We have just returned from our first camping trip using our Outwell Montana 6P, we stayed at Nicholson Farm, Herefordshire for 2 nights.
There were 3 of us, my wife, 18 month old son and myself. We had a Colman Ceder Creek before, which was excellent but my wife wanted easier access and the option for duel/single bedrooms as well as more space.
We purchased this tent about 6 weeks ago with the footprint and carpet which we though were the must have's for now. Despite watching the Outwell Youtube pitching video several times, it still took us an hour to put up. Sadly we did not get to do a trial run with it before.
Initial thoughts are it is an excellent tent, with plenty of space for all 3 of us. Our set up inside was 2 chairs, a table and the Outwell Richmond Kitchen complimented it well. The tinted windows work very well adding to privacy and keeping the sun out.
For us its too much work for just 2 nights so future trips will be at least 3 nights as it seems to much work for a weekend. We do plan on getting the extension and awning but this will only be used when away for 5 nights or more.
Our tent was one of the biggest ones on site so the Montana 6P is of a good size, I think anything bigger would limit you to which campsites you can use.
It was easy to take down however it took several attempts to roll it back in to its trolly bag.
Only things I did not like were:
Footprint was missing some pegs.
Doors are open at the bottom (they have velcro there) if you have the inner mesh doors rolled up, which allowed our 18 month old to do his 'Great Escape' 2 times. Therefore to be secure you need the mesh doors zipped up also.
Electricity cable entrance and cable ties should be on both sides.
Other then that its a very good posh looking tent.

Just got back from our first outing with our new montana 6p, we got our tent for £540 from camping world who price matched outdoor worlds 10% off deal, delivered within 2 days, great service guys, first impressions are very good, as other reviewers have commented, the 2 bags are pretty heavy and getting the tent back into its roller holdall is a mare, much prefer a big sack! erecting the tent is straightforward, used the cross camping method of pegging down the four corners then putting the main poles seemed to work ok but needed 2 people for the initial lift.
Once the tent was up pegged out fairly quickly , all the poles fitted and tensioned nicely, the Outwell wind stabiliser system is a bit fiddly especially when taking the tent down with cold wet fingers, seems to stop the tent flapping, very little movement in a strong sea breeze. Panoramic windows and front are great, they are all zip up which is great means they can be opened as much or as little as you want, one thing though, the tinting to the windows seems to slightly distort outside images, does seem to keep the tent a bit cooler, ventilation in the tent is very good with lots of closeable vents, headroom is brilliant and the living room is very spacious, as usual, its labelled a 6 berth tent but realistically 4 would be comfortable, also the dividing wall between bedrooms is quite see through! inner bedrooms sit and fit nicely well supported by the wave hanging points.
All in all a very good quality tent, no signs of any build problems and so far no leaks in a couple of heavy showers, next step to save up for the carpet and awning at £100 and £250 respectively they are not cheap, but with them it`ll be a great package, should be able to pitch the tent in less than an hour so makes it suitable for weekends as well as longer stays, very pleased so far

We LOVE this tent!
We use it to sleep 2 adults and 2 young children - we un-zip and roll back the partition in the sleeping compartment so we can all bunk down together - giving us more than enough room for a large double, one single airbed and a travel cot - plus room for the small mountain of clothes you need to take for a family holiday.
Since buying out Montanna 6 we have camped several times in often awful weather and have not suffered any significant leaks or issues in high winds, driving rain and thunder storms!
We also purchased the front extension which gives us more living/cooking space and the tent carpet for that little bit of luxury. This is well worth it as it keeps the tent much warmer in cold weather. We use the side extension as our 'en-suite' loo rather than another entrance - which is probably what it was designed for, but it works for us.
Even when we have camped without the front extension, we have always had enough room for the kitchen and table and kids toys.
It's relatively easy for 2 to pitch (once you have the hang of it - watch a couple of you tube videos of how to pitch before you go out for the first time). Getting it back in the bag afterwards is more of a challenge but we find leaving the doors un-zipped before rolling it makes it a bit easier.
It's a heavy tent to transport and the poles are in a separate bag so always check you've got these before you leave home but I think for it's size and versatility it is a great buy and I am hoping to get many many more holidays out of it yet.

