We bought our Voyager 6 at Go Outdoors last summer after convincing my wife to give camping a go.Originally we went with the intention of getting a 4 man tent as there is only the 2 of us but decided on this after seeing it for sale at around half the usual price.

After a 1 night test run at the end of last summer the tent had its first real outing this week with a 3 night break in the New Forest, with near constant rain the whole time I was expecting some leaks in what is,let's face it,at the cheaper end of the market but it stood up amazingly well. The only place water came in was when you opened the door flap but that has been mentioned in other reviews.

I won't bother mentioning all the features this tent has as they have been written in plenty of other reviews but would heartily recommend the Voyager 6 for any couples or families with small children looking to get into camping for the first time

I have recently purchased one of these and still yet to use it. (Will be in August) We did a test pitch in the garden and as we have had bad experiences with other tents before we thought that we would not chance it and reproof it ourselves as to avoid disappointment whilst on holiday. We have used Nikwax spray from go outdoors. £18 it is a spray so no having to paint it on, very easy and quick to use. So currently it's up in the garden and it's pouring down with rain. Lets see if it does the job.

Pitching the tent was great hassle free and it was all finished within 15mins. Pitching and guy ropes. We plan to leave the bedroom pods in and attached when we take it down. We have done this with other tents and all was fine. This just adds to the quickness of erecting it. Every little helps. As this tent comes in one bag it should work perfectly.

I would suggest to people who have trouble getting the pods to marry-up with the toggles, Put the pods in before you peg the sides down and guys. This way when you pull the tent tight all is together.

I also found that if you peg all 4 corners first then your tent will stay put while your inserting the poles, dome first then the rest.

For first impressions it seems to be a very sturdy, large 6 man tent that is very easy to erect with 2 people. Will add another review when we have holidayed in it.

AN UPDATE:

We have now used our Voyager 6 a total of 5 times, and it is still fantastic! The only thing stopping me giving it 10 out of 10 is when it rains if you don't shake the door off first you will have a damp patch on the floor - but it's not a big deal! (Hoping to get the porch to help with this on longer outings!)

To note re occupancy: we have had 4 adults and an infant sleeping in the tent comfortably. Usually its just 2 + infant~was suprised at how well we could fit 4 + Child in as I normally say 2 adults per every '3 berth'!

Our main addition to the tent is the Carpet. We were not going to buy it but 'santa' left it for us last Christmas (think my mam had a word!). Used it for the first time the other week and it DOES make a difference - last year we used 'waterproofed backed picnic blankets' (about 3) as a carpet . So whats the difference?

THE HEAT - the carpet almost fits side to side (handy slip at one edge for wet/muddy shoes) - which does improve the heat in the tent especially on cool evenings!

SAFETY - with a 2yr old running around its great that the carpet (once in place with a couple of bits placed on it) does not move around at all & with it being one piece there are no loose edges to trip over!

definitely worth the money!

We bought the Hi Gear Voyager 6 this year, we had a bargain as went looking for a smaller Hi Gear tent, but when my partner saw this one he liked all the extra space & the height of it, he said this is the one. We went home to talk over which one to get. I then went back with my sister & saw the display V6 was going at a bargain with the porch included. My partner & me went back later & bought it.

We had a trial run at putting it up in our garden which went really well. We went camping for our very 1st time Jubilee w/end for 4 nights. We took the tent only. We had wind & rain 2 days/nights & tent stood up to it both & dried off quickly. No leaks & reasonably warm especially in the bedroom when zipped up. As others have said when opening zip on doors after rain you do get wet dripping in a bit.

Having both the doors able to become sun canopies is good, we had a set of poles in with tent poles, so only have to buy a 2nd set. The tent is very well ventilated with lots of space to move around in & that's without the porch on. We'll use the porch next time for the kitchen & storage area so we'll have good living space in tent. It's surprising how much you need to take even though it's only the 2 of us.

