As we're both new to camping, and camping will be our only holidays for the next few years, we did a lot of research before deciding we had to have the Monty. We were not disappointed. Have just returned from out first trip - 4 nights in Northumberland. Can't fault the tent at all. There is loads of space which was great for sitting in at night when it was chilly. If there had been no windows (like some other tents we looked at) we would have felt hemmed in, but it was lovely looking out over the great views. The side porch was extremely useful to keep the porta-loo in at night.

As there's just the two of us, and the two dogs, we opened out the bedroom into one huge room (had a double bed each!) and, as others have said, it really does feel like a 'home from home'. We were lucky to have great weather to both pitch up and then pack away. The tent is heavy, and took us about an hour to pitch, but it was our first time and I'm sure we'll improve(we have no garden so couldn't do a practise run first). We even packed it back in the bag, although my husband had to roll on it to get the air out first (thanks to advice given on this website!). My next aim is to able to pitch it solo.A bit ambitious perhaps given the weight of the poles.

Also bought the footprint, but the carpet was out of stock, but will certainly buy in the future. Overall, a great purchase.

Great tent, Very sturdy in wind & has never leaked even during a 14 hour continuous downpour!

Very roomy living area,You can get plenty of natural light into the tent if you open up the curtains & plenty of air as well if you open up the vents. We have purchased the carpet & footprint for the tent as well. The carpet does make a huge difference to the comfort factor in the tent

Downside

The aluminium poles on the side porch presses into the main tent putting pressure on the zip on the inner tent. I have cut 20mm off each end of this pole & it has reduced the pressure on the zip.

You do get a draft from the bottom of the front door & side door as they are secured by three pieces of velcro.

I do think it would be a squeeze to get three adults into each bedroom

It is also very hard getting the tent back into its holdall

We bought a Montana 6 after lots and lots of research. Watched the internet prices very carefully, then got GoOutdoors to price beat an internet price, so got it for £400.

The tent itself it superb- there's tons and tons of space, it's very light with plenty of windows and there's so much headroom I could still stand up wearing stilts. Everything seems to have been well thought out by those Outwell boffins in in everyday use the tent is excellent. The additional carpet makes it nice and cosy underfoot.

There's only 2 negative points - firstly, when camping in May, I found the tent a little draughty and cold at night. Secondly, lifting the steel poles into place takes some effort. The video on the Outwell website makes it look very very easy, but we struggled so much the first time we had to get another couple to help us! We've since unhooked the bedrooms so there is less weight to lift and so it's a little easier. Packing up is straightforward, but you have to squeeze every last bit of air out of the tent to roll it as tightly as possible to get it into the bag. The steel poles have their own bag. I would also invest in some metal pegs, as the plastic ones supplied bend as soon as they hit a stone.

Generally though, a great family tent.

Started camping again this year and realised our 2 man tent from 10 years ago was too small for us. So upgraded to the Montana 6, great spacious tent with a solid design and completely waterproof. The only challenge with this tent is putting it away and getting it into the tent bag, a very tight fit.

The best tent we've owned by far,we started with an Outwell family dome type tent, then on to a Vango(mistake) and back to the Montana 6.Plenty of room for 2 adults & 2 teenagers + large Labrador, very well made although the poles are a little heavy, room for a cooker, table chairs, plenty of windows, good ventilation,3 doors. The only downside is the boot space it takes up+ we've NEVER been able to get it all packed up in the one bag the poles go separately!

We bought this tent two years ago after checking out this website. We have 3 young children. We bought it with longer camps in mind. We bought the footprint, carpet and kids' room as well. It is certainly roomy and comfortable with the carpet. The footprint is essential otherwise you'll end up with mud all over your tent when rolling it up after a wet camp, and that is a real pain to clean off the roof(speaking from experience unfortunately). We recently had ours in the Alps - it was definitely out of its comfort zone! Most of the other campers at the site had 'Force 10' type canvas tents built to withstand the alpine storms. Ours didn't cope too badly despite a very heavy battering, although the balls of ice did rip holes in the 2 clear 'window' panels facing the storm. Other reviewers have suggested that the pegs that come with the tent are worth replacing with Delta pegs - having seen ours come out of the soft ground following wet weather I'm going to do that. Following a 12-day wet camp I found mildew on the inside of the tent when cleaning it up at home, clearly we need to take care to keep it better ventilated by opening all the vents and the doors too when possible. We felt the lack of a canopy on our last trip, and are not sure whether to try to get a canopy 2nd-hand from eBay as Outwell don't make them for our tent anymore, or whether to go for the Montana 6 front extension. I like our tent, although the downside of its size is the weight and bulk of it when transporting, and the fact that it's cumbersome and really tricky for one person to put up - that's me struggling to get it cleaned up and dry once we've come back from holiday and my husband's returned to work!

We bought this tent following a disastrous wet week in Cornwall last August resulting in our tent going in the bin! We were lucky enough to only pay 400 at Go Outdoors which also included the front awning. We've just come back from a week in windy, wet Norfolk but our Montana made us proud on it's first outing. You can barely tell it's windy when inside and there is loads of room for us - 2 adults, 2 children and an Airedale. We didn't take the awning but may do in future as I'm guessing from other reviews it would be ok to cook in when wet outside. We haven't quite mastered putting it up quickly yet despite watching the Youtube videos. How do they make it look so easy when the poles are so damn heavy to hold??! Definitely need more trips to practice! I would definitely recommend this tent.

We've just bought a Montana 6 tent for use on holiday this year. Can't fault it as a family tent, but please can anyone who's owned one explain to us about the non adjustable pegging/pin straps on the opposite side to the tent to the adjustable ones. We're not sure how the pegs should go through them, as there is a loop at the end of the strap and the strap is not the same as the other side.

Was relatively new to camping when we bought this tent last year.We bought a Coleman first and what a bad mistake.Snapped poles due to very high winds. So off to the camping exhibition to look for another one.Cant fault this tent for the room inside and the little added bonuses like mesh vents etc. Only fault I find as with other reviewers albeit a minor one is the door,we take our large pooch with us and as the door is not zipped at the bottom he tends to sneak under the door.Rectified by putting him in the bedroom with us. But apart from that can't fault this tent for sturdiness, space and staying power in winds. As with other reviewers took a bit a practice to put it up.Would like the canopy next.Hope to have a few more years with this tent.

This is a fabulous tent! Very spacious and well shaped. It is fairly easy to put up but I would recommend looking on You Tube for the video of the man putting it up and taking it down on his own - it is much easier than the Outwell instructions. We really struggled to get it back in the bag and this video shows a much better way. We bought the closed front extension to which makes it massive and is great for when you need to cook indoors. The handy porch at the side is great. If you are thinking of buying one - go for it! you won't regret it!
