We bought the Icarus 600 and canopy as a weekend tent, we owned an Outwell Hartford XXL and it was just too cumbersome for short breaks. After half term we reckoned we needed something smaller so we looked around and came up with the Icarus 600 or the Orchy. When we went to a tent exhibition we found both and reckoned the Icarus had less wasted space so we went with that.
It's easy to put up, not 12mins as Vango state tho, nearer 30 with the canopy and 2 people working. The main body can be up in 12 but pegging etc takes a bit of time, especially when you are like me and NEED to get all the pegs in a dead straight line! We are impressed with the quality bar one or 2 small things. The sleeping pod main connection point behind the roll down storage snapped, maybe due to overhyped kiddy winks, just a small repair with a needle and thread. It needs a bug mesh door on the main door. We had to keep the main door shut and only used teh side door with its mesh. With the canopy we didn't get any door flapping that some have reported,we did take stick on Velcro to combat it if we had though.
There was a little condensation and we had the vents open all the time. The zips and tensioning straps seem strong enough, as do all the guys and pegging points. We have added channel pegs for the main points as we have more faith in them that the supplied pin ones. We also used the footprint and used mushroom pegs for that as opposed to teh supplied pin pegs.
The canopy was very stable and even though we had no wind to speak of I'd be happy to leave it up in all but the strongest winds. It doubles the size of the tent and is larger than our old Outwell canopy. Just a shame we had the main door down all weekend to combat the lack of bug mesh as it would have made a whole lot of difference to have been able to use it as a living area rather than just cooking and storage.
We also picked up a Vango sun canopy for the side door but can't find a way to connect it that we are happy with yet, we'll try again.
All in all a good tent with a couple of small flaws that could be sorted very easily, especially if VANGO were to put a bug mesh on the main door.

This is our 1st tent, never been camping in our lives but for some reason we decided to give it a go, we were drawn to the 600 don't know why? Ours came with the footprint [165.00 all inc] which is really handy as it helps position the tent exactly where you want it. Didnt bother with the instructions [a man thing apparently] took around 20min 1st go and same to pack away. One extra thing I did buy with it was the vango tent roller bag which I can know fit almost, and I mean almost everything inside except the 4way picnic table. Really happy so far even though we're still getting to grips with it! We gave it a high mark as we don't know any different therefore we have nothing to compare so don't see the faults if any.

We recently invested in the Icarus 600 after extensive research on the internet (I love buying tents!), as our ‘main’ tent – a Khyham Longleat + annexe – is rather an undertaking for a 2 or 3 night stay. We have used it once so far, for a short trip to Tenby, and were very pleased with it. It exceeded our expectations as far as putting it up was concerned – it took us (2 adults) 10 minutes for the actual tent, plus a further 10 minutes to guy it out. However, I agree with some other comments that the ring and pin mechanism was challenging – as I was not able to manage it, but husband seemed to have no trouble.
It sleeps four comfortably in two compartments, but 6 (as advertised) would have to be very close friends indeed! Did not experience bad weather, so cannot comment on wind/rain performance – apart from a short rain shower – but do agree with comments about mesh doors. This is also my main gripe about our Khyham - only 1 of the 2 doors are mesh - although generally the ventilation on the Icarus is actually better than the Khyam.
The price is very, very good for the quality and finish of the tent, and we’ve now bought the canopy that we can use as a ‘kitchen’ in inclement weather, although I haven’t had the opportunity to actually put this up yet. All-in-all a fabulous ‘weekend tent’.

This is my first tent, and I took a long time deciding which tent to go for. Did I make the right decision. You bet, I love this tent.Used it for the first time last weekend, and it performed a dream easy to put up and packs away no problem, I managed to get tent and poles back in the bag no problem.
On the second night of our trip, we had heavy rain during the night, every one inside was bone dry and cosy, not a drop of water anywhere in the tent. And it was heavy rain outside.
Also had no problems with condensation, we kept the vents open all the time, there is a vent above the side window, a big vent on the back of the tent and one above the main front door.
We are a family of 3 and there was more than enough room in the tent, standing height throughout the tent was great even in the bedroom pods. We also used the footprint and we had the carpet, which I would recommend, brings a nice little bit of comfort to the tent.
I would not hesitate in recommending this tent to any one,and I promise you wont be disappointed with it. The only reason I give it a 9 and not 10 is because there is no bug mesh on the front door, only the side door, a shame because it really would be the complete tent with this addition.

