We purchased the Virginia 5 at the end of 2011 from Yeoman's as part of a prize I won on UKCS.
We also purchased the footprint, carpet and extension and so glad we did as it made the tent like home from home.
It was very easy to put up with two of us doing it and from start to finish including pegging out & putting extension on it took about 45mins. Having the footprint was good too as a guide. So glad we had the foot print as when we took the tent down after 11 nights it was great to be able to put our tent away with out all the mud underneath.
We had every sort of weather from torrential rain, wind & sunshine. The tent stood up well to it all, one night was torrential rain & it was great lying in bed listening to the rainfall & knowing we were not going to get soaking wet.
The extension was great as even when it was raining we could still sit out side.
The only fault I found was one of the loops to tie the door up when its rolled up was sewn on the wrong way round so could not be accessed but I still managed to tie the door by using another loop.
As far as I am aware they have now stopped making this model of tent but if you want a good sized tent that is waterproof & you can stand up in comfortably then this is the tent to buy if you can.

I purchased the Outwell Virginia last year after looking at Hi-Gear and Vango tents at a similar price. I decided to go with the Virgina due to the excellent reviews and the reputation of Outwell Tents.
We love this tent, as a couple it is a perfect size. I would say however that although it states 2 bedrooms the divider is basically just a piece of mesh that doesn't provide any privacy so unless you are a close family I wouldn't recommend it! The front area of the tent is a really nice size. We have sat in when it is raining and have easily fit in 2 chairs, a table and suitcases, bbq's etc. The window are a really nice touch and stops you feeling closed in. The only problem I have is that we were planning on buying the front canopy and carpet this year but they are no longer in stock and are impossible to find. This would be really useful for a bit of extra space but more importantly for somewhere to cook when the rain arrives. I have read that a Vango Icarus 500 canopy will fit but the colour is pretty different. This is the only reason why I have given it 9 out of 10.
With regards to pitching, this is really easy but I'm not sure I would be able to erect it on my own as it is quite heavy when putting up the poles. There are lots of guy ropes and it comes with sturdy plastic pegs rather than the little metal ones and so it feels really secure when the wind gets up. We have been in it in wind and rain and have not had any leaks. It is also really simple to put down and this I have done on my own. It rolls up easily and goes back into the bag with no problems.
This year I am using 2 poles that my dad gave me to turn the front door into a rain cover. This works reasonably well with 2 extra guy ropes and a windbreak when it is raining and you want to cook.
Overall I would 100% recommend the Virginia for couples and small families. I believe that Yeomans are stocking them again this year as they were so popular last year. I just hope they bring back the canopy and carpet! Fingers crossed!

Everyone before me says it all about this tent. It is brilliant, has been tested by the climate apart from sunshine. A pain that accessories are not available. Maybe we should set a bring back campaign. Because why should we have the rolls Royce of tents but a ford or lada or canopies

Bought the tent, footprint and front extension in January/February 2012 and have used it three times. Twice in this country - once at Easter and once for a weekend in July - and for five nights in the Lot Valley in France.
We love our tent and would thoroughly recommend getting the footprint and front extension if you can. The footprint is great for checking out where you want to pitch - we are novices as this is our first tent that we have owned, although we have spent many holidays camping with Canvas and Eurocamp abroad - and the extension enables us to leave our tables and kitchen set up outside, this is particularly useful when there are all four of us and the dog.
It feels spacious for two, even with camp beds, with lots of space in the bedroom. We have got 4 of us in the bedroom, the two 'children' (20 and 18 and taller than us) in with a squeeze on sims; dog was not impressed but she is used to a king sized bed!
Would be cramped for 4 in bad weather. We bought it for our trip to France in August and it proved very successful even with the 'cosiness' of the sleeping situation. We did give the kids the choice of taking their own small tent but they opted to sleep in our tent so couldn't be too bad.
On one of the UK trips it rained heavily and the tent coped really well, no leaks and withstood the squally weather. The only negative was that the side door porch collected water so periodically needed emptying.
Very impressed with the quality and features such as the storage pockets and the windows which let in plenty of light. We are really pleased with the ease of putting it up - even for us novices.
Wanted a reasonably priced mid sized tent and we are extremely pleased with our purchase.

Brilliant - we love it! Like probably most tents the manufacturers are overoptimistic with the capacity; we are 3 adults plus dog (2A + 2CH fine, 4A max) but we had loads of space for sleeping, eating in the living area & storage. Storage pockets brilliant & easy to reach from the bedrooms. Plenty of headroom too (my menfolk both being 6' this was necessary!) As we suffer from bugbites the mesh over the doors essential for us but not all tents have this. Love all the windows in the living area - makes having to sit in on a wet evening so much nicer.
Pitching fine - one person could do it if tall enough but far easier with two. We have the footprint which makes pitching/packing on wet ground much, much easier. AND.It goes back in the bag without a fight too!
Only reason didn't give 10/10 was because we had to buy porch poles separately for the front door - they really could have come with it for a few more quid.

