3 Reviews of the 5m Deluxe

Having had a cabanon pyramid for many years and used in all weathers I tried a nylon tent and although quick drying and lightweight was no comparison so decided to go for a 5 meter bell tent.
As we go camping all year we have a K P Stoves wood burner which is great .
The downside to this tent is the weight , I have a shoulder problem and cannot lift it alone, but once out of the car and on the ground it only takes 10 mins to put up and maybe 1/2 hour tops with the wood burner going, carpet and chairs in place and with the bed inflated.
As we have a high airbed we do not have the pod sections, also with just two adults we prefer the extra space to move around.
We have just returned from a trip with heavy rain but once again no leaks in the tent.

Having started with a nylon tent, moved to a canvas steel poled tent and then to the Bell Tent I can honestly say that this is the best purchase that we have ever made. I am a petite lady, 5' 3' and I can put this up on my own in 20 minutes it is that simple. We love the little extra touches such as the candle chandelier accessory that also helps to add a bit of warmth to the tent on a cool evening. We decided not to purchase a separate bedroom as we liked the open plan space that this tent gave us.
Three years on and many many camping trips later and it still looks and performs as good as the day we got it. Would highly recommend.

Bought Jan 2011 and used for three trips so far this year. Also will camp in Lake District end of October.
Having owned a family sized frame tent and dome tent in the past I wanted something simpler/quicker to put up. I also wanted a tent I could put up on my own should I need to. I decided on the sewn in groundsheet version primarily for ease and speed of setting up.
I had a practice set up at home on the lawn and managed to set up and peg out in about 40mins on my own. The SiG helped keep everything in perfect shape with no twisted or sagging side walls. First trip out was to lake Bala , North Wales in Feb for 4 nights. Campsite was a mud bath, torrential rain and quite blustery. Had my 16yr son with me and we managed to set everything up in about 60mins but this also included setting up a wood burning stove (bought separatly from KP Stoves). Tent looked emaculate with all panels so evenly tensioned they made the tent look like it had been crafted from a solid piece of wood! Tent was very stable in quite gusty winds and we found guys need regulary re-tensioning as the canvas stretched a little. Tent is really nice to live in. Natural canvas lets in plenty of daylight and smells fantastic. Shows up spots of mud and occasional specks of soot from the stove flue though. SiG removes all unwanted drafts and the four wall windows/vents allow for controlled ventilation when required. Tent warms up quickly with stove or when using gas hob. I'd say that this tent would be suitable for two adults and two children. The single open space is good for 'family bonding' but not privacy! Central pole means that everything has to be arranged around it. The tent is very well made but very heavy. I think it would be too big to fit in a family car. You would need a trailer or van! The canvas and simplicity of the bell tent make it feel more wholesome somehow - back to nature camping!
All in all, best tent I've owned. I am on the lookout for a canvas porch as this would improve functionality loads. Something like the Totuga Tents porch but at £160 + carriage a bit more than I want to pay!

Manufacturer's Description
With a heavy-duty groundsheet that comes up 3 inches all the way round to stop all but the worst floods.
The difference between the 5 metre Standard and the 5 metre Deluxe is that you get the added waterproof resistance of the groundsheet being permanently connected to the tent walls, however you do lose the ability to roll the sides up on hot days. The Deluxe groundsheet is also a lot thicker (PVC 540g/m²) and heavier (the Deluxe weighs 8.5kg more than the Standard). If you look at the picture below you can see way the groundsheet attaches to the walls.
We seriously recommend that you have a good think about how you are going to use your Bell Tent and ask yourself if it's really necessary to spend the extra money on the Deluxe? Remember that one of the unique selling points of a Bell Tent is to be able to raise the sides and let the breeze through on a hot day and you can't do that with a Deluxe tent.
If you are planning on using the tent in really wet conditions go for the Deluxe, otherwise consider the cheaper option!
