3 Reviews of the Asilo Plus 9
By: Thebigbairdy Reason: I own(ed) one Made in: 2004 Rating:
I have owned this tent for over a decade now and we still annually use it for our week long camping trip. The tent has lasted/is still lasting extremely well with only minor repairs being needed (usually due to human error) and maybe one or two of the smaller poles needing replaced due to extreme weather. It's an ideal tent for groups as the main dome allows us all to socialise with a bit of space no matter what the weather outside.
Erecting the tent is two person job minimum (Over the years a standard procedure has been worked out!). 9 colour coded poles of 3 different thicknesses are threaded through the outer fly and 3 quick release straps cross over the centre of the dome area to ensure the correct shape/spacing/tension. The fly has two entrance points and 5 window panels in total (2 panels on each side of the door with privacy curtains and 1 panel of the remaining 'solid' wall of the main dome with an outside privacy fly). It also has ventilation points at the top of the main dome, above the solid wall window panel and at the end of the areas for the sleeping 'pods'. The three pods are self contained units with bathtub style groundsheets sewn in. They have privacy screen and insect mesh doors along with a corresponding air vent to the outer fly. These pods clip into the external fly via a number of toggles at both ends and at the corners. There is also a separate tarp style ground sheet for the main dome area meaning that you can happily move around the tent while keeping your feet dry and clean. This also means that if mucky boots enter, the sheet can be easily washed and pulled out into the sun to dry then put back in.
The tent is surprisingly tough in rough weather but when gales hit it can be a bit nerve racking as it's large size means it can be caught by swirling winds if your out in the wide open. Provided you pitch it wisely and use the numerous guy lines correctly you should be fine. I'm a huge fan of this tent, as are all my friends who regularly come along each year. It often been the envy of people on the campsite - see my uploaded photos and you'll see why. I will be sad when it finally gives up. But no sign of it happening too soon!

I recently purchased our Aztec Asilo 9 man tent not realising the sheer size of it. Its a dome shaped middle with 3 bedroom compartments, its a very big tent but quite easy to put up. All poles colour coded and as long as you have someone tall standing in the middle supporting it it goes up easily. Brilliant family tent

My family and I have used this tent 3 times, during an Easter break and then in August each year. It has sustained some very heavy rain and kept us very dry. Although the main living area is a standard ground sheet (a little difficult for the novice to lay correctly), the sleeping areas have a waterproof ground sheet sewn in to an inner. Even when we found our sleeping area in a deep puddle after a night of heavy rain we remained dry. The whole tent is spacious and easy to set up but it is a small team effort to erect.
