After finding out our Outwell wouldn't fit on the pitch sizes at Forest Holidays we decided to look for a primarily weekend tent but one we could use on longer stays as well. As there are 5 of us (2 adults, 11 yr old, 7 yr old and a 4 year old) we needed at least a 6 man tent. Budget was also a consideration ( as it's always tight!). After MUCH reading on these forums we decided an Icarus 600 with canopy would fit the bill. A quick trip to Go Outdoors and a look round one confirmed this so tent, canopy, footprint and carpet where duly purchased from a trader on Ebay. Since then we've been on a number of trips and find it fills the bill perfectly. Myself and my eldest can put it all up in about 45 mins without rushing it.We can fit 2 doubles and a single airbed in with room to spare and because of the canopy there is plenty of room for the kids to play if it's raining. Next purchase is a 2011/12 zipped canopy to keep the Scottish horizontal rain out!

I have just bought this from a lovely couple who had only used the tent for two nights and decided that it wasn't for them at the moment. I had been looking for a 'weekend/2/3 day tent' that I would be able to pitch for short trips by myself for when I take the children without the hubby (also have an Outwell Idaho XL - which I love but not practical for a short trip). We picked the tent up on Saturday and went straight off to use it for the bank holiday weekend. It was very straight forward to pitch, and was impressed with the size considering what I am used too! However, it would struggle to fit 3 double air beds in the bedroom and glad I went for the 600 and not the 500, as although there are only 5 of us - I think we would have struggled if it had been any smaller.
I took my existing two small Coleman carpets which I use for the bedrooms in my other tent and these overlapped nicely in the living room. We had rain on the first night and quite a bit of wind but the tent seemed to cope with it ok. Was worried - especially as I am used to steel poles and haven't used a tent with fibre glass poles in a very long time. We even managed to pack it up and put it in the bag first time. Now we just need the footprint, carpet and canopy!

FANTASTIC. Have just returned from 2 nights camping in my new Icarus 600 with my 2 children.
The weather on arrival was VERY windy with heavy rain. I thought I had a challenge on my hand with pitching the tent single handed, but had practiced in my garden ignoring the pitching instructions. I pegged out the footprint, then put the rear pegs in. Put the poles into their sleeves, then one at a time inserted the ring and pin system, pegging it out as I went. I did the back pole first (using the wind to help) and held the tent upright by using the guy ropes attached to the back air vent. The tent was completely pegged out in no time at all. The guy ropes offered plenty of support against the wind once positioned correctly.
The same evening I witnessed a dome tent being blown to the ground, but my Icarus stood firm. The weather was also wet when I took it down, but due to its ease I was able to take the guy ropes off, then the poles out quickly then wrap the whole thing in the footprint groundsheet and bundle it in the back of my car to pitch at home.
Some of the reviews on here detail problems with the Icarus. The tent I took away was the second Icarus I had purchased. The first one had to be returned to the shop due to the door being incorrectly stitched. I have never had a problem with a Vango tent before, but it appears they had a bad batch of these which demonstrates the importance of checking a tent before camping in it.
The only improvement that I think is necessary is some kind of canopy over one of the doors to stop the rain going in everytime you go in or out of the tent. Can't complain though, only paid £152.99 for the tent :)

I really love this tent! Easy to put up and take down. We use it for just 2 - 4 people so there is plenty of room in the bedrooms. I could not imagine six people sleeping in it as it would be very cosy!
The living area is a great size and can take a table and 4 chairs easily. It could do with a loop to take a lamp in the ceiling but that is a minor fault.
It is wonderful being able to stand up in the bedrooms.
I am going to buy the enclosed canopy for next year.

I bought the Icarus 600 for £149 and thought I'd got a bargain. How wrong I was! In calm/sunny conditions this tent is great, but it gave us a real false sense of security!
The tent is difficult to get tight with the tunnels section flapping around. It's easy to erect, 3 poles and ring and pin system.
However, in the wind it was nearly impossible to erect. The poles bent and the whole tent caved in.
Once up, the tent was very spacious and the mesh doors are a good idea. Why it doesn't have a full zip on the side door though is beyond me. Silly design, which lets water in.
The tent couldn't cope with the wind, and the wide frontage acted like a sail! It stayed upright, but gave us lots of cause for concern. We had drips of water throughout our stay and a little puddle in the morning running down the edge.
On the morning we left, the tension straps broke from the stitching and one of the poles had split.
Luckily we got a full refund and bought a different tent from somewhere else!
Really disappointed, as in many ways this tent was perfect, great price, space, easy to erect, but let itself down in the main areas, strength and durability.

