I have just bought a second hand bl6 after reading so many good things about them. I have given the tent 8 out of 10 because we have only done a test pitch so far to see if everything was as it should be. Fortunately I was not disappointed the tent was like new and seems very well made. The main two things that I noticed over our last tent (Vango diablo) was 1 how stable the tent is and 2 the Polly cotton made the tent feel much nicer inside as we sat in it to get out of the sun which would have boiled us in our old 100% polyester tent.
The bl6 also seems a very well thought out design. I especially like the air vents and zipped Windows. The ground sheet also seems to be very very thick and would expect it to last a long time along with the oily cotton.
My wife and I managed to get the tent pitched with the sun canopy and bedrooms installed in just under 30 mins. I didnt peg down all the guys though so saved 5 mins there. I really don't know how some people on hear are taking 1 1/2 to 2 hrs to put the bl6 up, must be moving in slow motion or something as it really is child's play.
We will be going away for a week next month so will write an update and maybe mark it up a point once I know it satisfactorily weather proof which the previous owner assures me it is.
Can't wait to give it a real test.

Upgraded our sunncamp vario 6 to the Bear Lake 6. Pitched it for the first time this week had to do this on my own while my wife kept our two kids busy and it was easy I used the one pole in at a time method starting from the front and working towards the back then I pulled the canopy up at the end. To get everything set up right down to opening a bottle of wine to celebrate took just under two hours.
It is a big tent and comes in two very large bags which were larger coming home than they were going but I packed it up in a bit of a hurry with dark clouds threatening and in heavy winds so I am gonna have to repack it when the weather is better as space is of premium in our car. I did not bother weathering the tent before use as it clearly says on all the literature provided that this is NOT required on our two day stay at Top End Farm in Beds we had typical British weather HEAVY rain, strong wind And Sunshine the tent was completely water tight and hardly moved in the wind when the sun shone. It stayed very comfortable inside by just opening a couple of side vents above the windows.
All in all I think you would be hard pushed to find a better tent it was pricey but worth it. We are looking forward to spending many holidays around the country in a fantastic tent.

A follow up to our December review, we have sewn sleeves on the tarp to accept the tent & canopy poles.
We will only cook outside the tent and winds & rain seem to follow us (at least in the UK) so this easy enough modification really fits the bill.
We are extremely pleased with the bear lake 6, it's a fab tent.

I bought the Bear Lake 6 at one of the Yeomans tent sales where they had 20% of the stated price of the tent.
We had seen some bad weather in our old tent which coped well but was a little small for inside activities.
We wanted a poly cotton tent as it is robust and durable and keeps you cool / warm depending on the weather.
The first time we pithed it was simple with no problems - although I am not sure how easy it would be for 1 person.
The tent looked sturdy and well made when we had finished. We noticed there was a clip on the tent roof where the bedroom area was and thought that the related clip on the actual bedroom was missing. We contacted Yeomans who told us that this was an additional clip if you buy the childrens bedroom.
During our first trip the tent was great, lots of room, luxurious carpet and held up to the wind and rain.
We had the footprint so the ground sheet was clean when we had finished so really easy for packing away.

We chose the Bear Lake 6 for the large and high living area and the quietness in the wind (we looked around a few Yeomans set-ups in the wind). We have not been disappointed. The only downside is the weight of the tent, but it is worth the extra weight and space. Putting it up is easy - 4 poles all the same, thread through and stand up. It would be possible to do alone, but is much easier with a second pair of hands (even if from an 8 year old!). The groundsheet is extremely robust but we choose to use a footprint underneath to protect it and make pack up easier. The inner tent had one clip missing on our tent (I believe there were a few like this) and we must get one sorted, but the tent has been fine to use without it. We have 2 single SIMS in the 2 man bedroom with no extra room for bags, but with 3 SIMS in the 4 man room there is room for a row of holdalls down the middle. We have also liked the flexibility of being able to unzip the divider between the two rooms - it means you can get to the 2 year old for that night time loo trip without having to craal past the other children.
The tent has been warm in the cold and cool in the heat - just as polycotton should be. It barely rustles in the wind due to the side tension bar, but we have found that the velcro that keeps the side windows down is slightly misplaced. If the tent is pitched slightly differently then this pops open, particularly in the wind. This hasn't caused any problems, but I am working on getting a double sided bit of velcro just to make the link more secure.
We tend to use the front door (no problems on our model) but both side door can be opened for ventilation - either rolled up or using poles to have a canopy at one side.
There's not much else to be said that hasn't been said before. This is a lovely tent. It feels secure and you can feel the quality. And for a family of 5 I think it will suit us for many years.

