I picked up one of the 2007 tents, foot print and carpet at the end of the last season for a very good price from Yeoman’s Outdoors and I have been very happy with it.

On the plus side it is large enough for four adults to sit at a table in the living area and still have room to move around. I like that the sleeping pods are separate and because it's also a light and airy tent. It's easy to pitch and stands up well to high winds, no poles broken. Has no leaks despite some very heavy rain over the last trip.

On the downside, it needs a large pitch size that not all campsites can accommodate, the 2007 version I have is pitched inner first, which gets wet if pitching in the rain and it attracts bugs as they find their way between the fly and inner. Bugs can't get in, providing that the inner windows and skylights aren't open and the door is closed. Which brings me to my next point, there is no netting so you can have the door and windows open and still keep the bugs out.

The 2008 tent looks great but when I need another tent, I'll look at a Monty 6 before considering another Hartford.

The tent has been amazing. We have had the most awful weather for two summer holidays in Scotland and the tent stayed totally dry. It is huge the kids have a room each and there is loads of space in the living room. We have the porch but were unable to use it last summer as it would have meant us causing a road block (smaller pitches). Cant recommend it enough though it's not the quickest to erect. We've had our fair share of tents over the years but this is the best and I thought nothing would beat our old voluminous Relum Florida.

This will be our fourth year family camping in the Hartford XL and it's great. There is loads of space and we like the SIG especially now we have a pesky puppy that camps with us! We can put it up easily usually in about an hour from start to finish. We initially bought the 2005 model which had fully opening windows but due to a fault we had it replaced and ended up with the 2004 model which has sealed outer windows. Our only gripes with this tent are the bedroom pods which are low and tend to be a bit saggy, particularly the middle one that incorporates the 'back door' and the sloping porch door. This seems to be a very common feature on tents but annoys us as it is difficult to reach down to find the zip and results in a load of water down the back of your neck if the door happens to be wet when you open it. We were a bit worried by the size but have never been refused a pitch or asked to pay extra-we always ring the site we want to stay on and specifically tell them the size when we book. All in all a great tent. I'm interested to see how the new model goes up and whether the bedrooms are improved.

I was torn between giving this 6 or 7 out of 10. To be honest the tent is great once up and nicely pegged down. We've got the canopy extention, footprint and carpet- which all work well too. The tent is spacious, light and keeps dry, and for the price is really good value.
Where it falls short however is the strength of the poles/ design. In 1 holiday and 1 pitching in our backgarden we have suffered 4 poles snapping. This was in normal conditions and we followed the instructions to the letter. The problem is with the weight of the tent and the weakness of the poles when erecting it. It is quite difficult to guide all the poles in intially and invaribly this results in some bending under the weight of others and then giving way under the pressure- this is even with another adult holding the tent up in the middle. Maybe this has been corrected in the new model, as I've noticed that the poles are different or perhaps it is a standard fault with this style of tent and that ultimately only steel poles are made to take this kind of strain.
Anyway, having had to spend an extra £65 on spare poles results in me giving the Hartford XL 6/10.

What a great tent, seen others but overall none come close. Plenty of room, sewn in groundsheet to keep bugs/wet out. Been out in big downpours when others are going home and not a drop of water inside. As in other review the sleeping pods let it down a little as they could do with being a bit tighter and a cover over the inner tent vents for the chilly nights.Used ours for 3/4 years and would only replace when totally unrepairable if ever that would happen.

We have owned our Outwell Hatford XL now for 3/4 years, and really struggle to fault it. We have always found it easy to put up(about an hour start to completely finish), although husband does say that there is alot of pegs to peg out. It has never leaked on us and we have camped it some horrendous rain. We nornally use the extention porch to, which is a great addition for this tent. It is a large tent so this may limit you on pitches, and we always mention size when booking. There is a adequate porch for shoes etc. Then a large living area, which is great for when the weather is bad and the kids need to stuck inside. Three bedrooms, one of which we use for storage, one small downside is that the bedrooms can be a bit saggy and you cant stand up in them (something I think they have improved with the latest model, 2008). At night when all zipped up it does feel very cosy inside due to being fully sewn in. We always use a self-made groundsheet to keep the under tent clean, but I think you can now buy them ready made (couldnt when we first brought this tent). When the weather is hot, with our model you can fully open all the windows to let air through (which I dont think you can do with some models) which does help. Overall a great family tent with, in our opinion, only a few small minor faults.