Very disappointed. We outgrew our six-year-old, cheap halfords dome tent and bought this as a replacement. But after first use - a 10 day camping trip to France - I've had to return it to Decathlon because two of the poles have split and two seams near the pole pins have burst. Staff at Decathlon said they'd had a number of these returned, more than usual/other tents so perhaps indicating a bad batch? I still give it 3 out of ten to give credit for good design of space - foot print not much more than out old tent but you can stand up in it! - and the built in ground sheet is comforting when it rains. Very easy to put together and dismantle - apart from build quality! Very disappointed to have had to return it.

I Love the Icarus 600 its easy to assemble has plenty of room for home comforts and easy to take down and pack away. The only drawback is the front entrance does not have a zip at the bottom so can be a little draughty but its the only fault.
The side entrance has a fully zipped mesh. We put our table and chairs next to this and face it to the best view over the loch, so we can eat our meals gaining fresh air, a beautiful view, but the midges and flies cannot get in lol.

Firstly we bought the Icarus600 at the end of August last year and because we are seasoned tent putter uppers didnt worry about putting it up before we went away in June of this year. MISTAKE! The first thing we noticed was a bird dropping stain on the side of the tent, then discovered the reason for the difficulty in pushing the poles through. The bedroom inner tent had been pre installed, but, not on the correct toggles so the whole thing was straining.Once up we found that the inner tent was damaged and had been sewn in along the front edge making it impossible to detach plus some of the toggles and loops were missing.Sent it back to Vango and it was replaced by a new tent, but not in laurel like the original, but moss. GREAT!,moss tent with a laurel canopy. However we are not put off and were pleased overall with the tent which is why it scored high. Will now be looking to possibly swap the laurel open fronted canopy extension with a moss one.Any takers.Happy camping.

We bought this tent last week after 4 years with a pro action Nevada 8 which has served us well.
We went for this tent after seeing it at a tent show in the local park very impressed with the living area the pods in my tent are not sewn in like the 2010 version and the mesh front door is a good improvement As for pitching our 1st time in windy conditions 20 min our 1st glass fibre pole tent was easy to pitch guys easy to tighten and the tension bands work well as for packing if you watch the you tube video not a problem I got it back in the bag 1st time we look fwd to our 1st trip in 2weeks will post 2nd review then

We bought this tent in the sale a few weeks ago and went away for a weekend to try it out and have now booked to go away for another week. It's a really practical tent as it's not too big for two - my husband and I - but meant that a couple of friends could join us for a night and it still wasn't too squashed. Really nice porch area which you can stand up in, so if it rains for a week it's not too bad. Bedrooms are a good size and comfortably fit a double airbed in each.
This is very easy to put up and takes about 20mins - can't be bad! This means that we can go camping on a Friday night after work and it's great!
One thing to bear in mind is that the divide between the two bedrooms does have gaps and so this will need considering if you are sharing with friends rather than family!
Despite this very positive review, when we bought ours it had the wrong bedroom compartment in it and had to be taken back! Make sure you check before pitching!

Manufacturer's Description
The Vango Icarus 600 is a new size being introduced into the highly popular range for the 2010 season. The Icarus range is likely to prove even more popular in 2010 due to the fantastically simple 'as-one' easy to pitch system and the simple 3-pole no hassle construction will make it the most ideal of weekend tents.
The tent frame is constructed using Powerflex fiberglass poles, a Protex 2000 Polyester flysheet (2000mm hydrostatic head protection) and as is the norm these days, the groundsheet is fully sewn-in to keep out unwanted pests and draughts.
The other key features of the tent include, as-one pitching, single 6-berth sleeping compartment (with roll back divider), TBS tension band system for extra strengthening in adverse weather, 10,000mm HH internal groundsheet, side 'J' door with mesh double door, heavy duty continuous poles sleeves, storm skirts, pelmet with storage pockets, cable entry point, front door mesh vent, reflective webbing, (helps aliens encounter you) 'Crystal Clear' windows (with internal covers), breathable fabric inner tent, parallel zipped front door can be used as a sun sun porch (porch poles not provided). Handled carry bag and repair kit included. Flame retardant throughout.
