We bought this tent last year. It's our 1st proper tent.Did a lot of research and decided to go for the Montana 6 on the back of all the good reviews on this site.

Plenty of room for 2 adults and our 2 children, especially with the awning up.

The carpet makes for a more comfortable time.

We spent 2 weeks last summer in Devon and Cornwall and the tent was certainly tested to the full!Have never known wind and rain like it! The only problem we had was down at Gwithian in Cornwall. Pitched the tent in a gale then went for lunch. When we got back had a nice patch of water underneath the front window! The seam under the window had split slightly.I guess I had tensioned the guy ropes too much. A bit of clear duck tape and it was as good as new.

The winds were being measured at 60-65mph gusts and we watched as about 4 tents were literally blown apart. The nice strong poles in our tent hardly moved.

We are off to France this year so hopefully will get some better weather.

Agree with some of the others on this site about the amount of room the tent and awning take up in the car. Also the tent is so big I feel we have to take the kitchen sink to fill it up.

Would recommend this tent to anybody.

We recently bought the 2011 Montana 6 and a 2011 front awning to replace our Vango Vista 800 that served so well last season. Although we've only had one outing so far in the Montana so far it was well tested through very high winds and driving rain near Buxton last week. We paid £560 total for the 2011 tent and the 2011 awning together with another £89 for the carpet.

The biggest difference, when compared to the tunnel type tent such as the Vango, is the average height of the tent. I'm 6'2' and the Montana allows me to walk in and out of the tent, and it's bedrooms, without ducking. The tent also has more usable headroom which for me means more usable floor space.

The total window area is also huge by comparison meaning that on wet and windy days the tent still offers good views outside whilst being shut up tight. The window blinds zip up from the bottom rather than the top which allows the window area to be adjusted brilliantly rather being just 'open or closed'

The storm porch on the side is quite small however if used as intended (ie used as an entrance instead of a storage area.) serves it's purpose allowing the inside of the tent to stay perfectly dry when getting in or out on wet days.

The tent has a few nice touches such a hook and ties on the ceiling which allows an electric awning type light to be used whilst keeping the cable neatly fixed along the frame. Numerous vent and door options provide many ventilation options and others, whilst being nothing unique, such as a cable entry point, storage pockets, low level windows in the bedrooms and mesh doors provide a lot of utility.

Pitching the tent for the first time was no more complicated that the Vango however we did follow the alternative way to pitch it rather than follow Outwells directions. The alternative method does away with heavy lifting and I'd recommend a youtube search for the videos that show this. The awning is another 20 minutes or so pitching time on top and in total it probably took us 50 minutes to get both up with a bit more time after that spent pegging and guying. The inners are all pre-attached though which saves a little time.

Whilst the Vango stood up to some strong winds during the time it did bend and flex quite alarmingly at times as the fibreglass poles flexed as intended. On the other hand, the Outwell simply didn't move at all as all of the force is absorbed by the guy ropes attached firmly to the steel poles which move but not much. I'm not sure about earlier versions however the Montana 6 2011 has a system that attaches the the guy ropes to the poles using velcro fasteners which makes the tent feel very solid indeed in the wind. Outwell claim (and have it printed on the side of the tent) that it will now stand up to a Force 10 gale and whilst I'm sure it will, I'd rather not find out if I'm honest.

The awning is a fabulous addition which effectively doubles the living area and has allowed us to create separate spaces with the tent itself becoming a large 'living room' with not much more than carpet and table and chairs in. The awning stores everything else easily.

What would we change?

The thin top storm porch poles that threads through the canopy top are still too long and very hard to locate in the retaining pins. Simply solved by cutting 10mm off each end however it should be unnecessary to have to do this.

Not so much the tent as the carpet, which needs some kind of fastening system as it tends to slide and gather slightly over time. A toggle or velcro fixing would make all the difference.

Other than to say that I'd highly recommend this tent that's it really. We did look at several other tents including the Maritsa, Sprayway and even considered waiting for the new Vango Airbeam tents however we are happy that for us it's definitely the right choice and worth every penny.

I've scored it 9/10 purely because it hasn't yet proved itself over time, I'm sure in a few trips time I'd upgrade the score to a 10 however the real test of the tent is yet to come with use!

We owned a Montana for one two years, and never really got on with it, it must be just us as there everywhere!.The sloping front was an issue, it seems to waste so much space, condensation was also a major factor, but the main problem was putting it up, my wife really struggled to drag it up once the poles were threaded through, she would hold one side and I had the other, we now have a bear lake and as the groundsheet is removable its so much easier.

