1st time campers and last weekend was our first ever trip. Admittedly we were very lucky with the weather as it only rained during the night but we had no leaks and no real complaints.

A few people have commented that the tent is on the larger side considering we're a family of three (9yr old son) and only intend using for weekends but I always say it's best to have too much room than not enough and we have plenty of storage room and my son's bike kept dry in the night!

We had previously put the outer tent up in the garden to try it out (didn't want to make fools of ourselves on site!) and had figured out the 'hook & ring' system which once you know how to do it seems pretty easy. The inner bedroom pods were really easy to put in and the tent was excellent for our 1st trip and converting my OH who was very dubious about going.

Also no problem packing the tent away it all fitted back in the bag provided although my husband rolling around on the floor to get all the air out was pretty funny :) The carpet proved more of a problem and had to be unrolled and refolded several times before I could figure it out but got there in the end.

Managed to get the Footprint as I know these are in short supply and whilst the weather was pretty dry I definitely think its worth having one.

My only quibble (and it is tiny) is that if you put all bedroom pods in then you can't really 'open up' the end of the tent but the door's on either side are sufficient and we sat outside cooking/eating anyway. For this reason we will be investing in the porch as soon as finances allow just in case we're not so lucky with the weather in the future.

All in all we are very pleased with our purchase and have already booked our next 'long' weekend away and looking forward to more joys of camping.

We bought the 2008 model for use in 2009. This has been our first experience of family camping and we have found the tent perfect - amble space for family of four to bring table and chairs inside and still have space for kids to play.

Great head room and flexibility of having all or just some of pods in.

Newer models have sewn-in groundsheet at doors which will enhance this model further!

Would recommend the canopy / porch for wet English weather. We also have footprint and tent carpet.

So impressed with Gelert, we have just purchased a Easy Pitch DS4 for one night stops / festivals.

Bought this tent about a month ago and used it for the first time at Warren Farm Holiday Centre, Brean. New to camping so it was going to be fun setting this up. Fortunately the weather couldn't have been better. Everything was colour coded so you couldn't really go wrong with poles. Took me a while to figure out how to use the slidey guide ropes thingymagingy but now I got it. I pegged the corners down first but as I finished I think I pegged it a bit too tight, the inner tents were stretching a bit.

I so much wanted the footprint, but everywhere was out of stock before we left, will have it for next time along with the carpet. Lots of space for children and the living area was ample for our family of 5.

Not sure about the large door at one end, its similar to how cars get on and off a ferry when opened, its huuugggeee!, my only concern was that in bad weather will it hold up? nothing to attach it securely to the groundsheet, its just held up with plastic ties, Had no problems with it, in the weather we just had it was a welcome breeze through the tent, lets see when it rains. I'm sure it'll be fine.

Overall, I'm so glad we purchased it, as the 3 children grow, they'll have their own pod as well as us to keep the peace.Lol

Porch would be a useful addition, carrying the stove in and out was a bit of a bind and it will also help with taking shoes off before the kids come in the tent, grass and sand everywhere.

We have just returned from our first trip with this tent and we were very impressed. Due to having 2 small children I had to put the tent up myself which was very easy - even as this was the first time.

Due to the outer first pitching design you could be in the dry very quickly if it was raining. We had no adverse weather although the site we used was uneven and the tent easily catered for this.

I would strongly recommend the additional groundsheet for 2 reasons, it protects the tents sown in one but more importantly meant we could pack the tent away on site as it was completely dry as we had no rain - this saves a lot of hassle if we needed to do this at home.

Even if it had rained, the groundsheet means the tent stays clean and could be dried indoors instead of waiting for a dry day. We did see this tent pitched at a shop in heavy rain - I recommend shopping for tents in rain as you soon see the faults!

The bedrooms install very quickly and can be either end of the tent which could be important if you wished to use the end door.

Packing it up was also easy (without strong winds) so long as you made note of how it unfolded when first unpacking (to pack: half lengthways/3rds/3rds/3rds/roll).

A very good large tent.

Just got back from a week away in the Cotswolds. Once again we had to pitch the tent in the wet, and once again we were as dry as a bone inside. Pitching gets easier with practice, and we are now able to have it fully pegged out inside an hour. This is a really great tent with loads of space inside.

I reviewed this tent a year ago, and we have now bought the porch. We had a job to get the porch in blue, but finally tracked one down. It doesn't quite match the tent because they have changed the colours slightly, but that is a minor thing.

We were a bit worried about how to fit the porch on, but a fellow camper came by and said he put something in the peg bag, tied it on to the porch and threw it over the top.Once you have worked out how heavy the thing in the bag needs to be this works a treat. We were lucky in that the weather was very calm, but we didn't have any problems putting it up. Ours was slightly different from the other one on site, so maybe they have changed the design this year.