We purchased the BL6 June 10 and only managed to use it for the first time May 11. What can I say about this tent? Its great, torrential rain and 50mph winds didn't bother it. On the days the sun was out it was nice and cool inside. The zip in ground sheet is nice and thick, much better than ground sheets on other less expensive tents. The footprint was given to us free by Yeomans and its a fabulous addition, thicker than most standard groundsheets and really protected the zipped in groundsheet. We added the carpet which is a nice touch and the sleeping pods are really spacious.
We camped over a week and the owners of the campsite kept commenting on the size of the BL6, likening it to a hall! The final weekend of our holiday was a bank holiday and we seen plenty of tent envy! People couldn't believe the size of the tent or how bright it looked due to the large panoramic windows. The only draw back we found was the curtains, they hang baggy and role up to the bottom leaving a bump in the tent material which allowed a little rain to seep in.
So in summary, yes its expensive, yes its heavy, but yes its a great tent! The best we've had, (were now looking for a smaller Outwell polycotton for weekend or one night trips), a great investment.

We bought the BL6 last year and it has been through some very rough weather. Whilst other tents(and campers) were giving up our tent stayed firm and did us proud. You can now get a front canopy for it making extra space. The tent is heavy! and does not pack away small. So we had to invest in a trailer as well. OK to put up, best with 2 people. All in all a fantastic tent. No tent envy here!

To be fair the tent is pretty much ideal for all family camping situations, from a weekend break to a week or two away.
The Bear Lake is pretty much the best all round tent money can buy.
The Polycotton material ensures you are kept cool in the morning while other campers are forced out of their ‘oven like’ tents, following the sunrise on a fine day.
Conversely this tent is extremely robust in poor weather; it can withstand the wind better than others, providing a safe haven in the unpredictable English weather.
Pitching is NOT a formidable task despite its size. The exoskeleton is made up of four semi circular poles, (five if you include the canopy), and is kept simple by the symmetrical (simple) design of the tent.
Consider carefully from where you purchase your Outwell tent!
Although prices vary considerably, ensure the retailer has a no quibble replacement/refund process on faulty/defective tents.
It is worth noting that Outwell refuse point blank to deal with the consumer. Outwell (Oase Outdoors) leave the customer service completely to the ‘tertiary company’, (the retailer).
In this case: Yeomans Outdoors who provided appalling customer service following purchase of a defective tent. They initially refused point blank to refund/replace, and generally made life very difficult.

WOW - what a tent, purchased in 2010 and used twice, plus left it up in the garden for 2 weeks in the worst gales. The tent does not move even when fence panels were blowing out.
I find it OK to put up by myself, but it is easier to have another person help feed the poles through.
Purchased the carpet and side extension which is ideal space for cooking.
Highly recommended, but make sure you have enough room to transport it.

Well I am sure what I am going to say has been said many times before but here goes.
We have had 2 BL6's now, the first we had in 2008 which we sold after 1 season to get a Norfolk Lake. Now the Norfolk was a good tent but we missed the BL so we sold it and went back to a BL6 last year and wished we had stayed with it from the start.
The Bear is a great tent which gives a secure feeling in any weather, its large enough for a family yet cosy enough on those cold wet evenings that we all love. The later all in one sleeping pod is far better than the earlier separate pods in our opinion as we can unzip the central panel and have extra room at the base of our rather large bed without feeling too closed in. The covered main entrance is the biggest plus point for us as we camp in the UK and lets face it it rains. Having a canopy makes the tent far more usable in bad weather for us, with the Norfolk you and the floor of the tent got wet when doing the loo dash.
The only negative I have with the BL is the curtain fixings. The velcro is not very well positioned or stitched tightly enough to the flysheet which means the curtains flop rather than fit neatly, small niggle not a major gripe.
All in all the BL6 is a fantastic tent and with the new extended canopy now available in 2011 it will make it the perfect tent for us and at that point a 10 out of 10.