Felt compelled to write a review as the ones others had left helped me so much.
Never been a fan of camping, everything just too difficult. However this tent changed a lot of that. For starters it is small and relatively light. It only has three poles and is easy to understand, despite this IMHO it pays to work out how to put it up before you camp.
The tent is spacious for four, though we slept five with the largest of the children sleeping in the main living space. I could not imaging sleeping six.
I'm 6'1' and could stand easily, though sleeping was a bit of a squash. The living has plenty of room to accomdate all the outdoor (table/chairs/cooking) as well as usual indoor gear.
Frustrating though was not having full putting-up/taking down instructions. And nothing telling us about the orange zipped cable entrance hidden to the right of the bedrooms, and the cable ties to hold the (er.) cable, and finally the hoop to hold the light - hidden behind the very handy pockets.
Some other nice touches like the spacers to hold open the vents.
Tips for putting up:
1. After rolling out and pulling everything into shape peg out each corner. This keeps everything from blowing away.
2. Put in the poles and put the ends of the poles in the metal pegs on one side only.
3. Unzip the front door. This is important because it lets the air into the space that will become the living area.
4. Put up the front part first, then middle then the back.
5. Peg out the guys.
6. Walk to pub! :)
The whole lot down to 30 mins after just 2 practices!
Taking down is pretty much the reverse. The main tip being to leave the front door open when putting down, this lets the living space air out.
Finally, getting it in the bag. No problem, honest, it's all in the folding.
1. Start folding in from front and from back in 1' increments (that's 30cm if you're a continental cousin). Sounds small but they get bigger by virtue of all the material.
2. When in one long flat sausage, make a crease halfway and fold in half. This allows you to roll from the middle and force all the air out via each end.
3. Start rolling with a piece no more than a hands length, then keep folding and forcing out the air.
4. Finally have the bag ready at the end and roll the whole thing into the bag - easy peasy (no honest, I was amazed, you will be too).
Next year I may even get a canopy.
Unbeliever99 (now believing a little more.)

We have not been camping for several years and after finding and checking our old tent it was obvious that a new one was required.
After looking at what must have been dozens of tents we eventually chose the Icarus range has our previous tent was a tunnel style. It was now just which one to choose, as we have 2 children 11,13 we chose the 600.
Whilst looking for the best price we came across the 600DLX, which can only be purchased from a shop called outdoor megastore.
It is based on the standard 600 but is 1.4m longer in the living area.
As the previous reviews have stated there are just a couple of minor problem. 1) The issue with the doors. 2) We struggled with the poles bending enough without the risk of breaking them.
We had 1 wet day and 3 sunny days and we had no problems with either weather.
We managed to get the tent into the bag first time.

This is our first family tent and we are all very happy with our choice. After a lot of web browsing and review reading we had decided on a Vango Icarus 500, but we changed to the 600 when we saw them pitched side by side at a retailers ground. The tent is easy to put up and take down. After seeing other people put up different tents and the amount of time and complexity I am glad we went for the Easy to pitch Icarus 600.
There is plenty of standing room in the tent(I am 6 foot and did not have to stoop.) The living space is ample as are the sleeping areas. I think it would be a bit cramp with six sleeping though. As it is just the 3 of us it is more than enough room. As with other comments about the front entrance not closing fully with the SIG we did not encounter any problems ours has a toggle fastener in the middle and using advise we also used some velcro on either side of this toggle to make it a snugger fit. There is a electric hook up entrance at the side for those who desire electric.
We also have the canopy for the front of the tent and this is a good investment because on warm days when it is raining you don't have to be shut up inside the tent you can leave the front open for ventilation. Also it make a good area for cooking making more space inside. Our tent has now endured rainy nights with no leaks! We are more than happy with our choice

Very pleased with our new Icarus 600 tent! Pitching is relatively quick and easy, although didn't do it in the 12 minutes suggested! Plenty of space for a family of 4, but doubt it would have room for 6.
Canopy was a marvellous addition in rain and sunshine, great for cooking area. Difficult getting tent back in bag, but not impossible.
Overall a great tent for weekends, but even debating taking it for our main holiday now as so pleased with it.