Having the porch was really good as it gives extra space for chairs, wellies etc overnight. We had really good weather, but if it rains next time out we will put the cooker in there.

Last year we had a bit of a problem with rain running under the tent and coming in when you open the flap. I think the porch will help to prevent both of those problems, and will also make it easier to keep the carpet in the main tent clean in the wet.

We have just returned from our first weekend away with our new Horizon 8. What a great tent! This is our third tent purchase (I know!) and we have not been disappointed. We have been away with family and friends and have envied their shiny new tents, but now this was the star of the show. It easily fit me and my oh, and 3 growing children with plenty room to spare.

We bought the porch and this really was a must. It was great to cook in and leave the wellies etc in. The kids got used to the 'shoes off' shriek and that kept the tent clean on one day of the most torrential downpours I have ever experienced whilst camping.

We looked at the Vango Tigris 800 and read the reviews on this site about both tents. The only thing that concerned us about the Gelert was that it did not have the tension straps that the Vango has. However, this was not a problem as the rain and wind blew, the tent did not shift. Our last tent which we outgrew was a Vango Venture 500 and that used to almost collapse in windy conditions, so it was great to be in a tent that felt really solid.

We bought the chestnut/mocha colour and this was bright and airy, as we had seen the blue which we felt was a little dark, but do not let that put you off - a fantastic tent that we cannot rate highly enough.

I accept the comments about the bag being too small to fit the tent in (why do they make them too small!). Our advice is take a 6'4'' 20 stone friend with you. When he sat on the bag we soon managed! Paid Ł249.99 for the tent which we think is a good price for a fantastic tent.

I bought this tent in April 2010 and used it for the first time in May 2010.

This tent is great, it is a good size and quite easy to put up, we bought the porch and the carpet and footprint all at once as most people recommended this and now I am glad I did as it all works together really well.

The main bedroom in the tent was big enough for myself my wife and two young children to sleep in, using the two other single rooms for kitchen and clothing items, we then had the porch for cooking, washing and water and the carpet made the tent feel homely.

Even though there is a SIG there is still a draft through the end that opens up and the side windows, I would recommend putting double sided velcro to prevent this.

The only downside is we didn't find it that easy to get the tent back in its bag and had to pack up as tight as possible take it home and then do it again.

Overall a really good tent that is very big and easy to put up and great value for the money. Spent Ł410 (carpet, footprint, tent and porch)

My family and I own a Gelert Horizon 8, I decided to buy it last spring due to our folding camper getting ruined with mould (and to be honest,our older kids were never that interested in going in it, as it was 'old fashioned') I took ages looking on the internet for a tent that was big enough for our family of 5, looked smart and wasn't too expensive, and after coming on here and reading the reviews, I decided this was the one. I didn't expect it to be so big, when we put it up in our garden it looked huge! But brilliant. I invested in the porch whilst I was at it too, which also is very big (like a 2 man tent!)

We didn't manage to go anywhere in it last summer due to moving house, but we are all chomping at the bit to get out for a weekend next month and try it out, just need to buy a camping stove.

My husband and daughter put the tent up and found it easy enough with the colour coded poles, lets hope it goes as well when we are actually out on the campsite, lol!

I'll report back when we've been and hopefully put a few more pics up.

Ps, I've scored this tent 9/10 for now on looks and space, since I can't say about performance yet.

As a first time camper who did not want to feel cramped in, this tent was fab. We had 6 people sleeping with the 4th bedroom used as a clothes/toiletries/changing room. We got the carpet free with the tent and this makes it really cosy although we will be using double sided velcro to keep it in place this year. Neon guy ropes make it really stand out and it is just a great looking tent.

Clever storage pockets, great for kids toys/games etc and withstood heavy items in them with no pulling or tears. Just got to watch your step getting in the tent (especially if you've had a drink or two) We have since bought a utility tent for cooking to keep this just for living in as not really ideal for cooking indoors when weather is bad.

Bags are roomy and you're not struggling to get everything back in. Electric holes at both ends of the tent and doors can be pinned up for a wee porch. We have been looking round at other tents whilst looking for the utility tent and can say that no other tent has grabbed out attention like this one, however not too keen on the new green colour, 2009 blue/grey looks great. 7 going this year and confident we won't be cramped in. Would definitely recommend this tent.

The Gelert Horizon 8 is a large family tent with space for up to 8 people having 2 large sleeping compartments and 2 access doors - back and front and a further door at the side which can be used if only one inner is attached. The Horizon 8 family tent has 3 inners - 2 x 2 man and a further 4 man inner which is divided into 2 by a detachable curtain.