The Monty is a great tent, we got one from the very first bunch to launch in this country – then tracking one down was hard work and we had to do a 3 hour round trip just to find somewhere with one left. Effort well spent though. We got 7 years of camping out of ours usually spending 3 weeks a year in it. We probably could have got another year out of it but the seams were starting to leak a little (even after resealing them a couple of times) and we had put a small rip in it as the fabric was beginning to weaken.
Obviously things have moved on since our model with the new “longer-life” fabrics, a porch instead of a rain-save door, electrics point, all-in-one bedroom with partition door instead of two separate bedrooms and many more improvements. Fundamentally though the tent is still the same, a really well thought out nice sized piece of kit. This tent has influenced the market massively, when we first pitched ours the market had a couple of green house-like tunnel tents and the Monty to offer, often we found we had one of the biggest tents on site. Not anymore! Walk up any site these days and you can see the Montana influence all over.
The flexibility you get with the Monty is great, the three doors mean you can pitch the tent any way round you feel, so if you want to sleep a certain way with a slope on site – or just want to point the windows toward a certain view – no problem! Just do it and use the most convenient door to come and go by. I have to say that this tent is easy to pitch and take down for two people. The vents, opening windows and no-seeums mesh on all doors and windows also give you a massive amount of choice when it comes to ventilation. Very hot days – get all the doors and windows open and the tent virtually becomes a canopy with bedrooms in it. When the weather takes a turn for the worse; having an SIG and closing all the vents, doors and windows really keeps the draught out. In our time in ours we have known it stand up to pretty strong winds blowing in and some torrential rain – or just days of rain, and it’s come through all without incident. Once we were at the low end of a campsite and a sudden torrential down pour caused a stream to form to drain the site – this ran under our tent! Thanks to the SIG (which has a HH of 10,000) we didn’t see any water inside.
We didn’t buy any of the extensions as we found the tent to be big enough at the time, though I have been in tents with these on and have been impressed with the amount of space they provide.
All in all I can really recommend this tent for the price point it is at. Have we replaced our Monty with another? Well.Err.No! The Monty did feature on the list but we have opted for the Outwell Tennessee 5, a clear descendent from that original Monty just a little bigger and with an interesting floor plan.

We chose this tent because my partner (all 6'5 of him) wanted a tent he could stand up in in the event we were confined to indoors in bad weather. He jinxed us. On first use it did amazingly well, howling gales and rain nonstop for five days/nights! I honestly thought we would take off in the night but the tent held. We bought the canopy to go with it but one of the pole snaps broke when we were taking it down. And due to the wind the roof poles had bent out of shape. On second use much better weather took two adults and three huskies, plenty of room. Because we don't use it frequently we tend to forget how it goes up but still manage to fathom it in 40 so minutes. Over all I'm really happy with it.

Fantastic family tent. We use it for 4 people not 6. I think squeezing 3 people in each bedroom would be a bit too cosy. Plenty of space. We have camped in many places. The Montana 6 still stands while other tents are blowing away or ripping in the wind. Very easy to put up. On one campsite we had to turn the tent round as we had pitched to wrong way. It took us 1 hour 15mins.

Used in Europe on month long holidays, hence the choice of a lovely airy tent. A week of torrential rain in the black forest had no effect, 5000mm hydrostatic head seems proven. Few points of discontent for a 5' 8'' owner-can't reach very top of front entrance zips from outside. Good point, on a reasonable day I can raise tent single handed while the family walk the dog. Start with the rear pegged but nothing else, then lean successive arches forward. Once 4 arches are up ease them forward and peg the rings. Works a treat!
Packing away is easy if you are prepared to lie on the tent to expel the air. I use a sturdy rubble sack to hold the metalwork as it will soon puncture the bag otherwise. Happy camping!

