extra poles so that one of the side doors can be lifted to form a very small awning.

If you want to make a real monster of a tent lift the whole front to add another six feet. Not necessarily a good idea on anything but the calmest of days.

The only design issue is there's no light hanging point in the porch - with a tent as big as this you really need to have more overhead lighting. All in all a really great tent.

The only way to really describe this tent is WOW what a tent so much space four of us rattled around like marbles in a biscuit barrel the wardrobe is great for keeping the tent tidy.

The porch area is so much bigger than our last tent great for the kitchen area. I would recommend getting the carpet and footprint to help pitching this behemoth of a tent the carpet keeps the heat in a treat.

I have found a trick to getting this tent back into the bag every time after a few trial and error attempts well more than a few but got it to an art now.

Nothing could move this tent when its up we had a good wind in Shropshire on a rainy bank holiday other tents looked like giving in but we hardly felt it at all.

All in all when we need to change this tent in a few years time we will be getting another. If anyone needs to know how to get this tent into the bag give us a shout and I will bestow upon you the wisdom.

We bought this tent as newbie campers. Considered several other tunnel type tents but decided to go for this one due to the size of the bedrooms, living area and separate porch area, but mainly because of the fact that the two large living spaces can be joined into one HUUUUGE living space and then opened fully to the outside, giving a massive space.

Having had one short break away, it took just under an hour to put up and about the same time to take down. I'm sure it could be down quicker with a bit of experience, but i'm happy with the time its taken so far. I think it does need 2 adults to put up and take it down, although we were ably (!) assisted by a couple of children. The tent fitted well when putting it back into the bag - but do take note of how it folds up when taking it out of the bag.

Bedrooms are spacious, each of them easily accommodating a double airbed, with the middle bedroom being a little wider. We have 2 girls and one boy. 2 girls go in one side bedroom and our son in the other bedroom, The adults have the slightly larger middle bedroom. As much as anything, this separates the kids a bit so they do go to sleep.

We used the small separate room as a storage area, keeping everything tidied away.

We bought a package with the footprint and carpet included. Really glad we did as it adds a bit extra comfort for the newbie camper.

There is plenty of room for just about anything in this tent, also with two side doorways - you have the ability to have a separate covered entrance into the main living area, or raising the front entrance-way to provide a covered entrance to the huge living area.

Ventilation is good throughout, and everything appears well constructed so far

After putting the tent up on our first excursion, the heavens opened, and it was great to be able to sit inside with the chairs, pump up the airbeds and sort out all the bedrooms without getting in the slightest bit damp

I love this tent, and am so pleased we got this one instead of the others we looked at - there is so much space.

I love this tent, it's HUGE!

Plus points:

SIZE

Easy to put up once you know how.

Features - Wardrobe, Carpet, Pockets, Bedrooms

Good build quality

Bad points, Front doors a bit low and naf in the wet.

However, we also had the side extension (open front) which we found was made for the L not the XL. The top flapped about like crazy in the wind. We have not purchased the side Awning (with full door). We are going to use this as the kitchen area. We will be able to put both awning and extension on at once, one on each side and it will be huge! Cant wait until we next go camping. JIM

This tent is FANTASTIC. I would have scored it a 10 but it was a bit difficult to put up. However, after reading some of the conversations in the ukcampsite forum, I think there are easier ways of pitching than the method we used. Once up (an hour with 2 people), the Vermont XL is HUGE, with lots of handy storage meshes. Outwell really have thought of everything - including a walk-in wardrobe! We actually used this little cupboard to house our toilet to keep it out of reach of the kids. The separate bedrooms allow privacy and the front porch area is a great place for the adults to sit while the kids play safely in the main living area. Overall, I highly recommend this tent, especially for those with children.

We 'downgraded' from a trailer tent to this huge tent - you can't fault it for space and it's much warmer than our trailer tent. Plenty of space for indoor living and great windows / vents / fly-sheet / opening options for when the weather is fine or when you need to pack up in the rain (you can reverse a family car or trailer into the first section and pack the boot in the dry :-))

First time we put it up we both had cuts from catching our fingers where the clips snap onto the poles and it certainly took us more time than the U-tube video suggested!

Our one grumble is the sloping doorways - when it rains (which lets face it, it does a LOT in this country) the rain sheets down the canvas onto you or the groundsheet when you open the door to go in / out; you can end up with a puddle at the entrance as a result.

Putting it back in the bag is IMPOSSIBLE but otherwise a good quality tent - I'm sure we'll get another Outwell when we need another change.

We purchased out XL is July 2010 and got off to shell Island where we could really stretch out and we could not believe how big this tent was!

I had only seen pictures of it on the net and its massive inside, the build quality is very good and as we found out spending 10 days in sunny Wales it soon turned out to be not so sunny. We have 2 young children and there is lots of room for them to play if you don't fancy getting soaked braving the weather, Loads of space in the porch area to get all the kitchen gear in leaving a huge living area to do with what you will.

We cant really fault this tent and it stood upto the weather that was thrown at it. Recommend to anyone - we showed a few interested passers by around our setup and there was lots of tent envy going on that we certainly never had with our old Vango Diablo 900.

Fantastic family tent. Very spacious allowing good organisation for longer family camping holidays! Easy for two people to erect and the all in one design is quick and convenient. We had ours up and pegged out in about 25 mins. The large porch is very useful as a kitchen area. Even in poor weather there is enough space for a table inside and still room for the children to play. The generous sized windows allow in plenty of light. All in all an excellent tent for any camping holiday!

Fantastic huge tent, with the side extension which is new to us this year, which is a bit of a pain to put up but once up its a great addition, well worth the hassle,(the trick we've found is to tie an extra guyline to the 3 that go over the tent then tie a peg on the end and lob it over, then attach extra guylines to the guys and peg them down on the far side of the tent.

We used to struggle to put up the tent by Outwells instructions but this has been transformed by a video I found on You Tube, so quick and easy you'll never struggle again! (http://www.Youtube.Com/watch?v=HdLpxDCQkHs). Pretty much the perfect tent for us with the side extension and carpet, plenty of room for the family, cooker, fridge and toilet, fantastic!

Manufacturer's Description

The Vermont XL has been discontinued, and replaced for 2012 with the Vermont XLP - there are 2 fundamental changes in the new XLP - the first is that the windows are now all tinted which will have the effect of minimising the glare from the sun but also of improving privacy. The second is that the front of the tent has been re-designed to incorporate a Panoramic Room - a large fully enclosed front porch area with a 4-zip multi-door opening which allows you to open up the entire front of the tent converting the room from an enclosed porch to a sun room .

The XLP has it's own listing on this site.
