Have owned a Vango Icarus 500 for around 2 years. So far its been a great tent to us, although I think its too small for a 5 berth. There is 2 of us plus the dog and thats great, I reckon would comfortably a child as well but not 5 berth. Pitches really easily, no problems at all but keep the inner compartment permanently fixed in place - orange clip. Side door is best if its raining and to help minimise heat lose. Main/front door not great if its raining, lets water in. We have camped several times up on a headland in north devon where theres a constant wind blowing, once inside you don't feel a thing, found it to be very robust. There are additional awnings to purchase, however I believe the large open fronted one can weigh down on the tunnel affect of the main tent, thus allowing water to pool on the roof. Overall, gets a 9 from us as it meets all our needs, but doesn't reach 10 as I believe it to be too small for a 5 berth. Would recommend.

We bought our Icarus last year and have used it a few times now, we love it we are a family of four plus dog, and there it plenty of room for us All and our gear.
The tent is easy to pitch only taking ten minutes or so between my wife and I.
It has held its own in severe heavy rain and stayed stable and dry,
We love all the features and use them all the hanging pockets are a good feature.
We are thinking of getting the extension, but we pitch an adventure tarp over the front door which protects it from the weather when going in and out in the rain.
Overall we love this tent and cannot wait to use ot again.

Owned for a year but used first time last week. Easiest large tent that we have ever put up, my wife and I ten minutes. Rained very hard one night, not a drip. Agree with previous orange clip remark so left bedrooms clipped in when folding. Don't like the fact that the outer doors and mesh don't clip together (thus an 8), do like the tension banding system. Would only use for maximum of three people. Very easy to take down and goes back into the bag no bother. Bear in mind if taking small children that the closed zips are at the bottom of the doors so very reachable for would be escapees. Overall very good tent IMO.

Have to give this tent top marks, however I can't compare it against any others, but it's good. Bought it for a family of 4, but after our first trip myself and my boy have carried on. It's perfect for us, space is plenty. Had no issues with leaks, must admit though, have got a tear in the right hand bedroom door zip, which after reading other reviews seems to be an issue with this tent. Others than that, good tent, good space, doesn't leak. Takes me and my 10 year old boy 15 minutes to put up.

We bought this as our first tent and was really pleased with it overall. The side pockets are really usefull and also gives the tent a finished look as it covers the space between the bedroom inner tent and the exterier flysheet. The fly screens are a nice touch as on a sunny day the doors can be left open with no nasty bugs entering. The only down side is the front door lets the rain in when entering on a wet day.
The living area is big enough for 3 adults and all our stuff but not sure it would be suitable for 5 unless you had small children.
We bought the front canopy for a bit more space and as a covered cooking area but on it's first outing a gust of wind came and ripped it off the main tent, so this has really put me off and would not recommend this as the weather was fine when it was erected.
Overall a super tent if you want a tent that is easy and quick to errect, spacious inside and small and light enough to fit in the smallest of cars.

Have now used over two years and found it ideal easy to put up and take down. Good for 2 of us and dog . No leaks only problem was a broken pole this year taped up and easily fixed when home .After reading other reviews am now looking for the canopy. The hanging pockets are useful and take a fair amount.

I own a surf blue Vango Icarus 500 with front canopy. I'm a single female who enjoys camping trips with my family who have caravans/motorhomes. I'm able to put the tent up on my own and I love the layout. I use the canopy as a kitchen/dining area so I can make the most of the living area in the main tent, which is carpeted. I've recently returned from a 2 week camping trip in France. During the trip there were 4 days of high wind and heavy rain but the Icarus remained sturdy and waterproof throughout. The only downside is the angled front door which means that, if the tent is wet, all the water runs in when it's unzipped.

Used twice now. Love it. Very easy to put up, although we seem to have managed to break one of the poles. The sewn in ground sheet is ideal, space enough for just 2 of us. We have the canopy but haven't used it yet. It has been out in mainly good weather, but has endured a real heavy downpour and strong winds, no leaks and still standing. The front door could be better - we've not decided how best to use the doors yet. The front one can drip rain in if you are going in or out during a shower, but hasn't been as massive problem. The bedroom is very spacey for the two of us without the dividing sheet. We think it is a sturdy, straightforward tent.

Easy enough to put up and a decent quality build but.
There are only two of us and we prefer to use campbeds, the bedroom is not deep enough and we have to sleep across the bedroom with the divider rolled up. If I had realised this I most certainly would not have brought it. Condensation is also a problem.

I purchased an Icarus 500 tent earlier this year as I wanted a tent that could comfortably accommodate me along with my two older children and which was quick and easy to put up. I was not disappointed! I also purchased the footprint to protect the groundsheet. A great feature of this tent is the sewn-in groundsheet, which means that the living area can be used as a sleeping area if you so wish and you are not going to be invaded by wildlife in the night - my son and daughter sleep in the partitioned sleeping area and I sleep in the living area, which means we all have a lot of space. The tent is light and airy, with large windows. The hanging storage area is really useful, too. There are two downsides that I must mention, though: because of the angle of the door, the rain comes in when it's opened during wet weather. Also, the orange plastic clips that hold the sleeping area in place look as if they are not going to last long and I wonder if metal clips might have been better. The clips are easy to get on but not quite so easy to get off when the tent is taken down, and after just one use, even though we were very careful, the plastic on the 'snap' part of the clip has discoloured and looks as if it might snap after a few more pitchings. When you take the tent down you also have to lower the fabric around the large plastic window to remove the dead flies that have collected there. Overall, though, the tent's advantages outweigh its disadvantages and I am really pleased with it.