Having looked at the Icarus 400 / 500 last year, we waited and ordered a 600 for this year, complete with canopy etc as a smaller weekend tent to the sun valley 8 we have. Having used the 600 a few weeks ago in the hot weather and a week ago in the wind and rain; for a weekend tent, and of this size it is brilliant. Its not perfect but when it comes to value for money its spot on. I must say that for pitching and taking down it is a dream, I have not manages 12 minutes yet but I can set it up and move in, blow up the beds set everything else up and within the hour we are off down the pub. The canopy made a difference in the heavy rain we had, by getting rid of the issue as with all tents that the sloping doors will let water splash in when wet or raining. The canopy is also large enough to give you a great cooking, sheltered area.
The 600 for its packed size and speed of set up is A1,for our family of 4, with 2 large blow up beds side by side there was still plenty of room to the sides and in the middle, the living area was also ample, with a few chairs and table. I am no Specialist, but have managed to get the tent back in its bag with no problems and during all that cold wind and heavy rain the tent did not leak any water at all, and with the footprint and the carpet it was home from home.
The canopy was great, and stood up well to the wind, I did use my plastic pegs to hold it down, which I felt was better than the thin metal ones supplied, but it is like a kite and as it says on the label it is not meant to be used during strong winds.
The only little gripes are: 1) The poles are a bit fiddly trying to fed then through the tent sleeves, due to weak elastic and the guy ropes in the sleeves. 2) The front door lower edge needs the Velcro modification that many have mentioned to seal that lower edge and assist the storm skirt.
Two little jobs above to sort out and that's it, a cracking little or should I say massive tent for week/weekends. No wonder the Icarus flew of the shelves last year and gets some good reviews.

This was out first camping trip with the Icarus 600 and it took longer than the 12 minutes to pitch it. We took our time putting it together and we have the footprint sun canopy as well. The tent is quite spacious and we had enough room for the 4 of us. 2 Adults and 2 Children aged 9 and 7. It would be a bit tight for 6 people in this tent as there was only enough room for our airbeds in the sleeping pods. The canopy was great for cooking under and we are glad we purchased this.
We managed to get the tent back into the bag which I didn't think would happen.
The doors don't zip all the way across the bottom, there is toggle which connects the door to the SIG but this wasn't a problem.
I just wish that Vango had put a mesh door on the front door as they have on the side.
Overall this is a good tent for the price and an ideal tent for a young family or couple wanting an easy and quick tent to erect.

Manufacturer's Description
The Vango Icarus 600 is a new size being introduced into the highly popular range for the 2010 season. The Icarus range is likely to prove even more popular in 2010 due to the fantastically simple 'as-one' easy to pitch system and the simple 3-pole no hassle construction will make it the most ideal of weekend tents.
The tent frame is constructed using Powerflex fiberglass poles, a Protex 2000 Polyester flysheet (2000mm hydrostatic head protection) and as is the norm these days, the groundsheet is fully sewn-in to keep out unwanted pests and draughts.
The other key features of the tent include, as-one pitching, single 6-berth sleeping compartment (with roll back divider), TBS tension band system for extra strengthening in adverse weather, 10,000mm HH internal groundsheet, side 'J' door with mesh double door, heavy duty continuous poles sleeves, storm skirts, pelmet with storage pockets, cable entry point, front door mesh vent, reflective webbing, (helps aliens encounter you) 'Crystal Clear' windows (with internal covers), breathable fabric inner tent, parallel zipped front door can be used as a sun sun porch (porch poles not provided).
