2 Reviews of the Lacerta Tunnel

By: ROSSlass  Reason: I own(ed) one  Made in: 2023   Rating:

The Lacerta is a large tunnel tent 3.20 wide and and with a front wall 7.30 long. It is a Dutch tent made by Karsten in tencate cotton canvas. It is much heavier than 'your average tent' but parts of it can be packed separately . The Lacerta is a pole tent with a full thick bisonyl bathtub groundsheet. The aluminium poles are easily fed into the zipped sleeves and it is recommended that two people put the tent up. There is plenty of headroom in the tent.

Inside there is a spacious bedroom area with striped curtaining; a large living area, enhanced by ( at extra cost) a zip in shelf unit and hanging rails for coats or etc. There is plenty of room for a table and chairs and kitchen unit. A flat front wall closes off the tent.

In front of this flat front wall, the tent also comes with a front canopy onto which you can purchase, at extra cost, a front wall which zips up to close off the tent completely. This gives a generous seating area in the ‘front porch'.

The tent is very bright with large foil /netted windows. We love the Lacerta, the shape, the space, and easy set up/down. Yes it is heavy, and expensive, but there has to be a compromise somewhere. If you see it you will want to try and perhaps buy.

There is only one UK stockist of this Lacerta tent - Camping Travel Store near Cambridge. The owners of the store are excellent and offer all the help you will need when choosing your 'kit'.

Perfect family tent!

We owned several big tents ranging from a Decathlon Polyester to a top-of-the-line Outwell Polycotton Inflatable. The Lacerta outperforms them all by far. Some of my favorite points are:

- fantastic room climate in heat and cold

- spacious yet cozy sleep cabin

- living space with zip-in closet

- large roofed outdoor area when attaching the rain awning to the base awning.

- generous standing height throughout most of the tent

- quick to pitch with the zippers accessible from outside

- complete lack of lateral guylines makes your pitch much easier to navigate

The only downside I see is the pack volume which when including poles, tent, extension set and rain awning is quite large. Though probably not larger than a Karsten pod with all awnings. The Lacerta has the benefit of all windows included, lower price and in my opinion a more uniform/prettier appearance than the full pod setup.

The only thing to note is that (at least for the 2020 model) not all poles are the same length. One is shorter and is supposed to be placed at the sleeping end of the tent. Instructions did not mention this and you have a hard time getting everything straight if you mix up the poles.

Manufacturer's Description

Weather or no weather: in the Lacerta it is always nice to stay. For the whole family. The large tent comes standard with a sturdy deep awning, but is easy to expand with a closing wall + bucket sail. This allows you to create an oasis of inner space in no time.

The Lacerta is a real Karsten Tent: modern, stormproof and so set up. New in this design is the flexible living space. In good weather, the deep awning and the interior of more than 15 m2 amply satisfy the requirements, while in case of less weather or need for more living space, the canopy is pulled into the inner tent in no time with the extension set.

With a headroom of 2.2 meters over the entire length, the longest of us move without murmuring through the living space to the sleeping area. The sleeping cabins are just as deep as they are high, and the spacious layout ensures that there is enough space left to store belongings or to change clothes in peace. New air vents at the top of the partition walls also provide optimum airflow, allowing the whole family to sleep like a rose. Sleeping your tent in the morning, the neighbors will be jealous!

Of course this Karsten Tent is also set up in no time. The choice was made for stick slots on the outside of the tent. Zipper the slots open, pass the pre-formed sticks through them and zip the slots closed again. Voilà! And the tent is already there. And even more firmly: Thanks to the sturdy construction, tent fabric made of 100% Ten Cate cotton and a bisonyl canopy, the tent is exceptionally stormproof and rain resistant. This is how Karsten Tenten and the Lacerta again guarantee countless carefree camping holidays for the whole family.
