Great tent, easy to put up / take down. No problems in wind or rain. Living area just about big enough for table & chairs when the weather is bad. Great value for money.

Plenty of space in sleeping area for family of 4 plus bags. Lots of handy storage pockets.

Packs up fairly small & easy to lift.

The Vango icarus 500 five berth -is a great tent especially for short breaks. Easy to erect and take down as long as 2 available. Used over weekend and was fully waterproof and withstood very high winds. The living area also roomy and large enough for 3 adults and 2 children even fitted in a travel cot. The tent dries quickly after having rain. Considering buying the Vango canopy for next camping trip. We also bought a groundsheet to fit tent and this is an excellent marker when positioning tent on site. The carpet also helps to make the tent cosy.

Not sure when the tent was made, I bought it at carboot for Ł40 and have used it once with just my wife and I. With just two there is plenty of room and it would be suitable for four. It was easy to erect although I over tightened one of the groundsheet straps and caused a small tear in the side wall of the groundsheet.A small repaired will make as good as new. It stood up well to three nights of storms, the end of hurricane Bertha, and we were still dry and cosy. I don't have the canopy for the front which in my opinion is definitely a must have before the next trip. Overall a great tent

Owned several tents and this is the best Vango is a great make and have now purchased the porch to match which is great for setting up your cooking and dining equipment and leaving your tent space free as living accommodation we don't take the kids anymore but space is plenty but would not fancy five adults in the space available, we now use the second bedroom as a walk in wardrobe!

This is the best tent I have owned for the money. I am extremely impressed by it. It was new this year and we went away in July and it was tested by a massive storm and downpour, and it didn't leak a bit or strain in the winds. We felt snug and warm and safe. The sleeping compartment is darkened which helps for a good night's sleep and the mesh inner doors make it possible to keep the main doors open in the hot weather but without the insects! The only down side is the sloping doors mean that rain gets in if the outer door is opened. It could do with a small porch. Also, the tent heats up very quickly in the sun, great for cold weather, but at times it was really hot. Over all though, I highly recommend this tent.

Love this tent! Just enough space for 2 adults, 2 kids and 2 dogs. Back to nature and family time. Only down side, is cannot locate an awning anywhere! Tent withstood torrential downpours and winds. Only downside is bedrooms are made of rather delicate material and under pressure tend to rip easily.

I've recently bought this tent as had to purchase a larger tent due to my daughter getting older.My requirements were a tent of decent size,a decent hh and easy to to put up and take down.In the Icarus 500 I've found a cracker which meets all my requirements and I'm very happy with it. I read loads of reviews before buying it and agree it does have its faults but for the price you have to expect it to have some.I also bought the footprint,carpet and awning.The awning takes away the problem of water getting in the front door when opening and closing it when it's raining.I recently used the tent down near Alton towers and it stood up to the wind and rain no problems.

We are a family of 3 and this tent fits us well. There is enough room in the sleeping area for a double air bed on one side and a small readybed on the other. If / when we expand the family we will be looking for a new tent though. A double air bed, readybed and travel cot would be a bit of a squash.

The tent is easy to put up (loosely peg out corners, insert poles, peg out everything else) and can be done solo in (probably, never timed it) 15-20 mins. The fiberglass poles look and feel like they could snap at any minute but haven't so far, so I guess they are tougher than they look. It is even easier to take down solo.

There are issues with the design, but they are the same issues most tunnel tents suffer from. The doors are both on an inward slope so will drip water in if used in the rain. Mesh covers on both doors are useful and allow us to leave the front door open with the mesh closed when the canopy is added, to keep out insects.

We have the footprint and carpet. The footprint really makes a difference when it comes to packing up - the tent groundsheet has always been almost bone dry, allowing me to quickly fold and roll it up. I have never had problems getting it back into the bag either, so the bag size is generous enough.

One thing we have found is this tent quickly heats up when the sun gets on it. I guess this is a combination of the dark colour (we have a dark green one) and the polyester material.

I have a Icarus 500 with canopy and have to admit it's one of the best tents I believe you can purchase to get into camping.

3,000hh but new versions now 4,000hh easy to put up and take down and pack away. Has held up to strong winds and rain and never been worried using it.

It's more of a comfortable 2 person or 2+2 small kids than a 5 berth tent.

Adding a carpet does help to have the cosy feel but if you after a good quality, easy to put up with enough space get this tent.

We've used the Icarus 500 for 3 long weekend type trips now and I like it a lot considering how cheap it was (bought in a sale at the end of summer 2010 but a new addition to the family delayed camping until early summer 2013!).

We are a family of 2 adults and 2 under 5's and for us this is just the right size, at the time I found it tricky to find a budget tent with a side by side bedroom arrangement rather than vis-a-vis which we need with children being the age they are. We can comfortably fit a double and 2 child length single sims in the bedroom areas with space for clothes holdalls as well.

On our last trip we rigged a tarp for a covered dining area which was a definite plus, I can see how people recommend an extension for longer trips. In wet weather however, we can fit our fold up table and stools in the living area and still move around. We don't camp with a lot of stuff (going by some of the pics here!) and find there is enough room for the things we need and this leaves a play space for the children in the living area too when the table is outside. The floor to ceiling pockets between the bedrooms are good as the top pockets are out of reach from little fingers, the side pockets in the bedrooms are great for their stuff. The top part of the bedroom doors can be unzipped to leave mesh on these is great for checking on the kids when they are sleeping as well as for ventilation.

My only gripe would be the need for a rain porch of some sort on really wet days as the slope means the inside of the tent does get wet when you go in and out the tent but a bit of common sense can minimalise this.

We've never had a problem putting it up - it's pretty idiot proof - but always forget the correct folds to get it back in the bag, must right a note on the bag (in 6th's length ways!).
