I bought one of these to replace a smaller Wild Country tent I have used for years, mainly because of the extra space. Considering that this tent cost less than half what the Wild Country cost I have been more than impressed. You can put it up in less than 5 minutes and it is rock solid and very water proof. I know it is not really a full on mountain tent but I have used it in some very exposed places, in nasty conditions and it has performed well. The porch area can get a bit drafty but it does stay dry. The only reason I don't give it the full 10 is because of the pegs, they are cheap aluminium and are all but useless unless you plan on camping on a golf course. If you get some decent pegs then this is an excellent tent for weekends away or free camping on the hills.

Of the tents I've had previously a couple that impressed had been vangos (including one that was trampled by cows, washed, reproofed then gave 2 years waterproof, frostproof, windproof service and still going strong when I sold it last week!) so no brainer on brand choice when looking for an autumn/spring tent for the Welsh hills.

It needed to have enough room for myself and 2 teenage lads to sleep in comfort yet be snug enough to remain warm in frosty conditions, and have reasonable space to stow rucksacks and cook in bad weather, so off to Gooutdoors for a nosey.

The Omega ticked so many boxes I bought it there and then and for Ł114 too!

The 2009 version is only 4.8kg, packs to a size similar to a self inflating bed mat, HH of 3000mm and is made of Protex material which is strong and rip-resistant (normally only found on much more expensive kit).

So far so good but now to use. Pitched in 10 mins and 20 mins saw all pegs and guys placed and tightened, ground sheet (new bathtub version) in place, at which point the rain battered down for around 2hrs. The Omega passed with flying colours on the waterproof test!

Slept in it that night to more torrential rain and remained dry, warm and the stability as a whole was excellent.

So what else then, I'm 5'8' and can sit on folding chair in porch area ok, can sit and kneel in 'bedroom' ok so perfectly adequate for intended use.

Not sure that it matters about having to fold back the outer door from outside to use mesh, as if the weathers too bad to do so I can't imagine it being the type of conditions you would be using the mesh in anyway, but we all use tents in different ways so who knows.

On the whole great tent, the only minor niggle was the porch area 'bathtub' groundsheet does flop slightly along it's edges so am going to tweak by attaching shockcord to keep it tensioned.

Also looking to invest in a tarp to use by pegging on one side of tent and taking to the other using poles to make an awning over the door, not a gripe just tweaking to personal style of use. (so off to www.Ddhammocks.Com for one of their excellent 4.5m x 3m XLtarps for under 40 quid - bit like a military basha with 3000 hydrostatic head! not a crappy crinkly blue thing!)

So in summary if you want a quality, usable, easily packed, to a small size, tent that can handle bad weather get the Vango Omega 350 (if there's anyone with it in stock that is, mine was the last one available in a 30 mile radius and an hour of searching online suppliers had them all out of stock too!)

Like many I bought this tent because I wanted a quality weekend tent large enough for my small family (myself and 2 small children), with a bit of storage but small enough to pitch quickly on my own - I was not disappointed!

The quality is great and the internal storage fantastic. The sleeping area can be kept just for that as there is plenty of room to store kit and cook in the front porch area. It might not be the ceapest tent for 3 people but you could spend a great deal more, but for the quality I can't fault it.

Pitching is a relative breeze. It states a two person potch, but I managed on my own with two small children watching (assisting/hindering) in about 20 mins. Two adults would have it licked in ten mins!

Weather proof - it's great/ I've just returned from 4 days in the North West Highlands of Scotland with fine dry days and drenched stormy nights and stayed dry and snug at all times.

The porch area may prove draughty for some but this is a storage area after all.

Finally I would have given it top marks but the down side. Tent pegs - basically useless and will be replacing . They are so soft that even my three year old managed to bend them attempting to push one in with her shoe!

Pack size is brilliant, even has velcro guy line tidies and weighs next to nothing!

I bought the 2009 model, which is significantly lighter than previous versions, and love it - the three person version was the perfect size with a nice entrance tunnel. East to put up (it's my first ever tent) and pack down, instructions a little confusing - they almost make it seem more difficult that it is! Nice reflective bits on the webbing and zip tags - why haven't they put this in the guy ropes too? I suggested it to them in an email and they've not bothered responding.

Tent pegs very soft - I bent the entire bundle in half because it was in my side cargo trouser pocket when I was pushing one at time into the ground! But reasonably easily straightened. Would definitely recommend.

Extremely compact.

Very easy to erect in any conditions.