I would definitely recommend this tent to family & friends, but keep a look out for Go Outdoors sale offers.

Just a short update to our previous review. We camped again over the jubilee weekend and can still find very little to fault with this tent. Had a whole day of solid rain which it stood up to with no problems at all and no leaks. It does get a lot of condensation inside though. Still not keen on the design of the entrance flap as in the rain it not only showers water inside the tent when unzipped but made me wet too going through it. Only other issue we have is that we have had it out twice now and have not yet managed to fit it back inside it's bag when we take it down! Any tips on how to do this would be gratefully received!

We also bought our tent during the Go Outdoors offer. We had gone to look at a smaller Hi Gear tent but saw this one and liked all the extra space for only £20 more. Our first Hi Gear tent and we were impressed with the quality. Because of the bad weather we didn't have the chance to have a dry run at putting it up but found it was an absolute doddle but best done as a 2-man job. As with earlier reviews I'm sure the model we saw in the shop had one single sleeping compartment which could be divided in two but ours had two separate ones. We decided we actually preferred this as the larger compartment was the perfect size for our bed and we used the smaller one for storage. The bottom toggle on smaller compartment didn't quite reach though. Didn't really have any proper bad weather over the weekend, few showers and no leaks. Liked the sewn in groundsheet, wouldn't buy a tent without one now, and loved the amount of space inside. Also liked the number of windows to let in plenty of natural light, and the storage pockets. Not keen on the inner mesh screens to the entrances being separate from the main flaps as I found they got in the way and agree with earlier comments about the flaps letting water into the tent when you open them in the rain. Other than that we couldn't really find anything to fault about this tent and can't wait to use it again next bank holiday.

We also got this during the 'Go Outdoors' offer was on. This is our first tent and we found it easy to erect and to pack away even with strong winds against us.

We are finding the tent is too large for some pitches with electric hook-up which is a shame but plenty other parks to choose from.

We didn't have any rain during our first weekend away in our Voyager 6 tent so can't comment on the seals, door, waterproof properties but like I said earlier it was quite windy for us and we saw plenty other expensive tents blowing around more than our Voyager 6 was.

One thing that we can't work out is the inner bedroom - ours is made up of two separate bedrooms and not like one big single unit divided into two like on these photos. The smaller bedroom (on the left as you stand inside looking at the bedrooms) doesn't quite marry up to the clips/buckles so when we try zip the door closed it pulls the seam enough for us to stop zipping and re-open it before it rips.

Can anyone else confirm this is the case?

Apart from that - we are glad with our first tent purchase. We bought the porch too, which is well worth the money if you want to sit outside of the tent with some wind/sun protection, it fits quite well and is easy to attach to the main tent. Yes, there is a gap between the main tent and porch but I can't see much rain getting in there unless the wind was blowing it in directly.

We got the inner carpet too which does a great job at warming the tent up on cold nights. Plus we bought rock pegs for the main crossover points and main porch supports. Much more sturdy and go into more solid ground easier without bending at all.

Thanks. Liz n Chris

Bought this tent on special offer from Go Outdoors when we started camping as a family (2 adults 6 & 8 year old kids). It's great space wise for us on a shorter break but if we stay longer than 2 or 3 nights we tend to use our Kalahari 10.

As we have got more into camping and accumulated more and more kit we outgrew it a bit and finished up getting the Kalahari for longer holidays when it came on offer.

The Voyager is still a great tent, especially for weekends away, it has withstood all the rain and wind that the Lake District and Wales can throw at it without leaking, but the design of the doors can let water trickle in if you open them when it's raining, I guess using a porch would solve this issue.

Excellent space and headroom in the living area and plenty of space in the sleeping pod however adults cannot stand fully upright in there. We bought the footprint and carpet too, so comfy, but there was no porch available at the time we bought it, I imagine the porch would be a godsend, especially for cooking in the rain.