Wonderful tent. I used it first time in the Easter holidays, when nights where quite chilly, and SIG and the quality of the tent together with the carpet made us feel comfy despite temperature. We left the vents partly open and had no condensation in the morning! In daytime, when we had sunshine and summer temperatures, we appreciated the good ventilation, too. I am glad I ordered the 2010 model - mainly because it was cheaper then the 2011 one, but it also has the smaller windows which can be opened for extra ventilation and even have the option of using a mesh panel. The new model has panorama windows, but they can't be opened.

I can pitch the Montana with the help of one child in about 1 hour including pegging out, and considering I have a walking disability I think this is not bad for a tent this size! It is heavy, but the tent comes in a smart trolley. I could have whished for a trolley solution for the bag with the tent poles too, I cannot carry it, and my children have to stick my cruches through the handle of the bag and carry it between them.

I did a test pich in very windy conditions, it was poorly pitched (my fault) and flapping a lot, but still standing strong.

The only down, and the reason that I don't give it 10 out of 10, is the doors. All the walls are sloping, which means that there is not one door that will not let in the rain when opened. The outer rainporch door is sloping, too, and makes the use of the groundsheet there meaningless. We use the rain porch for the loo and for storage of bits and pieces, so we had to buy the canopy (sadly now discontinued) to protect the main door. The sloping wall means you have to crouch on the ground to open the zippers on the main door. At least the 2010 model has still not solved the problem with the gap between door and SIG, that occurs when the mesh door is not used. The velcro on SIG and door is not very practical and lost its grip in the strong wind we had at our test pitch.

Apart from this I am very content. Exceptional quality, lots of small features - like the small windows close to the ground in the sleeping pods.

Excellent tent. Very roomy and easy to erect. Only problem is, if the side porch pole breaks, (like mine has), you cannot obtain a replacement from anywhere. Very poor aftersales from Oase, who make the Outwell tents. Has put me off buying another Outwell, even though they are supposed to be the best!

Great tent, great design easy to put up,I have an extension and canopy doubles the space allows you to be outside even when raining. I use the side entrance for the portaloo. Would recommend the footprint, keeps tent clean under groundsheet and the carpet gives it a warm feel. Top it off with a couple of matching windbreaks for total privacy. There is no downside to this rig its well worth the money.

This is a great tent. Bought it recently second hand and used it for the first time last weekend.

No problems putting it up (after watching v good vids on You Tube and a trial run on local playing field) and really impressed how much thought has been put into the design, lots of really useful features.

I was concerned that camping for a weekend (our first time with our 2 children, aged 1 and 3) might just be too ambitious and we'd spend too much time putting up/taking down the tent. Not a problem at all though thankfully and I'm sure we'll be away for many more weekends.

Lots of space in the living area for the kids to play, too.

One of the things that stood out for me before buying was the fact that the roof of the tent is white so the light coming in is not blue or green as in a lot of other tents. This really gives the sense of space and airiness.

Would recommend to anyone looking for a family tent with room to move around.

Wow. Great tent. Bought ours second hand. Used it for the first time for a two night stay. Lots of room in the living area, great bedroom space, we used two single camp beds side by side and had just enough room to get in and out. Double airbed in the other for the kids with plenty of room to get around. Love the quality and attention to detail on this tent. We also have the canopy which gives that extra outdoor shelter. Easy to put the tent up and take down, can't wait to use it again.

We love our tent! There is plenty of room for 2 of us, and our dogs who we always take on holiday with us. Also we arrange holidays with friends so we can play board games and the Montana gives plenty of room for at least 4 adults and 4 dogs to live, cook and relax in when the weather doesn't tempt us outside. Makes for great holidays with everything you possibly need for comfort home from home.

Well, after 6 years of family camping we feel we have finally found our dream tent! This tent has everything we wanted, fairly easy to put up, especially after a few times getting used to it. Lovely large living area and generous bedroom space. It feels very light and airy when all the curtains are open. The small side porch is very useful for storage or the port-a-loo, if using the other doors.

It is completely sewn in, which is very reassuring when we are camping with our dog, no flaps he could crawl out from! The tent feels very high quality.

We have camped in everything the British weather can throw at us, torrential rain, gale force winds, and even some sunshine and it has stood up to it all without a drop coming in.

I can not think of any faults, and would highly recommend this tent for a family of four, like us!
