With a young family our first trip to the east Yorkshire coast was perhaps adventurous, peppered as it was with gale force winds and heavy rain. This was not a problem for us as the tent was easy to erect, incredibly stable in such high winds, and totally water-tight. The sewn in ground sheets are a first for us and fantastic. Yes there are problems with the porch fittings on the side doors. Tending to hit any approaching adult on the forehead so we didn't use them. This shouldn't distract from a great family tent with bags of room including that luxury headheight.

This is a message from Vango regarding the pitching DVD for the 2009 Amazon 600 and 800.
To ease the pitching and improve the stability of the 2009 Amazon tents we have changed the canopy pole and attachment system.
According to the pitching DVD you have 2 canopy poles which have holes in the upright section. However, as you may have noticed, all of the upright poles are now the same and therefore do not have holes in them.
The canopy now has a guyline which should be pegged to the ground at the base of the upright pole, meaning you no longer have to clip a hook into one of the holes in the upright pole.
As a result of this:
Amazon 600 now has 10 standard steel upright poles, not the 8, and 2 canopy poles with holes as mentioned in the DVD.
Amazon 800 now has 12 standard steel upright poles, not the 10, and 2 canopy poles with holes as mentioned in the DVD.

We bought this tent as our first family foray into camping. It seemed a quality item with a large living area. Unfortunately we had the same problem that some people have reported with the 900 model in that the seam hooks had either ripped or not been sewn properly. We eventually got a replacement after some bother but the same items ripped as soon as we erected the tent, (in the garden with no wind!).
On the positive, the living area is big and the tent is easy to pitch with 2 adults once you get the hang of it. Unfortunately we found the side doors were weak and leaked during hard rain and the tent was completely destroyed during bad wind in August, which was a disaster as other tents seemed to fair better.
We are currently reviewing our options!

With two young kids we decided that we needed some more space in our tent and you certainly get that with the Amazon 600. Spending two rather wet and windy weeks in Cornwall we ate breakfast inside the tent everyday, plenty of room for table and chairs amongst everything else.
The simple tunnel design means it is easy to erect with two people. When we put it up in the garden after purchase we forgot to put aside the poles for the su canopy with the pre-drilled holes in it, so watch out for them, could be a pain if we'd done that on holidays. The side doors overhangs as mentioned by another reviewer do seem a bit awkward and they don't seem to sit quite right but it's only a minor niggle.
While away we saw two Amazon 800's, they really are massive.
Very pleased with this tent.

We've just got back from 5 very wet days in the New Forest and it really stood the test of high winds and heavy rain!
We are first time campers and liked the Amazon 600 as it has a good sized living area and we were taking my teenaged daughter and her best friend so needed space for us all so we weren't under each others feet. It certainly did the job for us and I would recommend this tent to anyone - the canopy was ideal for our evening barbecues, even with the rain!
Can't wait to use it again, hopefully next time we will be able to benefit from opening the three doorways instead of hurriedly closing them to keep the elements away.

We have now had 2 trips in our tent and we love it. We have 2 young children and find the large living space ideal.
We only use 2 of the bedrooms for sleeping and the third for storage. It has excellent headroom, my husband is 6'4' and has no problem. The front canopy is great for cooking, sitting in, or just leaving muddy boots and wet waterproofs in. The tent has big windows which is great if you are inside on a wet day. If you have a hot day you can open the whole of the front up.
We found it easy to put up and was no problem getting it back in the bag.
The only problem we have found is on the side doors which have an overhang. These have weak joints on the poles, one of which has broken already.
Overall we are very pleased with the tent and it suits our family very well.

Were newish to camping & used ours for the 1st time last weekend. Straightforward to put up - no falling out or squabbling with hubby over it! plenty of room for 2 adults & 4 kids. Haven't had kitchen set up yet but the porch area looks ideal for it. Easy to take down & really easy to get back in the bag (unlike our last tent) can't think of a single negative - we were lucky with the weather so didn't get to test the waterproofness - will put that to the test with 2 weeks in france next year. We got the footprint to make life easier in mucky conditions but didn't bother with the carpet, we just use picnic blankets (easy to wash & keep clean)
Very happy with it & can't wait for big holiday in it next year.

Bought ours earlier this year and used it for the first time last weekend. Putting the tent up was fairly straight forward, although locating rings to poles once one side is done was a little tricky, however, once that was done the rest was easy.
We are very impressed with the amount of living space, a god send when the heavens opened! We were able to sit comfortably around a table to eat without feeling cramped or bent over.
The sleeping area has three bedrooms we used the middle to sleep, it fits two adult single airbeds. Used the other one for dressing, and with the height of the bedroom it was a joy to be able to stand to dress. We did not put up the third but used the space for extra storage.
The tent stood up very comfortably to all the elements and dried out very quickly. The outer seating area under the porch canopy again spacious. The walkway entrances were able to be put flat and raised to personal requirement which is good as this eliminated the trip factor.
Putting down the tent very easy and we congratulated ourselves in getting the tent back in the bag and doing up the Zip. Something to do with the oversized bag it comes in they say!
In essence we are very pleased with our purchase and looking forward to trying out again very soon.

We only started camping last year and was looking for a tent that was both easy to put up and had plenty of living space as the cheap one we originally bought had neither.
The amazon 600 definitely has living space but at the expence of the bedrooms which whilst there are 3 of them they are small and will only fit an average sized double airbed.
This suits us but probably doesn't suit everyone.
Its dead easy to put up and after only 2 trips my OH and I can get it up in under 30 minutes.

Manufacturer's Description
A new range of family tunnel tents that replaces the popular Vango Vail range. The Vango Amazon tents are steel poled tents which offer a cavernous (Stan saw the Beatles here), open living area and three spacious full height bedrooms. In addition, they also feature a fully sewn-in groundsheet which protects the occupants from the outside elements. Because it's such a large tent, great importance has been placed on allowing plenty of light into the space and so a large 'veranda' front door, two canopied side doors, multiple large panel 'Crystal Clear' windows and skylights have all been incorporated to maximum effect. Finally, the Vango Amazon's also come complete with a zip-on sun canopy - great for al fresco cooking and dining. The Vango Amazon 600 features 3 x 2-berth sleeping berth (which will sleep 6 adults comfortably) and all of which are removable.
Other features include a Protex 5000 durable polyester flysheet (5000mm hydrostatic head), taped seams, heavy duty Oxford external storm skirt, 3 mesh doors, mesh vents, colour coded Powerplus Steel poles, pre-angled poles for rigidity, flysheet first pitching, PE waterproof groundsheet, breathable polyester inners, storage pockets and hanging organisers, double zip windows (for 3 vent/light options), cable entry point, lantern hanging point, roller bag, repair kit. Flame retardant throughout.