Easy and quick to pitch, all poles/sleeves are colour coded. Now that a porch is available for it I'm considering buying one but they are a bit steep price wise and we have the Kalahari. If they come on offer I'll be having one I think.

We bought our Voyager 6 from Go Outdoors when it was on offer earlier in the summer. My husband managed to erect it in the garden on his own and found it to be huge even though there was much swearing in the process! We also bought the carpet which adds a touch of luxury. I wanted to buy the footprint but when I went to buy they were, and still are out of stock.

Unfortunately, while on the trial run in the garden, one of our cats went mental and proceeded to run right over the tent, leaving little holes all over it! Nightmare and we were devastated. We went out and bought some tenacious tape and patched up our poor tent!

We went on our camping trip this week filled with trepidation as to how it would perform.

The tent was easy enough for two of us to put up and we had the whole shabang up in just over half an hour. The living area is huge which was a real bonus for all of us, including our two children who had the space to play. The bedroom area has plenty of space and we could have fitted two double inflatable mattresses into the larger bedroom area. The only downside with the bedroom pods is that the 'walls' hang down a bit and can get in the way. However, the storage pockets were a real bonus as were the electric cable holes (one either side of the tent), and the velcro on the roof which we used to hold a string of lights.

Those of you still reading this will be pleased to know that we had one night of very heavy rain and the tent did a magnificent job of staying watertight - even with the repairs! So full marks on that score. Only time will tell if the tenacious tape will live up to its name.

Overall we are really impressed with this tent for the price. As in other reviews I've read the doors do tend to let in water when opened as they just flap inside the tent, but this is a minor gripe really.

In time we may add a porch to our tent but definitely want to get a footprint or the equivalent as it's difficult to source, as already mentioned.

We are camping again on the 31st September so we will see how the repairs hold up!

Well done Higear for a great product.

We love this tent. It is easy to put up (I am a novice camper, short, not very fit lady who has put this tent up by myself), two of us can have it erected and pegged out within 35 mins but more experienced campers can probably do it in half the time. The ring and pin system along with colour coded poles make it very easy. The instructions which are stitched into the bag so you cant loose them are clear and easy to follow.

There is plenty of room for our family of two adults and two children to sleep and play comfortably. We get one double, one large single and two standard single airbeds in the sleeping pods.

The tent has withstood gale force winds and rains (that saw many others wiped out) without a scratch and has not leaked at all. We have experienced condensation in the tent but it has plenty of ventilation, and the condensation soon dried when we opened the front door. Having two doors, one on the front and one on the side is handy when it is raining as you can use the door which is not directly in the in the way of the wind blowing the rain in.

There are electricity entry points on both sides of the tent with handy velcro ties for wires and plenty of storage pockets, both in the sleeping pods and the living area.

Lots of windows make the tent light and airy.

We have the footprint and carpet which I would recommend for a lovely cosy tent.

The only negative thing I can think of is that the porch for the Voyager 6 has sold out and wont be back in stock till March at the earliest. I have been told other porches will fit this tent but I havent tried any.

Manufacturer's Description

A strong, stable and spacious 6-person tent with large windows and generous headroom.

Built using a strong semi-geodesic structure, the Hi Gear Voyager Elite 6 is an easily-pitched tent with room to accomodate 6 campers and all their gear.

It has a large, full-standing-height bedroom area, which can be adapted to convert some of the space into storage quarters if needed.

The groundsheet is sewn in, meaning you get no unwanted draughts, moisture or bugs getting in. Multiple windows (and mesh panels) let you control how much sunlight gets in, and maintain your privacy. The large front door and additional side door give you easy access for you and your gear, and also let you control ventilation.

It's stable enought to stand up to very windy conditions, with the cross-pole design giving it extra strength and flexibility.

A versatile tent that's great for families, groups of friends or festival-goers - and don't forget, you can add extra comfort and insulation by choosing the Hi Gear Voyager Elite Carpet, and extend your sheltered space by adding on the Hi Gear Voyager Elite 6 Porch.