I don't really wish to add to all the positive reviews of this tent (it is an extremely weatherproof tent) but just wanted to say that we purchased the Vango Icarus 500 enclosed canopy for our recent trip to Keswick.
It virtually doubled the living space and although not of the same quality as the Virginia, served its purpose and fitted extremely well (withstood 12 hours of severe gales).
I know this tent is no longer being sold (cannot understand why not) but if you have one and wish to increase its size, the Vango Icarus 500 extension is perfect (especially if you can get it for £50 as we did.

We recently purchased this tent as it was on offer with the foot print and the carpet for £200 new and I've got to say I'm very happy with our purchase. After having an Outwell Montana 6 we downsized after the seals went on the big tent and was too costly to repair we were worried about the size. However it fitted 4 of us comfortably but then we had purchased a front extension which all our bags and cooking gear were out in.
We have just spent the wettest weekend in the lake district in it, they had a months rainfall in 24hrs and gale force winds.
The tent withstood it all. We had a few drips at the back but with the weather we had im not at all surprised with that and was more than happy. The 1 thing I will suggest though is don't get the Virginia front extension as it is open fronted, we bought the Vango Icarus 500 extension and it fits it perfectly and has a zipped front that is fully closable.
All in all its a fab tent for a 2.4 family :)

I have recently purchased the Outwell Virginia 5 and I am very impressed with it. For the price you cannot grumble about its build quality, or performance, however. This tent is classed as a 5 person tent, but more like a comfortable 4 person tent instead. The sleeping pod is fine, there is enough room to get 2 double airbeds side by side (with partition up of course). Then you move into the living area of the tent and it is slightly let down by its size and head room. This is due to the pitch from the bottom of the front opening to the top, and that it is a tunnel tent. I am 6'1' and you have about 5ft in the middle of the tent that your head does not touch the roof.
We recently went to Lower Hyde, Shanklin, IOW to camp as we have just down-sized from an 8 person Eurohike Buckingham 8 to the Outwell. The Outwell is far better as it is brighter and feels roomier, and also has the sown in groundsheet. It took my wife and me only 20 mins to erect the Outwell Virginia 5, compared with 45mins/1hr for the Buckingham.
One big problem with the new 2012 model is the rain cover over the side doorway. It is too low, very low! If I didn't duck before going in or coming back out I would hit myself on it. This isn't too problematic exiting the tent, but it is if you forget it going in as I painfully found out. The tension bar to hold it in place is at my throat level - hence it was painful.
Overall this tent is a fantastic tent for the price, but if you truly want a decent 5 man tent buy the Outwell Oakland XL.

I purchased the Outwell Virginia 5 tent from Yeomans last week and have so far spent a weekend away in it. I had watched the video for the Outwell Winniepeg on Argos which is basically the same so was confident that we would be able to put it up fine. It was easy to put up but not as easy as the video led me to believe. The main problem is the weight but once you get the three poles up and fixed it really is simple, would need 2 people though. The great thing is that you don't need to put the bedroom pod up separatley so if you need to set up in the rain the inside won't get wet. The only problem we had was that one of the zips to the bedroom compartment was split, I managed to rethread it but it still wouldn't open fully. I emailed Yeomans on the Monday morning and they ordered me a new pod straight away and were very prompt in getting back to me.
The bedroom is spacious but I think you would struggle to get 5 airbeds in there and the divider is more of a token gesture but if you're staying with family that wouldn't be a problem.
The front section is also a good size and all the windows are great if you are stuck inside. My partner is 6ft 2in and he could stand up fine. It would be better if the front panel also had a window but that is a small complaint. There is plenty of room to set up chairs and cooking equipment if you are unable to go outside and the porch over the side door means that if the wind is blowing in the right direction you can have that door open in the rain and keep dry.
We had a lot of wind and rain whilst we were away and there were no leaks and the tent didn't really flap at all.
The pegs that come with the tent are also great, sturdy, blue plastic ones and not the little metal ones that come with many tents. There are also loads of guy ropes which are a bit of a pain when you're hammering them all in but were really reassuring when the wind picked up. We also managed to get the tent back in the bag easily first time, we watched another couple putting theirs down and copied their trick of one of us rolling across the folded tent whilst the other one rolled it up and that worked a treat and was kind of fun too!
We love this tent, but having had a nightmare weekend in a small dome tent we would be easily impressed! The space for 2 is great and would probably be ok for a small family as you tend to spend most of your time outside anyway. It's nice and airy so you don't wake up feeling like someone is holding a pillow over your face but then we haven't tried it in hot weather yet and looking at the forcast we may not do so this year!
All in all I would recommend this tent, it's of a really high quality and excellent value for money. I'm really glad that I ruled the others out and went for this one.

Fantastic tent for our first family camping trip!
I agree with other reviews that would struggle to get 5 airbeds in. Perfect for the 4 of us and the bedroom divide was ideal to keep an eye on our 4 year old twins.
The pitch instructions were not detailed enough, but nonetheless we managed to erect it without too much of a struggle. Once the poles are in the tent is quite heavy, so definitely need two to pitch it.
Great front space with plenty of windows, and side door is good with its canopy. Plenty of storage space. Excellent headroom - my husband is 6'2.
Can't wait to go again!
