Great tent for the price. First tent purchase to use for myself, husband and two year old son. Plenty of space, much more than we expected. Initially we had a problem erecting it, not a fault of the tent, it was us who are novices but we have learned from our mistake, we had the guy ropes pulled to tight and the tent twisted out of shape. Loved the sleeping area. My only downside is the living area is not a sewn in groundsheet but what do you expect for the price, it is a lot of tent for the money and I would recommend.

This is our third tent in a few months 1st too small 2nd manufacturer problems, this tent gets top marks.
Easy enough to put up and plenty of space for the two of us. On an evening it was cold but there was plenty of room in the porch for our 2 chairs and table.
Says its sleeps 5 that would a bit too cosy for my liking, 3 could sleep comfortable.
It didn't rain when we were away so cant comment on the waterproof rating. Tent appeared to be on good quality and plenty of pockets for storage.
Would recommend this tent to others

Like many of the other reviewers, I too bought mine from Go Outdoors for a bargain price. I used this site to decide on my tent and am so glad I did that. I used my tent for the first time in August 2010 in Scotland. I have never pitched a tent and it’s the first time I’ve camped as an adult so I am a true novice. The instructions were very poor and thankfully I got help from a fellow camper when putting it up for the first time and second time. The second time simply because I was near the ocean and the wind was pretty bad. Overall, it is dead easy to put up once you actually know what to do. The only difficulty was getting the pins in a couple of the sides. I thought the pole would snap and my fingers would snap when trying to get the last few pins in. Once in though, it was fine. We had gale force winds and torrential rain on our first night and the tent was still in one piece in the morning. More torrential rain and winds followed a few days later when we were near the coast and the tent did allow a few drips in. However, given how much rain hit the tent and the fact I don’t think I did everything perfectly in setting it up, I didn’t mind as I think it was more about the user opposed to the tent. I am 5’8 and found the tent comfortable to walk around in – no crouching and crawling around which was bliss. With just two of us, this tent is perfect for the not so great camping days as we were able to get our table and chairs in comfortably to the front section and could eat and play games in comfort. The sleeping section is excellent because it kept 100% of the midges out due to the net like interior section. The net section also allowed air in so it was not sweltering like other tents which don’t have an inner skin. The sleeping area is spacious and we got the double air bed in with plenty of space left for rolling off the airbed in the morning and for food boxes and bags of clothes etc. The option of having two entrances is excellent as we kept the front section open during the day so we could look out from the comfort of the front section of the tent and used the side section to come in and out during the night. The window flaps on the front of the tent which zip open from the inside allow you decide whether you want privacy or not. It’s nice to have that first thing in the morning and at night. There is gauze like vent on the front panel of the tent and we found this useful for during the day because we could keep the tent ventilated while out and about without having to come back to a tent like a sauna. There is also a vent at the back of the tent and both are zipped up and down from the outside. I would totally recommend this tent and can’t wait for our next camping trip. It may seem a little luxurious to have a big tent for 2 people but if you are away for a few days it makes all the difference having space to live in and enjoy – camping does not have to be about a canvass cell - space and freedom is what it's about.

Bought this from Go-Outdoors as a cheepo festival tent. Got it for the bargain price of fifty quid which you cant argue with. Very easy to pitch and can be done single handedly in around 20 mins. OK it does not have a SIG which we are used to but the bedroom pod is sewn in. Little storage pockets sewn into the bedroom pod and the living area. A few windows in the living area too which is great. Cant comment on the HH as it did not rain but going by the previous reviews it seems to hold up. All in all a great wee buy if you can pick it up at the price we paid. Don't however think it is worth its RRP of 170 notes.

Really quick to pitch, even when having to do so alone.
Outer goes up 1st and can be done in as little as ten mins. Letting you attach the inner while dry and at your leisure.
Been in high winds and fairly stable but in severe rain unless all guys are very taught found that water can pool and leak through the seams.
No ground sheet on outer means water gets in living area but even in severe rain this is minimal.

I`ve done a fair share of camping but in smaller tents so myself and my partner decided to invest in one of these before heading to Scotland in 2009 mainly because of the bargain price & because we fancied the bigger space. We stopped on route to overnight on the Hardknock pass in the Lakes intending to use our 3 man tent as it was only one night but we couldn`t wait to try the Atakama so we put it up.
The pole system is not unlike our 3 man so no problems encountered. Our next stop was a one nighter at Oban & everything was fine. The third night was was Durness on the north west tip of Scotland, on arrival there was a pretty high wind blowing but we decided we fancied a sea view & commenced the erection process near the cliff edge,it was of course a wrong decision & two poles broke during the attempt so we found a more sheltered spot, lashed the poles with string and successfully pitched although the tension looked very odd, I don`t blame the manufacturer for this by the way.
Next stop was on Orkney by which time we had obtained some gaffa tape to reinforce the repair (you don`t find replacement poles this far north). Another very windy night claimed another pole possibly because of the already weakened structure but we continued the holiday & enjoyed it. Other windy conditions coming on to a corner showed a tendency to force the the poles into a reverse arc so if you intend to use one of these in such terrain I advise you obtain a spare set of guy ropes to double up on the corners & peg them at slightly opposite angles to reinforce the set of the poles.
This tent is made by Gellert so 11mm poles cut to length fit fine.We done the Outer Hebrides this year (2010) and subsequently Cornwall with no disasters until we last took the tent down when we found one of the living area poles had broken, we have no idea why so I`ll dismantle & replace the section this winter because I intend to head north again in 2011.
To summarise, I have had problems, but don`t blame the tent & I think it stands side by side with much more expensive tents of similar design.
Note:- We can erect this tent in 20 mins working as a team and would suggest fitting both front ring pins first as it spreads the tension tape & offers a reference to square on to.

