2 Reviews of the Duro Plus Mountain

In the past, I've been in the position where I have had to escape from my previous tent due to heavy rain or I have been kept awake half the night worried that I'm going to end up in the next field by the wind with me inside the tent! So I did bit of research and bought this tent early in 2009 because it looked like good value for money (£145 new off ebay) when comparing the specification and price against other brands on the market. I'm pleased to say that generally I have not been disappointed. The tent is very stable in the wind and the 5,000HH flysheet keeps you nice and dry from the rain. I camped in September at over 500m in the Lakes and would say the only down side is the tent's weight of 5.45Kg is too much to carry on your own in a rucksack, BUT. It is fine if you split it between 2 or 3 people. That's the only reason I have marked it at 8. If it was lighter I would have scored it higher. If you want it for use from the back of the car, then it's great. If you're backpacking, make sure somebody else is there to share the load.

Bought this tent on ebay brand new from a company in Halifax for £107.00 including postage, and I couldn't believe how good the tent was for the price. First I pitched it in the garden and was impressed with the magnetic poles that click together when laid out and given a quick flick of the wrist. I bought this tent is it is a 4 season tent and I wanted to camp earlier in the year. Also because it has a flysheet hydrostatic head of 5000 which is more than adequate for the British weather. It takes only 10/15 mins to put up and peg out at the most. I now use this tent to tour around and it has stood up throughout strong coastal winds that have flattened others the same size and heavy rain that lasted 4 days. The tent has the look of a quality tent and I like the bright orange colour which helps to make it stick out from the crowd. My only gripe is on the description it states 3 person 4 at a push. I would say 2 person 3 at a push if you don't want to be on top of each other. I will be looking again at the aztec range of tents when I eventually require a new one.

Manufacturer's Description

The Duro Plus has received some notable write-ups since it was revealed to the market place. Constructed using 40D Diamond Ripstop fabric and T6 Alloy Poles Aztec has created a durable and reliable tent. Designed for 3 people (4 at a push), the Duro Plus is ideal for group use or extended trekking trips, giving great refuge from those mountain elements. Pitched flysheet first or as one, the aerodynamic profile and 7001 T6-alloy poles of the Duro makes it incredibly resilient. The flysheet is constructed using 210T PU coated Diamond Ripstop nylon with taped seams, giving 5000mm of hydrostatic head protection. The groundsheet is 190T PU coated nylon again with 5000mm hydrostatic head; the inner tent is breathable nylon. Continuous poles sleeves, colour coded poles, alloy pegs and two entrance doors completes the line-up of features.