Stands up to severe wind and rain.

Porch and bedroom are massive compared to the packed size and weight.

Aluminium pegs can bend on rocky ground, but they are very light and easily straightened (so this isn't a bad point).

I bought this tent as a smaller option to our Oregon 600 for those 'get in the car and drive' weekends away and its proved to be a great addition to our camping gear. Size wise it is perfect for a couple of nights away and it is a breeze to erect, but if you are used to the space provided by the larger family tents you might be dissapointed and possibly claustrophobic with the Omega. The front 'living space' gives plenty of storage space but is not large enough to be used as a seating area really, although my wife who is 5ft 3' found it to be fine!

Overall a very good weekend tent but certainly not recommended for longer trips or if you require space for cooking / kitchen equipment.

I bought this because no matter how much I loved the Vango Delta 300 that preceded it we do most of our camping in the Lake District and not having a sheltered living space beyond sleeping quarters is less than desirable.

The ease with which the Omega 350 goes up is simple enough for the most inexperienced camper to erect within minutes and once it's up it's ready to sleep in; no messing about with 'inner' and fly-sheet necessary.

The downside, by comparison to the Delta is that the inner door that divides sleeping from living / storage compartments does not have the option to unzip the 'solid' canvass and leave only a less claustrophobic mesh screen to keep the crawlies out. The door has an upper section that is mesh only, for ventilation purposes, but this is so high as to make seeing into the porch from the sleeping area impossible without kneeling up. This leads to a strangely isolating experience if one of you is in the sleeping compartment and the other in the porch with no way to see each other without giving the insects access.

Aside from that the Omega 350 shares all the neat features of it's predecessor; side pockets in sleeping area for valuables, ceiling hook for attaching a central light, Velcro sealable air vents etc. Space wise, for two relatively small adults it affords plenty of room for everything and the sleeping compartment is cosy and draught free with it's bucket groundsheet and small enough that body heat alone serves to keep it warm.

The major flaw in the design is that the flat groundsheet in the porch area leaves a considerable gap between wall and ground through which the wind and wet inevitably creep / scream. This is obviously dependant on the ground you're pitched on but where ever we ended up there was always a good three inch gap on one side or the other. Also the option to have a mesh screen between porch and elements / view rather than the solid canvass door involves unzipping from outside the tent which is irritating in bad weather. The mesh screen option that allows a view of the outside world is oddly only available on one of the two outer doors so the doors do not prove as interchangeable as they might otherwise have been and you have to choose your angle of pitch accordingly if you want to take advantage of the view from the comfort of your 'lounge'.

Having said all that the tunnel nature and low profile of the tent makes for comforting stability in rough weather and once the guy ropes are adjusted to keep everything taught it proved more than adequate in keeping out the constant English rain. The whole thing weighs next to nothing and erection, beyond the remarkable speed at which it all goes up, is so simple with the colour-coded ring and peg system that a monkey could manage it easily. If only there was a way to exclude more of the draught in the living area I'd rate it as a near ideal tent for two people. At the price still an excellent entry level tent.

This was our first tent purchase in 2007. We saw it at a Yeoman's camping show and we were struck that it made a very good 'happy medium' between family style tents and more portable ones.

It is relatively spacious for two (although maybe a bit snug for three). You can't stand up straight in the living area but it's big enough for a fair bit of storage and OK for sitting about in bad weather.

The 'killer features' though are its packed size and weight which have enabled us to take it on trips on trains and planes, and also the fact that it literally does go up in five minutes. Quality seems pretty good and it stood up well to some very windy and rainy weather last year.

The Vango Omega Tents are very similar in layout and style to the Vango Beta tents however, they feature two significant differences; they have alloy poles which significantly reduces the weight of the tent and they feature the new 'speed-pitch' system to allows for 'all-in-one' pitching (the Dodgers are interested). These tunnel tents are perfect for 2-season camping and feature a living/porch area large enough to use as living space, bike or gear storage and two entrances.
The Vango Omega 350 a 3-berth version of the tent which features a breathable polyester inner, bathtub inner groundsheet and permanent living area/porch groundsheet. The flysheet is made from Protex 2000, a polyester fabric with 2000mm hydrostatic head with fully taped seams and continuous external pole sleeves. Within the flysheet are air vents and 'crystal clear' windows with internal covers for privacy. The poles are Powerlite 7001-T6 alloy providing precision and strength with flexibility and corrosion resistance. Comes complete with zip entry handled carry bag.