Wow where do I start. Rather mixed feelings sadly as this in design and use is a great tent ! However if you ever try to deal with Outwell you will end up bald. After 2 returned tents with staining and tears to fly screens and bags we were very well looked after by Go Outdoors head office who ordered us a new 2011 Montana 6 from Oase in Denmark ( the makers) With a week or so to go before a booked 10 day trip we waited for the replacement which Oase refused to send direct to us as they ' ONLY SUPPLY to retailers ' in their words. I was cc'd on all E Mails by Go so as to be kept in the loop with this replacement.
The day of delivery came 4 or 5 days before our trip .And I opened the box to see a 2010 Montana 6 without bedroom pod. Seems the guys that own this brand either cant read E Mails or don't know the difference between their products. Though they did confirm all the order details in the mails before sending goods and managed to not notice the tie on labels that stated 2010 ! So if the rating is for customer satisfaction in dealing with Oase then my score should read 0 out of 10.
However thanks to a sterling last minute effort by Go they found a replacement ' up North ' and sent it next day to my home. The tent still has a very few stains as does the Awning ( not great for a new product! ) but in use it was very roomy, well appointed and stood up to some early remnants of the American Atlantic winds. If it were to be improved there are points that let it down a little, firstly the posh colour coded pegs are great to admire but manage to bend even in quite soft grassy soil, about 40% are unusable after only one trip ! When it is windy the seal on the main tent door is not as good as it could be, why oh why make such an expensive , well appointed tent and then only place 3 small velcro patches along the bottom of the side zipping - full length door. The wind causes the door flap to lift in the gaps. They need to either make this like the Kampa Pendine doors with a higher step or add a strip of velcro along the base. The Zip up window blinds, with storage pockets below the windows to hold them when zipped down, are the nicest system I have used . But watch out for condensation from the windows running into pools in the pockets ! The storm door , though low for my 6 foot 3 inches, is a great idea when its blowing a hooley outside. This has an outer flap and an inner zipped-all-round door on the tent entry, thus allowing you to control the flow of rain and wind into the tent. Oh must add even with strongly wind driven rain it was dry all round !
All in all if Outwell can try to learn the basics of supporting their customers and quality control , address a few minor issues , this tent would be 10 out of 10.

We purchased our Montana 6 in August 2011, we upgraded from a Montana 4 which we have had for 5 years as we now have children and needed more space. We were unable to pitch the tent before going on holiday to Devon, so imagine our disappointment to find the tent had what looked like grease marks on it, and writing on the fabric under the air vent when we pitched for the first time.
We notified the company who had sold us the tent and they said they would replace it on our return. Unfortunately they could not replace the tent as they did not have any more Monty's in stock so they refunded our money in full.
We then went to another company and purchased another Montana 6. We got the tent home and decided to pitch it to make sure all was ok. On erecting the tent we put the first ring and pin into the pole and the tent ripped on the seam. Phoned the company and they said they would replace it as this should not have happened.
Got our third Montana home and pitched it to check. This time we found a hole in the large window on the front of the tent, and another hole on the side by the door! Not only that but the waterproof tape that covers the seams on the inside of the tent looked really shoddy. All had a very jagged cut and were coming unstuck. And once again more chalk marks under all of air vents.
Having invested in an extension, carpet and foot print for the Monty we feel absolutely gutted that this has happened to us, and are seriously considering selling everything and finding a different brand.
As we have owned an Outwell tent before and have a Sliding Canopy and a Windbreak we know that Outwell is a leading name in camping equipment. So what has gone wrong with their quality control or have we just been unlucky?
If anyone else has had problems with their 2011 Montana 6 we would love to hear your story.
Having had all these problems, we still loved the tent when we were away. The size and layout is excellent, and worked really well for us as a family.

Liked the look of the tent when viewed them on other campsites. This is a robust well made piece of camping equipment we are extremely happy with our purchase. The additional carpets keep you nice and cosy, there is lots of room for a growing family. We purchased out tent from Singletons of Preston for the great price of £450.00.
