4 Reviews of the Ambience Peridot Air

By: Man on the Move  Reason: I own(ed) one  Made in: 2013   Rating:

I came across this tent by accident and found it piqued my interest to the extent that I then checked this website for reviews.

Having found it had rated a 10/10 from all previous owners, I thought I'd see if there were any available on-line and was pleasantly surprised to find someone selling a little used example on Gumtree for £35.

At this price, I wasn't going to quibble and having then bought it, I sort a suitable double action manual stirrup pump to inflate the tent as the original was not included in the sale.

A quick search on the internet showed Halfords were selling a 2 litre version for £7 which I purchased, but to be honest I found using it to be just too much hard work, so I took the decision to push the boat out and buy a Vango Electric Airbeam Pump for £60. My rationale being, I planned on using the tent on an upcoming motorcycle tour of Scotland, which meant pitching and striking camp on a daily basis and no way was I prepared to use a manual pump throughout such a tour. It would have been easier to take my Robens Voyager 3EX.

As it transpired, the Ambience proved to be an excellent tent and stood up well to the weather extremes of sub-zero temperatures and very strong winds found in The Highlands during May 2015. Once the air bladder Boston valves were readied and the pump was attached, the tent was erected within 4 minutes to 8psi (which seemed to be the ideal pressure) and only then required the guys to be set to complete the pitch.

Incidentally, the pump proved to be both efficient and pretty quiet in use and I'd have no reservation in recommending it to others looking for an easy way to inflate their air tube tents.

I found no real evidence of usage of the tent which I took as testament to its quality as much as to the care of its previous owner.

The tent provides good headroom and a generous amount of space for it's designated occupancy of 3 people, so positively agoraphobic for one. I particularly like the fact a hanging ring is included at the peak of the tent to which a lantern can be attached. My choice being a Luci Outdoor Inflatable Solar Lantern

I also found in use, there was no evidence of condensation build-up (which had been a bit of a disappointment with my Robens Voyager 3EX).

The front vestibule area was smaller than the one in my Robens, although still just about adequate for my wet biking gear, plus the entrance panel has the advantage of unzipping on both sides, thereby providing a virtual front awning when used with a couple of extra poles.

The only downside I found on tour was that the tent and pump took up a lot of the available luggage space and consequently in retrospect, I couldn't recommend it for anyone contemplating its use for motorcycle touring, although it would be my first choice if travelling by car.

With a little effort, the tent would fold and compress sufficiently to fit in a 30 litre hard pannier, but I wouldn't have wanted to do this on a regular basis as I don't know what stresses it placed on the air bladders. Better to pack it in its original and very good quality carrying bag.

In addition, the pump plus associated pipework and extension power cable also took up a fair proportion of the available space in the other pannier.

Even though I've spent a total of £102 on this package, I still believe I got a great deal as the Ambience Peridot has proved to be a really top quality product.

I owned one of these many years ago, but it was borrowed by a friend, and I never saw it again! I have come out on business to the far east to a tent factory and have come across the original design for this tent from Hong Kong from years ago.Needless to say I am having one made to my specs as we speak!

I've had my air tent for a good few years and it is amazing how it can withstand the foul weather. Because there are no poles to snap, it just bounces back into shape! The tent its self is very well made and it is a great shame that the company doesn't manufacture them any more. There are certainly no quality control issues with this model!

I have owned this tent for nearly 4 years now, I take it to every festival and camping trip and it has never failed on us. Everybody stares when we bring out an inflatable tent as it's something that is not very common, but they are always surprised as to how good it actually is. I think inflatable tents is the way forward as it literally takes 2 minutes to set up. Its perfect for all weather.