We got this tent like many others from go outdoors for £59.00 - there are two of us and the dog and we all sleep in the bedroom area with plenty of room. The living area is big enough for a couple of chairs and a table which is great when its raining and the windows let in plenty of light. We are camping novices but took us about an hour to put the tent up, do air beds and kit the whole place out which is good going. We bought this tent as you could stand up in it, I have no complaints so far. Its a great tent for us beginners, but I imagine it will be a long time before I trade it in. I'm, now on the look out for a porch that will go with this tent to do the cooking in and a reasonably price tent carpet to make it cosy.

Used this tent three times now, and found it to be excellent value for the £50 paid. I can erect it in around 20 minutes now (in decent weather), and find it no problem as long as you get the poles square. Getting the living space pole right can be a bit of a nuisance.
I've had it up in pretty heavy rain with only a couple of drips being blown through the vent at the rear of the bedroom.
For a family of four (two eight year olds) it works pretty well. The sleeping area is big enough to get a double airbed and two single airbeds in (just!) and the living area is ok for short periods.
No damage to speak of yet, and looking forward to our next wee trip.

Used this for the first time last weekend. Had to put it up in incredible windy weather, and managed pretty well with the assistance of my teenage son. Have to say having owned many tents that I'm pretty impressed with this. Withstood high winds, stormy downpours and kept us dry and warm the whole time. Straightforward to erect and pack away, and joy of joys a tent that actually fits back in its bag! Do agree with other comments about the groundsheet being a tiny bit small although we fared ok. Do like the bright guyropes, small point but useful and noticed and commented on by other campers. Great value tent that I think will get a lot of use.

As it was our first trip and I wasn't sure if my partner or daughter would enjoy camping, so we also bought our tent from Go Outdoors for £57 in the sale.A bargain!
I managed to single handedly erect this tent in my garden on a trial run. Took me about 1 1/2hrs though. I thought I was a novice camper but having read other reviews on the ring and pin system I now realise I am not.I got it guys, come on!
I do agree that the instructions sewn into the bag are not exactly helpful and the strap across the front door can be a trip hazard. We overcame that on our second outing (or so I thought) by pegging it down this time. But I still managed to trip on it. So its still not a good point for me.
Our first expedition was perfect, super hot weather until the last day. Gale force winds and lack of experience resulted in the fly sheet flipping over on its back into the adjacent Pitch which thankfully was empty. Our own fault entirely as we de-pegged the whole thing first before removing the poles! Don't ask me why! It was very funny and proved to be a bonus in teaching us how to take the tent down quickly the second time. Without the Mary Poppins effect, which did amuse our fellow campers.
All in all a very good tent. On our second trip we pegged it out properly (all guys ropes included) and it was totally solid. We had one torrential downpour and no leaks just a bit of condensation. I'm not sure how warm it will be in high winds because as stated in an earlier review, the storm flaps are only on the porch and nowhere else on the fly sheet, so you are open to a few draughts but then at least your also getting fresh air too I guess!
Personally, I cant wait to go camping again. We got ourselves a camp kitchen folding unit for the living area (also from Go Outdoors) and we do not use the bedroom separator, finding this area very spacious for 2 adults and one child (on camp beds).
We did use the front door as a porch which pegged out quite nicely and was solid, also good for cooking under.
So far so good in my view

Manufacturer's Description
With large living /storage and sleeping areas, the Atakama 5 is ideal for families having a long weekend away, or any groups of campers who may need space to store gear and spread around.
It is a double skin tent, with the outer pitched first to keep things simple, and a breathable inner to keep you comfortable.
The outer flysheet is 190T PU coated polyester with taped seams and a hydrostatic head of 3000, meaning it's rugged enough to handle scrapes and waterproof enough to take the heaviest downpours.
For warmer conditions, the breathable inner and large side and front doors will make sure the inside is ventilated enough so you and your kit are not overheating. The front door can be extended out as a canopy using the steel porch poles, offering shelter from sun or showers.
The porch/living area has a pre-attached groundsheet, making it easy for you to keep a clear, clean space for furniture, bikes etc., and keeping the bedroom area draught-free.
For extra stability, the tent has pre-attached double guylines, so it will easily withstand any strong gusts of wind. The guylines themselves are bright and reflective, to help you to find the tent in the dark, and to stop other campers from tripping over them if you're in a busy campsite.
Other useful features include slick pole sleeves to aid pitching, fire-retardant fabrics, and large windows to allow maximum light in if you need it.
A simple, yet versatile tent for easy group camping.
