3 Reviews of the Polish Army Lavvu Teepee

Further adaptability of this simple little tent now shown in the photos above. With the addition of a simple tarp and a washing line pole (£3)

Obviously the pitching angle can vary as much as you wish, in this case it's fairly high, and again I apologise for the washing in the background!

Not only does the addition give protection in the open doorway if it's raining, but obvious cooking or storage space if needed.Or just chilling!

So in the pictures with the tarp the mods are:

1/ a zip

2/ small loops on the perimeter

3/ A frame instead of centre poles supplied

4/ cheap tarp with washing line pole.

But the tent actually needs NONE of these to provide good weatherproof shelter.

At the time of writing this BEWARE some of these are being advertised for silly money, obviously getting harder to find, but should be around £30 now if you search a bit?

Just superb.See original review.

Following on from above.A bit of hybridisation from a respondent on the Song of a Paddle Forum.

The A frame from the Blacks GC Standard is just PERFECT (I know, I've done it) from which to hang the lavvu, and then no centre pole and more space. One can customise an A frame from Blacks Vango and Force 10 spares on line and its not expensive.

The versatility of this tent is boundless!

This is really a 1 man tent with kit. Two is Familiar. It has a floor plan of 7 feet diameter. It is hugely strong and stable and some use small stoves therein, with chimneys through the button close sleeve holes.

It is a very effective canvas tent, and can be opened right up if required, and a small groundsheet used inside. Being canvas and green, it is cool in hot weather and warmer than plastic tents when cold, and I have found it very watertight, although it can obviously be proofed.

Maybe not the first choice for backpacking (weighs about 3 kg, and packs to about 2 cu feet), but perfect for the canoe or wild camping, or motorbike. And that lovely smell of canvas!

A fabulous piece of kit, and available from about £20 (MilitaryMart) at time of writing

The tents as supplied were manufactured in the 70's and still have their paper tickets sown to them. As supplied they were as new, ie had not been issued. As they are an ex military item.

Many people modify them in all sorts of ways, such as zips instead of button closures: I have added little loops from the circumferential pegging eyelets, and use a sawn off adjustable washing line pole (£3) as the tent pole, but they do come with a 4 section pole and pegs. The pegs are the cheap alloy pins, so I have upgraded those too. But it IS ready to go as supplied. There is lots of info. And stuff on youtube as well.
